Another trick of the trade for canning pickles.
If you want to make your pickles crunchy, add 1/8th of a teaspoon of 'Alum' to each jar while canning them.
Alum (potassium aluminum sulfate) is a safe food additive that is ideal for pickling and canning.
It helps create crisp pickled fruits or vegetables.
My personal favorite sweet pickles have quite a different recipe which contain: Sliced cucumbers, sugar, vinegar, water, sliced jalapenos, red peppers flakes, alum, turmeric, few peppercorn and salt.
