i have got a sterling account in a polish bank - i transfer money, withdraw it and take it to a local kantor where i get a much better rate than the bank offers... when we are talking thousands of pounds to convert then even the slightest difference in echange rate adds up...
how did you go about setting up that account up BubbaWoo..... any idea what the current rate at the kantor is and would they be able to convert a large amount say 25k?
Guys, there was an article in the S times a few weeks ago........to transfer 100000 Euro within the Euro zone, the differences were nearly 3000 between the worst and the best..!!
If I can I will do a search...will get back to you asap if I find anything.
last time i was there.. end of november... the bank was offering something like 5.55 and my guy gave me 5.61... which was better than other kantors were offering...
interested in what youre saying frank... more details please if you find them...
Ela/Bubb your combined luck was in..........BUT you may still have to shop around...ok?
The best to transfer 100000 Euros, was Currencies direct or Moneycorp ( plus the charge 15 pounds to do the transfer but will cover the cost at the other end...important to check that too on such a large amount!!!!)......they cost 67,783 pounds and the worst was Natwest...at 70,822, pounds a difference of 3,039 pounds....!!.....YES £3039!!!!.............for what!!!????
The whole changing money at the Kantor thingys, the mother in law just phones round see who offers the best deal. Then in a military convey we, brother, father, mother, missus and me all head of to the kantor to change the cash. The brother and I stand point whilst the rest of the family crowds in the kantor and the deal is done. The guys at the Kantor have side arms, which just goes to show how serious the whole buisness is. However, the best way to get a decent rate is to change large sums in one go and that way the people tend to give you a good deal, when I say large sum anything above say £10000. We've definately done well on the 'ole exchange rate. i remember when we were changing 1 to like 6.8 or 6.9 a few years ago.
thanks for all the feedback...more investigating is required as my friend obviously wants the best exchange rate possible especially as he is already buying a property over his budget.
[Moved from]: Estate Agents fees if you are buying a new apartment
When you buy a NEW apartment from an estate agent in Poland, do you have to pay the estate agent a fee. I know you have to pay a fee if you are buying a second hand property?
Instead, I was thinking about the final contract, the occupancy permit and the ceritificate of the premises being a separate chamber of habitation.
Am I right in thinking that the final contract cannot be signed until an occupancy permit and the certificate is issued? And therefore I cannot sell the property until all these documents are issued?
I see a lot of people talking about buying property in Poland and how you require a notery/permit and such things. Does any one have any experiance in buyinga plot of land for building a property

i believe this depends on the contract you signed with the developer.... some have clauses which will allow you to sell prior to completion
