If you marry an EU citizen then you can stay with them anywhere in the EU is the general rule. Not sure how the new entrants are treated in this respect but I think it was subject to a two year period that has not expired.

Not married but living together is more difficult. Have you checked out our Home Office website as there are loads of detailed docs to read on the subject. Can't remember the address but just google for direc gov in the Uk and go in through that portal.

Wait is there anyone here? how do i know if this thing is really working? and is that duude really haveing sex with an 89yr old? Sorry Suk, is the text wrong?89?

hey thanks szarlotka. thought i was alone there for a minute, yeah i have checked it out. we havent been living together at all? We will be in Ireland but thats only for a year! So will we have to get married to get around all that? I know that for her to come to NZ on a Spousal visa you only have to be together for 1yr (with prof) but we wana start in the UK.

Im no expert on this, but Im English and living with a Pole in the UK. My understanding is that as a EU citizen he has the right to remain here indefinitely even if we dont marry.

As a Kiwi, you will presumably be on a limited time work permit and therefore only have the right to remain in the UK for as long as that lasts. Your girlfriend should be able to stay here as she is a EU member. Not sure about whether you should get married.. but staying in the UK isnt a good enough reason to take that step.. unless you want to do it anyway. Hope this is useful and anyone feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

if getting married is the only way to be together than that sucks.... wedont want to be say to our kids that hey we only got married because thats the only way we could stay together in the uk!!

but staying in the UK isnt a good enough reason to take that step..

for sure sapphire we dont want that to be the reason behind our love for each other.. just need to figure out how to be together with all the complications we have on our plates... like the living together for more than 2yrs (with proff) Our status so far is together for more than a year but not living together and going to be living together in ireland for 1yr..then when that is up I have to leave! (because of visa) what do we do???

sorry I dont know what to advise, but even if you do marry, Im not sure that will give you the right to remain in the UK, since neither of you are UK citizens. Probably best to check with home office for exact rules and regs... otherwise, take her back to NZ.. its gotta be better than living here.. the way things are going.

Well, I have to agree with that, I'm a Brazilian/Italian woman married to a Polish man, never been so happy in all life, not only for the sex, of course, he's amazing in everything he does and yes, he looks hooooooooot!

We met six years ago and we're together and (HAPPILY) married for over 4 years now!
Cheers everyone!

I presume he didn't realise that 2008 was a leap year!!

you are such a kill joy. you're answer is logical but somehow practically incorrect. so, when do we actually get the extra day huh? we should get it by the end of the year, don't you think so, because the earth finishes to revolve around the sun after a year? so, it should take one extra day to actually complete its 4th revolution. and our anniversary was last april 9, you see =P

hey.. this is definitely the thread for me. I too am dating a Polish guy who barely spoke any English when I met him.. now we are living together, but its not been easy. We love each other but there are so many language and cultural differences that lead to arguments at times. Also I know that his family will never accept me as he left his wife for me.. but Im not a bad person and we love each other... any comments welcome

I have just started a fun relationship with a fantastic Polish man , lot younger than me , he was very honest and told me he had a wife but had been separated from her for over 3 years ..... but I already have misunderstandings as I am not sure how strong his feelings are for me - Polish men sound very romantic and a lot more emotional than English guys , is this why you love your Polish man despite all the difficulties ? thanks for your help - gabyx

I've been a relationship with a Polish guy for nearly a year, a bit like kamyk but I left my husband for him, so his family will never accept me either. I certainly know that age doesn't matter to him as I'm over 12years older than him, but like you I'm still not sure how strong his feelings are for me, certainly growing the longer we are together but still a wide void to bridge as he keeps alot of secret/private thoughts to himself, but we're happy.

Laungage barrier can make things aukward and I often misunderstand leading to un-neccesary upset......

We have great sex and he makes me feel like a teenager. Never had so much sex in my life. polish guys are the best to have sex with.

totally agree ... i tried to make this comment elsewhere on the site and got slammed for being racially biased (ie, saying polish guys had a specific character in the sack).

What is this teenager thing? It is absolutely true. I feel about 15, mostly, with him. And it feels GOOD. I deeply dislike being a 'grownup'.

I agree definately great in bed but I seem to tire him out too much, either that or he doesn't fancy as much as he used to??!!

His sex drive i supposed to be higher as he's younger..... oh well

Relationships with a foregin man was the best iI have ever had in my life, that,s why i think it is possible and can be very successful, but on the other hand what "killed" us was the distance- so, think better twice before You start dating somebody living far far away...

I am Southern Italian and I am in a relationship with hot gorgeous Polish girl. She is stunning. I have dated other Polish girls before and they were are as gorgeous and friendly as her.

I guess hot Polish girls love the power of Rome.

My two cents:

I met my Polish bf in Helsinki, Finland, I myself being a Vietnamese girl, who grew up in Finland. We just moved to Krakow. One thing he says he loves about me is that I am sporty.. we play badminton, squash, tennis, basketball together, go rollerskating etc... He said that none of the girls he had dated before were sporty in that way (I mean, some girls prolly would do aerobics, but they didn't do sport TOGETHER :), and we both like the fact that we can do this kind of things together, instead of only just hanging around, going shopping, cafeteria.. etc :)

And he also loves Vietnamese food, so that is great! :)

He helps me at home, carries the bags when we go shopping for groceries, is romantic and very attentive, both in bed and outside the bed :)

His parents were a little shock when he told them about me, and his father even said that he doesn't accept that we live together without being married.. hihihi.. We have been dating for only 8 months so I don't think we are getting married sometime soon :)

I'm in a Polish / Kiwi relationship (myself being the Kiwi)... Hopefully with the NZ / Polish working holiday visa system beginning in September, there will be more Polish /Kiwi relationships in the future.

And my man is very polite and well mannered, kind, sweet, respectful, and I'm very lucky to know him

Are you in a Polish-nonPolish relationship?

Yes. My gf is English, I'm Polish.

I was seeing someone Polish, but she was so boring so I dumped her, constantly whinging about how things might be better if she goes home (I felt like saying "well **** off home then!" :) ). Like most Polish women, she would have made a good mum or wife, but was a crap date - and where's the fun in that? Unsurprisingly, she had no idea how to dress, unlike my beautiful well-dressed English girl, who knows it's not the early 1990s any more. So for all you fools who think English women are chavvy, fat and ugly - think again! And open your eyes. Good riddance to the Polka I say! lol!

It makes me laugh reading that "Polish women are the most beautiful in the world" thread (which for some bizarre reason I'm not allowed to post to. Hmm... ). Whoever started that thread clearly hasn't lived!!! Or left their bedroom! If 250 000 Singaporean, Filipino, Italian, Spanish or Czech women suddenly came over to the UK, there would be a lot of badly-dressed single Polish women I can tell you! Maybe they would all have to turn lesbian instead lol :)
