but then a guy who entered politics 6 months ago has almost double the votes...

That guy has powerful backers. He is nothing on his own

Both Biedroń and Kosiniak-Kamysz went downhill after that

At least now they can blame "pandemia" and not their own incompetence for the failure. This should also be a main line of defense for Kidawa-Blonska ;-)

History / History of computer markets and piracy in Poland [5]

Does anyone here have any stories about using computers in the 1990's

I grew up around computers. I remember ZX spectrum's and IBM PC's installed in our living room. My father had a small private computer lab in our flat with the equipment, printers and plotters which were not easy to get by back then in Poland.

In the mid 90's he has set up an internet network in our local technical university.
Not long after that an ex-commie uni rector has introduced his son for that position to get all the credit for my father's work.

Lazy and talentless opportunists always want to consume the work of the others. That's the essence of socialism.

My father has quit his academic job to start a small IT company. He has made a good choice.

As for General Rozanski, even Lech Kaczyński decorated him.

And that change the facts how exactly? Is being decorated by Kaczynski some sort of ablution which removes all past crimes and wrongdoings? You are starting to speak like some tribal mouthpiece again.

All communist fosils should be removed from Polish politics or, like Piotrowicz, used as a tool to remove the other communist scum. And then disposed from public life.

voting for Hołownia then found out Tusk is his advisor

It's much worse than that. General Rozanski, a Jaruzelski's Golden Fund recipient, is behind him. Rozanski has joined the communist party in the heat of martial law in Poland in 1982. That says a lot about a quality of that man.

History / Roman Dmowski-Patriot, Nationalist, Anti-Semite? [251]

Do you think that could have worked?

We will never know that. He has correctly predicted that there will be a clash between Germany and Russia. And also an inevitable collapse of Russia which ended in the Bolshevik revolution.

Germany has helped the soviet revolution to happen by safely transporting Lenin to Russia during WWI to drown it in the fire of revolution. And to eliminate Russia from participating in the war which was a success. Thanks to that move Germany and Austria have almost won WWI on the continent.

Yes, you have seen through their dirty machinations.

Not even a political machinations. For that one needs to have at least a little bit of wit and practical political knowledge. They are dimwits and their hate is based on instincts really. They are instinctly against right-wing conservatives just like a common crook is against the rule of law.

My common sense is stronger since from my experience in Western Europe I know that the destruction of a healthy tissue of a society is often irreversible.

And the rest of political establishment is equally anti-Konfederacja and would aim to remove true conservatist from Polish Politics anyway. They're just masking it now in false hopes that Konfederacja will help them to destroy PiS. Once the lesser sort would gain majority they would quickly turn against us.

PiS has to be replaced with Konfederacja without letting a "total opposition" to rule.

There's a very, very clear panic going on in PiS right now

To be honest I don't see the panic and I read news from various sources.

If anything, the latest polls normilized predictions at 43%-27% for Duda vs Trzaskowski in the first turn.

The most optimistic predictions for Trzaskowski are based on a wishful thinking that 80% of those who didn't voted for Duda in the first turn will vote for Trzaskowski in the 2nd. You see, those who would not vote for Duda in the 1st round are not by default anti-Duda - they are just more pro other candidates like Kamysz, K.Bosak, Holownia... - and many of them will vote for Duda in the 2nd round.

Everything will be clear after the first round. If Duda win it 43% to 27% then the 2nd. round is a pure formality and Trzaskowski will not be able to get extra 24% in just under 2 weeks. He may have a chance if the difference between them would be less than 10%

Me as always: the first round voting for K.Bosak, 2nd. round for Duda

History / Roman Dmowski-Patriot, Nationalist, Anti-Semite? [251]

Dmowski tried to oppose Piłsudski in all aspects of politics so it is natural he supported close ties with Russia.

Dmowski's relation to Russia was closely tied to his justified belief that the biggest threat to Poland is, and always was, a Germany.

Dmowski wasn't impressed with Russia in the slightest sense of that word. He regarded them as a primitive civilization. In his work about "Germany, Russia and a Polish question" published in 1908 he regarded Russia as a country which is on a brink of self-destruction. And that's exactly what has happened in 1917

So he wanted to ally with Russia first to take over occupied Polish lands from the Germans and then once all those lands are united to work against Russia for Polish independence.

My opinion about Trzaskowski: appearance of a hipster with pro-LGBT agenda. Once elected he would do what would push what he has promised in the past that is: his dream of homosexual "marriages" and sex indoctrination to schools. Fortunatelly, his chances of winning are slim

He is also a liar: he initially lied about not voting in favour for altering the age of retirement in Poland.

is enough to read Dmowski`s texts

Yes, let's discuss them. Which one are you referring to? I assume that you have actually read them.
And if you didn't here's an article about Dmowski's attitude towards Russia

rightist and nationalist groups are ready to accept losing independence to Russia in order to keep Poland conservative

Let's start with the fact that so called Russian connection of conservative right-wing parties in Poland is a piece of PiS propaganda (and since when you're believing in PiS propaganda?) without any proof to follow and it was debunked by G.Braun

Grzegorz Braun dzwoni do ABW i zawiadamia służby ws. kłamstw Morawieckiego o Konfederacji:
youtube.com/watch?v=kbvvvCMB_YI&t=594s&ab_channel=KonfederacjaTV

And also it is a left wing, who would like to give away independence and would want Poland to completely submit to the EU. They are dreaming of the EU Federation in which all the nation states would cease to exist.

Konfederacja stands firmly on the ground that Poland should be an independent and sovereign state.

So yes, learn more about them instead of repeating PiS propaganda.

the EU potentially banning people from USA traveling to Poland?

The EU doesn't have jurisdiction over those matters. People often assume that the EU has far more power than it really has, like in case of judicial reforms in Poland. All it has is what've been granted by nation states and limited by the treaties.

I though that a recent Karlsruhe court ruling* made it clear

euronews.com/2020/05/15/germany-constitutional-court-gone-nuclear-what-happens-next-will-shape-the-eu-future-view

The EU is a tootless dog which can bark but it cannot bite. And sometimes, when it gets too loud, it needs to be disciplined...

I'm personally waiting patiently for this neomarxist bureaucratic institution to fall.

Don't be silly, Like Jobbik Konfederacja will be junior partner.

PiS is Kaczynski and Kaczynski is PiS. It is a common practice in large organizations that a leader removes all the ambitious challengers from his surroundings. Think about it for a second. Who, in this very moment, could replace Kaczynski in PiS: vanilla Morawiecki (who was pushed by Kaczynski as his successor but has the charisma of a block of wood)? Ziobro? Gowin? Or a partisan Macierewicz perhaps?

If for some reason Kaczysnki would be gone those junior leaders would jump to their throats to fight for what's left but none of them could replace Kaczynski. Without him PiS will quickly degenerate.

Anyway, look what happened to PO when Tusk left: Kopacza, Schetyna, Budka...need I have to say more?

anti abortion laws with all those heavily disabled kids.

Interesting that you've mentioned that because Korwin-Mikke spoke about it and said that more or less "women shouldn't be forced to give birth to disabled children"

The main challenge lies in replacing PiS with Konfederacja without ever letting POKO and Leftists rule again, which would be a disaster for Poland.
Same goes for the parliament as well as presidential election, which is why I'll vote for Duda in the 2nd round.

A transition period of cooperation between the rising Konfederacja and PiS would be optimal. At least until Konfederacja would grow strong enough to takeover PiS's place.

My feeling is that Left side would be much more upset with Konfederacja's rule than with PiS right now. And they are only supporting Konfederacja right now to take a swing at PiS. Which is a very short sighted policy on their side but I'm very glad that they cannot think in terms of long range political strategy :-)

it's a textbook example

It's a texbook example of artificially pumping up candidate's numbers before the elections in a false hope that it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Palade sympathises with PiS

Good for him.

Would be nice if he added a link to the source (where are the numbers are taken from) and stated the calculation method. I want to see some hard data that I can comment on.

...I've never voted for anyone other than the Scottish National Part

Acknowledged.

And another poll.

Opinion polls do not give Trzaskowski more than 30% in the 1st round, and usually oscillate around 28%. And we're talking about opinion polls which were usually pro "liberal"(remember when Komorowski "won" the elections with 73% in 2015? ;-)

I wonder how they explain his sudden boost to 48% in 2nd round. Are they counting that all of those who didn't vote for Duda in the 1st round will vote for Trzaskowski in the 2nd? Pure political fantasy...

Konfederacja would be major winners. They could dictate key policy points to PiS

Now we're talking. Sure, that would be an optimal solution which I suggested on PF when the party was created in Dec 2018. It's somewhat modelled on Fidesz-Jobbik dynamics in Hungary.

The thing is that that PiS could find a common voice with Konfederacja on some ideological platform like:

- anti militant LGBT propaganda

- anti multikulti agenda

- judicial reforms, where two parties argue about the details but not about the need for those reforms

but not on the other which revolves around economy and personal freedoms like:

- capitalism instead of socialism in the economy

- tax laws

- liberal gun laws

- Polonization of the economy in form of Polish private capital takeovers not nationalization by state.

Among PiS MEPs there are some conservatists but there are also some totalitarian minded fossils who would not be out of place in Lewica or any other left wing party. All of them, more or less, are being held in place by Kaczynski who likes to model himself on J. Pilsudski. And Marshal Pilsudski wasn't himself a full-fledged conservatist.

To be fair it makes sense. They are new entity and will gain more by being independent than by some shady deals

Kondederacja doesn't have political structures as large as the other political parties (yet) but it does have an integrity, a very rare commodity in politics.

PS: Who would have taugh that Konfederacja will find its advocates in form of an old Scottish unionist and a young Polish feminist ;-)

@Lenka

There's a lot of high quality female symphatizers of conservative right which can be observed during events in Swietlica Wolnosci bar in Warsaw.

One has to admit Trzaskowski is the most attractive one

As expected, most women will vote on the basis of "good looks" and not a political programme of a candidate :-)

it will be too little too late. By the time it hits news

They will be most likely 2 rounds of voting. Second round on 12 July...

I wish my own preferred party didn't screw it up every presidential election

Well, you can always start rooting for another candidate and move more to the right perhaps? :-)

I'm glad that you're rooting for K.Bosak because that man has a bright future in front of him. However, the "genius plan" that those right wing voters which Bosak`will take from Duda's in the 1st turn will somehow magically materialize for Trzaskowski in 2nd round is laughable :-)

Nothing is certain in politics but the dynamics are on side of Duda's team, especially since the introduction of lgbt subject. Without an aggressive push Trzaskowski will loose it, he is the one who needs to get at least 20% more (overall) votes to win in 2nd round.

By being passive, like he is now, he won't get them. Duda could afford to be more passive at this stage but he is the more active one so far!

At 60% dedicated voters there's ~18 000 000 votes to be taken. Duda has ~40% of them that is 7 200 000. He needs another 1.8 mil. in 2nd round to win. Trzaskowski at (optimistically speaking) ~30% has 5 400 000 votes and he needs to convince more than 3.5 mil. voters to win the 2nd round.

I have to say @dolphiandomine that for the last few weeks you're trying to appear more balanced and your posts look less ridiculous than usual. Obviously one of the reasons is that you don't want to look like an **se again once all this is over, but still kudos to you.

I hope that I've contributed a little bit to your [so far] promissing change :-)

PS: If you would only start providing links to those polls you're sharing to make them look less dodgy it would be great.
