Help, Polish men are very complicated!

I recently met a Polish man through work (i am an English girl). He was very charming and funny and friendly, he said nice things and would kiss my hands when we said goodbye! I thought he must really like me, so i gave him my phone number. He hasn't really made an effort to contact me, but every time i see him, he is still really charming etc. I have a big crush on him, but have no idea if he does like me, or if he is just being polite. From reading this forum it seems that Polish men do generally treat women in a very complimentary way - so how do i know if he likes me or not??!!

And can you tell me how 'przytulic' translates, would this be a nice thing to say to him??

Thanks, English Girl x

I Concur.

Angielski - Polish men are no different to English men, they can't read minds, if you like him, ask him out, Im sure if he thought you were a pig he wouldn't be kissing your hand.

Hi, thanks for the reply but not helpful!

I am trying to understand a little more about Polish men and their culture before i make a big mistake and end up looking really stupid. I only see him in a 'work' situation so its not appropriate for me to ask him there.

Also the hand-kissing thing - isn't this some kind of custom that all Polish people do??

In this so-called work situation it is ok for him to kiss your hands and flirt with you, but not for you to ask him out.

if you like him, ask him out

Either that or live a life of regret.

Is hand-kissing flirting, or is it a Polish custom?! He as been friendly, funny and 'charming' so far - nothing else.

You guys on the forum are tough!

lol you guys crack me up.

My boyfriend is polish and he act no different to any other male in the world. He is charming and affectionate ect ect... he does not kiss me on the hand when we say goodbye though so I doubt its a polish custom thing.

WHy dont you ask him if it is a custom thing of if he likes you? might be an opener to find out if he is interested.

Does he do this with anyone else at work?

And I TOLD YOU that they are no different to English men..some are well mannered some are not...FFS they are not from another planet!!! HE IS A MAN from a european country, they are no different to men from the rest of Europe....

If you were a man, we'd be telling you to grow some balls!

We can still say that - in a metaphorical way ;0)

Ive been living in Poland for almost 2 years and I have never seen a Polish man kiss a womans hand. I just said this to my Polish girlfriend and she has just laughed at the suggestion Polish men kiss womens hands, although she said her grandparents so it with friends occassionaly. I suspect he is being funny and exaggerating the notion of male charm. I often kiss my females friends hands but it is fun, and I assure you it isnt an irish custom either. Polish men treat women in no more a complimentary way than men anywhere, with the exception of perhaps some extreme islamic nations :) Just ask him out, what have you got to lose ?

Not really, if you were in the same situation with an English guy - how would you read it? Would you dash off and google for a forum for English men?

By the way does he just give you a quick peck on the hand or does he give it a little lick? If he licks, it could be that he's craving salt, offer him a bag of walkers ready salted and the hand kissing may stop.

Yes , indeed it is, maybe not all men but most, especially with the older generation (say 30 and over), so in my opinion, kissing hands is probably just a sign of politeness.. How old is he? The only way to really find out is indeed to ask him out..

And by the way, yes, Polish men are generally much more courteous to women than in many other countries (holding doors, helping ladies to put on their coat and so on..) and I am not Polish!!

What part of what ShelleyS reply dont you understand, seriously ? Men are Men, all are different, all behave differently towards women, regardless of culture or nationality.

Nonsense, most of my friends in Poland are over 30 and they would roll around the floor laughing at you suggesting such a thing.

It's an old tradition. You can see old men in Poland still kiss women's hands. It's something like shaking hands but a little more affectionate. But it's rare among younger people these days.

True, but its an old tradition in every country.

By the way did he lick your feet yet. Its Polish culture to lick a womans feet, then turn around three times, jump up in the air and finish by slapping you on the left cheek three times. When he does that you know he is interested, try wearing sandals maybe

At least you have all made me laugh!! I reckon he's about 35, very gorgeous ( in a bad boy kind of way). NO HE DOESN'T LICK, but he doesn't do it to anyone else either! Sorry if i've made out that Polish people must be alien's, but its kinda exciting not having a clue what he's talking about..........

Can someone help me translate something i can text him, to avoid the embarrassment of trying to talk to him in polish.

hold on - Can i trust you lot??!!

Married? wife at home in Poland? Sounds like he's charming his way in to your knickers sweetie! I wouldn't bother chasing it any further.

hold on - Can i trust you lot??!!

Not me, I'll make you tell him that you've got genital herpes or something, but the Polish girls and guys that do the translations on here are worth their weight in gold.

I think Polish guys are pretty damned complicated critters!!! or at least that has been my personal experience. I have been dating a Polish guy for the past few months, and I really never know what each day is going to bring - hot and cold, up and down!!!

That said, I have never felt like this with anyone before and despite the emotional rollercoaster, when it's good it's fantastic!!! Polish guys are hot, hot, hot!!!

I have his number because he sent me a picture of some wobbly-looking house in Poland - some kinda new age architecture or something, but no message with it!

Angielski ! Rather than try and get translations why don't you arrange for a few of you to go for a drink after work and invite him too. Surely you will then see if he is interested in you ?

Just an idea!

I know i know, but its really complicated at work, i can't really explain, and i only actually see him once a week for a couple of hours, so that's why i have no idea what he's thinking.

How about a joke i could txt him in Polish, then see if he replies??

He might think, why the fook is this English chick sending me jokes in Polish, I just like to lick her hand because Im low on salt every time I visit her offices!

Sounds like you have a crush on him then and he is just being friendly and polite then as he only sees you once a week at work.

I think you are reading more into this really ? He has your number and if he was interested then I think he would have texted you by now and asked you out.

Shelleys! you are so harsh. Look, is there a moderator on here somewhere, i can't get any sense outa you lot!
I have a real big crush on this man, but want to retain some English pride and not look like a complete tit if i have totally mis-read him. So i thought i could test the water with a joke rather than just come straight out with 'i want you now!'

Lir, i think you are right :(

Shelleys! you are so harsh.

I would just ignore Shelley's advice as she's not Polish, am not sure what her connection with Poland is and she seems to only contribute irrelevant drivel to this forum.
