Life in communist Poland - personal relations

famous Russian themed Rasputin song

rah rah rasputin, lover of the russian queen...

years ago I read a russian journal (an American woman spent about a year in Moscow and Leningrad with her grad student husband in the late 70s) this was a time where that kind of stay was almost impossible for Americans.

She reported that Rasputin by Boney M, although officially frowned upon or even officially banned was hugely popular.

Also years ago while a student at university (mid-late 80s) I attended a party hosted by an American who'd spent a couple of years in Germany.... found a Boney M greatest hits records in his collection and convinced him to play some of it... the other people at the party were very.... confused (Boney M was all but completely unknown there).

fun times...

Yes, the music of our youth. :):):) Boney M and ABBA ruled. We also liked Goombay Dance Band who were dark skinned, too. I still remember how I stole my elder sister`s comfortable soft mocassin shoes and went to a disco in our primary school.

Forest Opera which is claimed to be a magical place.

It is indeed located in the woods.

Christmas was always celebrated in communist times, even in the darkest stalinist times in 1950s.

Depending on the period,. there was a good or bad supply of goods for Christmas. As you know, I have always been obsessed about fruit. Apples were available all year round but nobody cared about them. The only exotic fruit available in good times were oranges and mandarines. In bad times, the oranges were lousy - green, sour ones from Cuba.

I am still haunted by those memories even though communism collapsed 34 years ago.
That is why today the most varied staple which I get for Christmas in food terms is exotic fruit. A dozen or more kinds, while fish - only 3 kinds.

Communists did care for outdoor decorations, though.

Well, that's because your heritage group was always a minority in Poland (as in Polska not Polin).

Did you dip your apples in honey?

"Apples and honey: For many Jews, these words are an inseparable pairing. We dip a slice of apple in honey to express our hopes for a sweet and fruitful year."

reformjudaism.org/jewish-holidays/rosh-hashanah/why-apples-and-honey

Or did you prefer caramel and chocolate?

Hey, Poloniusz, good to see you back.
I am really curious what you will say about Ukraine and Israel.

Did you dip your apples in honey?

No, I didn`t. I refused to eat them at all coz I dreamt of exotic fruit straight from Israel. hahahaha

always a minority in Poland

Yes, there are very few of us now in Poland. What a pity! hahahaha

I am really curious what you will say about Ukraine and Israel.

You have to wait. I am more important to Poloniusz than your silly topics.

Hey, Poloniusz, good to see you back.

Hello Novichok!

Thank you and it is good to see you are still around. Yes, shadow banning prevented an earlier return. Perhaps Elon Musk should buy PolishForums as well!

I am really curious what you will say about Ukraine and Israel.

I will have more to say about these in other threads but basically they are both foreign countries with corrupt regimes using the global military industrial complex to grift for themselves and with a complete disregard to the destruction of the local environment and native populations. Western countries should be spending money at home rather than wasting it on these two basket-case countries.

Yes, shadow banning prevented an earlier return.

What is shadow banning? There was a rumor you stopped posting for personal reasons. No, I am not trying to get into your personal life. Just saying...

Western countries should be spending money at home rather than wasting it on these two basket-case countries.

That's what PAK and I have been saying...
I wish Dirk was back...

See you around...

That's what PAK

PAK used to say different things last year and you can`t be sure he won`t change again next year. :_):):)

I wish Dirk was back...

Dirk also used to say many interesting things but his wishful thinking comments on the Polish society finally proved completely wrong. Ha!

See you

See ya!!!!

What is shadow banning?

It's a form of censorship. You can login and everything looks the same until you try to post. Then you are unable to or no one can see what you post or see that you even logged in.

There was a rumor you stopped posting for personal reasons.

Not at all. I was prevented from posting by someone who thought PolishForums should follow the leftist Twitter playbook.

Sure, such censorship activities would have looked great on a resume if they were looking for a job at Twitter before Tusk took over.

But now such cancel culture antics are seen as an embarrassment rather than righteous.

It's a form of censorship.

It originated solely in your mind, it seems. Amassing! :):):)

This kind of crap on an American forum??? That rat stinks like Europe all over...
If you don't mind...Why would they block you from posting? This method is like jamming in the PRL.

@Novichok

Yes, given that PolishForum was founded and based in the United States along with the knowledge of Poland's own long history of occupation and oppression one would have thought that freedom of expression would be a hallmark of PolishForums. Nope.

Why would they block you from posting?

No reason was ever given. But considering the timeframe it has to be nothing more than petty, woke, self-righteousness.
Novichok 4 | 8,165

...and, thus, British.
Please tell me you are not British.

freedom of expression

Freedom of expression - yes. In a responsible way.
But you lied too much and too often, thus violating the freedom of expression. So you were blocked coz you were getting tiring.
Poloniusz 4 | 715

Please tell me you are not British.

Absolutely not.

If I were British (or one of their Anglophile patsies on here) I would never have been shadow banned.

Straight from Middle East. While apples and pomme grenades are already in the basket in the kitchen.

Straight from Middle East

These are always risky purchases. Yesterday I had to throw away a whole watermelon which was beautiful on the outside but completely frozen on the inside.

That is why I started buying halves and even quarters, coz I can see what is inside. I had never done it before. Each year brings sth new. Amasing!

Hey, darling, don`t be such a hasty manipulator, it is unhealthy. :):):) Tusk has been ruling for only 10 days or so.

Tusk has been ruling for only 10 days or so.

And in just that short amount of time the world witnessed Tusk unleash police raids on the media and now we see you crying over inferior fruit.

Soon you will be paying more for less.

Quarter sizes will be priced at half sizes and half sizes will be priced at whole sizes. Whole sizes will be unavailable.

Tusk will not usher in an age of prosperity except for himself.

Poles will face a future of penury and malnourishment thanks to the fools that voted for the elitist millionaire Eurocrat Tusk.

Mark my words!

Several months ago and during that time I would login but not be able to post. My profile showed nothing about being suspended and I never received any explanation.

He didn`t. He is bshyting you.

LOL. You say this out of one side of your mouth and then earlier out of the other side of your mouth you said:

you were blocked coz you were getting tiring.

Conclusion: never trust the words of a Tusk voter.

I feel honoured that you follow my words so carefully. Thanks. hahahaha

Kneel down, darling, when you utter/type the holy name of the Saviour!!!

Conclusion:

Conclusion is that your come back has certainly added more spice into the forum. We needed that. Keep it going and don`t invent silly shadows, bans and other bs. :):):)

Tusk has been ruling for only 10 days or so.

Soon you will be paying more for less.

Correction, soon you won't have enough money to buy anything! LOL!

"Poland's president said Saturday that he intends to veto a spending bill which includes money for public media and raises for teachers, dealing a blow to the new pro-European Union government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk."

cbs42.com/news/international/ap-polish-president-says-hell-veto-a-spending-bill-in-a-blow-to-the-new-government-of-donald-tusk/

I know what you are thinking: "What have I done? Why did I vote for Tusk when life was so much better under PiS?"

It's called voters' regret and there's nothing you can do about it now. It's your own fault anyway.
