Life / Boys acting and dressing feminine, girls acting and dressing masculine - transgender teens in Poland [272]

Tatoo though is a separate issue! This falls under civil rights discrimination law
which allows for someone to dress as they wish so long as said attire is not
offensive to anyone on the basis of religious, ethnic or social background.

Here in the US, an employer can find themselves in hot water if they fire an
employee based upon arbitrary considerations of either "inappropriate" dress,
even physical appearance.

Right in my state, the state of New Jersey, as of 1990, a person's body odor
was not deemed legal grounds for removal from a public place.

Indeed, Alien. This was during the 1930's, therefore no longer applicable.

Such a sign is clearly racist and ought to be removed post haste!!!

Life / Jewish culture in today`s Poland [158]

@Rich, it's the only reason which makes any sort of logical or rational sense!
No human being, that is, normal sentient being, desires the hatred and emnity
of other human beings. If that particular group suffers such hatred, then common
intelligence therefore dictates that the answer to this lies elsewhere, that is, in the
circumstances rather with the Jews in this case.

Life / Jewish culture in today`s Poland [158]

@Rich, the Jews were hated because they refused en masse to convert to any of the local
religions, above all, to Christianity! This is the flat truth and has dogged even the most assimilated
until the present.

Clearly there are deviants in every facet of life.
There are tragically Jewish non-Holocaust survivors who've lied about
their past for either monetary gain or simply attention.

Off topic perhaps, but comparing Jewish camp victims and such with Kapos
and lumping them together with self-hating Jews as many have done, is bad
history, bad theory, and empirical nonsense!

Jewish Ghetto police were FORCED into turning against their own at the risk of their
lives, scarcely a thought out, conscious decision.

People too quite appropriately, have excoriated the "Judenrat" which attempted to
make a deal with Hitler in exchange for a letting up on anti-Jewish policies.
Those naively idiotic buzzards, much like Neville Chamberlain, hadn't learned, you
can't negotiate with Nazis.

But what has your post to do in the slightest with what I posted prior?

Classifieds / Place to Rent/Buy for Gastronomy Business in Warsaw [2]

What are your qualifications, certifications and the like to undertake such a project? Furthermore, what makes
you think you have anything to offer folks in Warsaw or anywhere else in Poland, for that matter? Have you even tested
the waters yet?

Sounds thus far a bit pie in the sky to me. Maybe my Forum colleagues may differ.

Sadly so, Rich, I'll give you that one.
It's all a matter of political clout, voting blocks,
that sort of thing.

@Indeed, Milo!
Most people everywhere who are mandated to learn English, as with any required subject
in grade school, hate it and find it boring.

Save for the rare, gifted language maven who desires to absorb a language and do it
justice to a native speaker of that language, your run-of-the-mill foreign English speaker
will never actually internalize the language, riddled as it normally is with native language
interference, bolstered as a rule by bad-ass attitude and resistance to having to use it
instead of their mother tongue.

Exceptions to the above scenario are as rare as jewels:-)

Quite, Milo!
@Pawian, I'm relieved that you were exposed as a student, perhaps also as a pupil, of English
to native Brits and Yanks, I truly am.

Frankly though, it doesn't seem to have rubbed off entirely, hate to be blunt here.
Oh,well. You never stop learning. Dalej ucz sie! Cwiczenie czyni mistrza:-) Of course, that
goes double for my Polish!!

Speaking Polish in Poland's really just a no-brainer.

@Pawian,
I only meant that you're purposely playing with language here, which is ok
by me, so long as you admit your error:-) Again, your English teachers were Poles
and so what do you expect??

The question was already answered when he asked how it can't exist in English after using it so extensively.
All of his English teachers in grade school were obviously Poles, not educated native English speakers, so
his surprise shouldn't come as one to us!

Hello and welcome to PF!

In terms of "linguistic requirements" to work as a street car driver in Warsaw, I'd think a
knowledge of Polish would prove more valuable in the long run, don't you?

A foreigner in Spain without knowledge of Spanish probably today would have more
chance at communication in basic English than in Poland.

Merely a suggestion. Good luck in your job search.

@Pawian,
I realize some find it cute, but "Polasses" for "Polki"
DOESN'T EXIST in English! Just say "Poles" and you'll
be fine.

@Rich, I just did:-)

@Rich, rogue Jews are scarcely the ones to quote as to justifying anti-Semitism!
Why not include Bobby Fisher, Jewish chess champ extraordinaire, well-known for
self hating anti-Jewish rants.

History / The history of Talmud and why idiots shouldn't read it [19]

First of all, much as with the Bible, the Torah has undergone
ever so much interpretation, re-writing, above all translation,
it is equally difficult to know what exactly is meant within her pages!

As with the Holy Scriptures, anybody can seize upon a passage in order
to make it fit their own philosophy, true or not:-))

Not always, johnny!
American Jews in particular have simply tried to mimic their money conscious W.A.S.P
neighbors and compatriots over the past hundred odd years.
Certain other groups didn't measure personal success by quite the same degree of assimilation.

Many Israelis stop in Poland on their way to visit the US.
I know a number of Israelis who actually managed to learn
Polish! Quite impressive.

Interestingly enough, they also speak German,
although their background, that is, their parents,
came from Poland before emigrating to Israel.

The point being that assimilated Polish-born Jews as POLES made sizable contributions
both to Polish as well as world culture, from music to science.
