Food / Healthy polish food? [143]

scurvy

Pigwa, even as a cordial, is good for that.

Who knows

They do. Except for the ones who over relied on it and died due to slow poisoning with oxalic acid. Buttermilk mitigates the danger a bit but only a bit.

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [599]

seatbelts

Seatbelts save lives and reduce injuries (which are of course medically treated from the public purse just as a driver's widow and children are supported by society.

It wasn't much of an imposition to wear a mask for a few minutes when you went into a supermarket and the precautions only lasted while they were needed; masks are not compulsory in hospitals except occasionally In accuse geriatric wards.

Public health measures are not 'nanny state' fantasies. The temporary regulations were not implemented lightly or for long.

When someone tells me I HAVE TO

You have to pay tax, have to drive on the correct side of the road for the jurisdiction you're in and have to avoid burgling people. These are not onerous.

those that did have COVID were at higher risk of blood clots too

Sadly true. As Alien said, millions died from covid. In the case of a family member of mine the death was drowning in sputum and pus while sedated and ventilated. But hey, some people throw a hissy fit because they 'HAVE TO' put a mask on for a few minutes to protect someone old and/or disabled.

Sauerkraut saved millions of Poles

Gherkins and sorrel too, however sorrel and its overuse has also taken them.

Cabbage is used extensively here

And so am I. It's used however to listen to people who've been there, you'd think that was pretty well all that's eaten.

tomato's

Tomatoes. You mentioned them.

Nasty things unless cooked.

History / 20 years of Poland in the EU. [317]

Thank you, Union.

It's had a huge benefit to Poland and I've of course been there to see it.

I hope this continues. Although the EU does have problems and of course one of its main members has left with probably more to follow, there's still a huge role for a trading bloc with mutual assistance. The federalist tendency within the EU need to learn that their goals aren't shared and once they've grasped that, the future will be bright.

Tomato's

Tomatoes. They're used sometimes but not that much compared to other European cuisines.

Public health.

all his conspiracies have come true.

They haven't though, have they.

Hard to know why you think it's about 'control' or why you think there's 'indoctrination'.

Cabbage (kapusta) is used in a lot of the Polish cuisine

Not as much as outsiders think.

So what?

We survived the pandemic, despite losing loved ones and did it by acting together as societies rather than selfishness.

UK, Ireland / Polish immigrants in the UK - victims or criminals?! [286]

No, to troll.

As mentioned, vaccination is perhaps the single greatest achievement in medicine that has saved and continues to save the lives of millions.

A particularly grisly murder.

The dismembered corpse of a 67 year old man was found in various parts of a nature reserve near Manchester last week.

It sparked a forensic search to identify the victim as well as a manhunt for the perp/s.

Two men were charged in court today. Their names are Michal Jaroslaw Polchowski, 68, and Marcin Majerkiewicz, 42.

They spoke in the commital hearing at magistrates court via an interpreter. I suspect the trial (if they plead not guilty) will be an interesting one.

Life / Primary Education in Poland - Changes Made to Homework? [15]

if the teacher takes time

One thing they don't have.

acquire a skill by simple looking (a lot of the time - I certainly didn't)

Same here, however that's the reality of a lot of kids' lives. Kids have different levels of intelligence, different sorts of family and so many distractions. Homework certainly has value however not as a key component of a curriculum. We have to deal with the way things actually are rather than the way we think they would be in an ideal parallel world.

unless parents are stupid enough to do their child's homework instead of the child

That is far more common than you'd think. Of course plenty of parents equally couldn't care less if their kids did homework or not.

Food / Healthy polish food? [143]

Healthy Polish Food is surely an oxymoron!

Yes and no. Some is certainly carb-heavy winter food and of course wedliny etc is ultra-processed however there are some pretty healthy things, especially the soups and things like mizeria.

Plus the prepared food is only part of any country's cuisine and the fresh soft fruit is generally superb. Except for the rhubarb which is laughably poor.

Supermarkets though always default to the cheapest to produce. Same everywhere.

UK, Ireland / "Strange " English language.. [264]

most of you Yanks will probably be speaking Spanish......

In some parts of their country, most already do:

Only above the servants' quarters.

Which to be fair is most of the building. It's basically a function suite, a hotel, a carpool and an office block with flats in.

other regions feature vaster fields while southern Poland narrow strips

There's plenty of strip farming to the west of Warsaw.

gender doesn't really exist

It's a social construct. And certainly exists. If you feel otherwise, put a dress on and go round Biedronka. People will stare.

so it does depend on sex

Ask Louise Brown that.

And don't worry; simply because gender roles in developed societies are changing, people will continue to play hide the sausage.

homework in the boundaries of sense and reason

It hasn't been banned you know. Kids are still free to study after school. Those with more chaotic family lives will however be less likely to fall behind by not doing it.

Of course. Why not? The hospitals all belong to us and the videos made by individual groups of nurses in their own time in order to lift people's spirits were very well appreciated by all. There's a long tradition of hospital staff doing such things. Do you object to the annual medical students' charity bed push as well?

get my medical records

You've posted at least three conflicting things here troll, including that you followed sensible advice and had the protection against covid.

Get a grip on yourself.

No. Young women are inherently more valuable

Let them decide. We fortunately have far fewer wars now and women (together with other genders) are no longer the excluded from the military.

it's not feasible on a large scale

Gender and sexuality have no biological bearing on fertility whatsoever.

"Sorry that you couldn't be by Grandma's bedside

We know all this and some of us got the sharp end of it. Did the hard working nurses and healthcare assistants make that policy themselves or did they have to live with it like everyone else? That and work double shifts with dying people.

But hey, they aren't allowed to let their hair down after work either. Though feel free to blame them if it makes you feel better; they're used to that.

Aren't a small number of nurses allowed to privately make videos outside work just because an online misanthrope disagrees with public health policy?
