Hello everyone,
I'm looking for fresh inspiration. I've been conducting genealogical research on my Polish father's side of my family for several years, and keep hitting the same wall. My father and all of his siblings and cousins have died, and with them my family's connection to Poland. My paternal grandfather, Antoni (b. 1895/7), immigrated to the U.S. in November 1913. He entered through Philadelphia, and indicated that he was from Pomaski, Russia. He was preceded by his brother Teodor (b. 1887) to the U.S. by several years.
For awhile, I thought that my grandfather's Antoni's family must be from Pomaski village (Gmina Szelków, Powiat Makówski, Masovian Voivodeship) or thereabouts. I've never been able to find other Moninski's in that area (or much at all in Poland), however, or connect anyone to my family.
I recently found my dad's uncle Teodore's draft card from 1917, and he indicates that he was from Makowskie village (Gmina Jedwabne, Powiat Łomżyński, Podlaskie Voivodeship). That would make a little more sense, as a cousin of mine faintly remembers that my dad's brother used to write to some elderly aunts in Bialystok.
I've been contacted by other Moninski's in the Midwest US, and even 1 or 2 from Poland. But we've been unable to establish a definitive connection to us East Coast Moninski's. Amoung the two groups, there are some shared names in our history (Eugene and Felix).
I've tried Ancestry, the LDS archives, random internet searches, Geneteka, using both parish info for the Pomaski and Makowskie villages, numerous spelling variations on the surname, but no dice. Anyone have any suggestions?
Gratefully yours,
Jessica Moninski
P.S. My grandfather Antoni's death certificate says that his father's name was Feliks and his mothers name was Feliksa Chodkowski (possibly Felixina).
