News / Will PiS be happy if AfD wins elections in Germany? [1440]

Germany faces many of the same economic challenges as the US: fear of continued outsourcing,
problems with migrants underbidding the native-born workforce, environmental issues.

Off-Topic / Is Islam a threat to western society? [167]

@Korvinus & Rich,
I am simply trying to show how often a double standard exists when
comparing one group with another!

While Islamic extremism surely can be a hostile force, Fundamentalist Christianity,
for that matter ultra orthodox Judaism, can also be a danger, as can any extremist ideology.
No school of thought has a monopoly on bigotry,

News / Building regional alliance to stabilize Eastern Europe. [236]

@Crow, it was Serbian nationalism in the figure of one Gavrilo Princip
(after whom many high schools are proudly named) who unleashed the
First World War, later paving the way for German expansionism under Hitler
aka the Second World War.., arising embittered and emboldened from their
defeat during WWI.

@Milo, right as rain!

Off-Topic / Is Islam a threat to western society? [167]

While EXTREMIST Islam most certainly is a threat to the West (much less
to more moderate, free-thinking Muslim nations, such as Turkey until Erdogan!),
we must not forget that the Christian Crusades were no less brutal in their own
way, violently proselytizing so-called "heathen" non-Christians, including Jews along
with followers of Islam.

History / What made Poland into the country it is today? [62]

I knew 966 is a historical date, I simply forgot which, apologies!
@Milo, do tell what mind-altering drugs you're obviously on when
you read these posts. Maybe I could take someLOL

History / What made Poland into the country it is today? [62]

We seem to be missing the point here.

Had Rich mentioned the founding of what is today Poland by Leszek and Mieczko round about 966 AD, then there'd have been
room for discussion. However, he didn't make his intentions clear, at any rate not to me.

As far as my being Jewish and the Destruction of the Temple, I fail to see what possible relation this
has to the present discussion. I never mentioned a historical date in any of my posts.

History / What made Poland into the country it is today? [62]

Not unless Rich here wants to be the comic.

Unless he's referring to the birth of the Polish nation,
1966 was the beginning of the mass exodus of Poles
to America under Gomulka, many of them Jews.

966?? Wow! That's even before the Norman Conquest LOL
You meant 1966, of course:-)

Oh, did you have a chance to read my private message I sent you the other day?

Language / Question about grammar books [9]

Sadowska is nearly as comprehensive as Brooks published by Mouton in the late 80s.

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

Is it necessarily the entire fault of those from terribly underdeveloped,
emerging nations in Africa, Bangladesh etc. to desire life in countries
such as Poland, Sweden, The Netherlands or Germany, with bustling
economies, gorgeous women, all the trappings of social prosperity??

Cut 'em some slack, for goodness sake!

Food / What Polish foods do foreigners generally not take to? [139]

'Guess it all depends once again on the foreigner. Me? I can
digest just about anything in whichever country I've either visited or
lived in for more than two or so months.

Certain Polish seafood dishes I found an acquired taste, I must admit!
However, I can honestly say that there is no Polish food I haven't
thoroughly enjoyed when I got used to it:-)

Polonia / Elon Musk tells Germans to "move on"! [247]

NO journal is completely "objective"! There's always and always will be biased reporting, that's only human,
although formerly the NYT tended to avoid such more than currently.

Polonia / Elon Musk tells Germans to "move on"! [247]

It once was, Johnny, when "Punch" Sulzberger was the Editor-in-Chief
and Theodore Bernstein did all the prootreading.

There was always Bill Safire's column:-)

Polonia / Elon Musk tells Germans to "move on"! [247]

I understand he isn't officially a US citizen,
perhaps a dual South African, although here again
a double standard!

Even the late John McCain was bad mouthed by
our press for not being born on American soil,
although he WAS on US territorial waters:-)

The overarching point here is that Musk is
charged with "trimming the fat" of so-called
no-show civil service jobs, right?

What about his own job, a lazy desk spot
with an inflated salary which doesn't have to
depend on supporting a wife and family.

And this is why certain folks go off the deep
end and start ranting or shooting.

Language / Polish vs English tongue twisters [45]

"Theophilis Thistle, the successful thistle sifter after sifting
a thread of unsifted thistles through the thick of his thumb.
Success to the successful thistle sifter!"

If that doesn't give Poles a run for their money, nothing will.LOL
