Life / Polish speed cameras [37]

As the poles say, "if in doubt go flat out"

Driving here is never boring but i seem to get terrible road rage here which i didn't get driving in the UK. Incompetence really pisses me off.

Life / Polish speed cameras [37]

mvefa have you ever driven in Poland as the way you talk you com across as a bit of an expert in these things?

Driving here IS extremely dangerous and you are effectively surrounded by monkeys in powerful machines with no idea how to treat them or handle them. If you stick to the rules some idiot will crash into you. Poles are generally nice people but the second they get behind the wheel of a car they are just dangerous and clueless and unwilling to accept blame for things which goes wrong (a mentality which shines through in other things they do).

Study / Dormitories for students in Poznan [5]

Have you seen the state of student accommodation here? 4 people sharing a room the size of our bathroom most rooms are littered with empty biedronka ready meal packets and empty bottles of cheap wine and vodka.

wouldn't you be better finding a room to rent?

Never seen anything like it and as its not a bmw i'm stumped at how to fix it,

Is anyone here in poznan who knows a thing or 2 about these strange little cars?

Life / Does anyone here know anything about fiat 126p's / maluchs? [7]

theres a machined mounting port on the right hand side of the engine below the dipstick and there seems to be oil spraying out of that onto the exhaust. Never seen anything like it before in any car ive ever worked on

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in UK. Ch. 1 - Staring [43]

First of all, people accuse you of staring all the time.

Yes Polish people do and its bloody annoying.

Can't I look at who is pushing their way past my bench in the pub? What is wrong???

Polish people push past people all the time and generally have no respect for other people its just other poles accept this lack of general manners from other people, Brits are generally more confrontational when people are rude dude to the fact theyre not used to it.

Sorry but London is an absolute dump and wouldn't wish living there on my worst enemy, horrible place, rude shallow people and everyone is obsessed with impressing similarly shallow people with how much cash they spend on day to day items.

Also the amount of non EU immigrants trying to change the way Brits live their lives annoys me.

Poles in the UK are great as they fit in well, don't try to force us to live by their set of rules, are generally hard working and easy going and don't blow up our buses and trains. From what i've seen the polish idea of a good time doesn't involve blowing up an airport or wearing a backpack full of explosives in a public place.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish immigrant in the UK. Ch. 2 - Stress [63]

This is what draws people over here, that lack of stress.

I don't know what job you do but we most certainly have stress, house prices are sky high rental prices are sky high and generally to live a decent quality of life you need to be clearing £20k annually if not life is hard.

You don't fret over the politics as much as we do,

Have you read the papers recently, thats all they seem to write about, MPs expenses, Labours incompentence.

It's not stress free for all of us. Especially with the nasty comments: not in the papers, not in the internet, but at work.

If people are being nasty to you at work then you should find something else, Theres no excuse for bullying in the work place and i can assure you the bullying isn't simply based on your nationality, The UK has been a multi cultural society for decades and we are used to accomodating people from different cultures. look at how many mosques have been built and how native people of the country aren't allowed to really say anything to people from different cultures for fear of being branded a racist.

you're not bombarded with Gazeta Wyborcza and TVN living in a state of permanent catastrophe

We have the daily mail and various news channels to keep telling us that our economy is fcuked.

Sorry but where do you get theses ideas from?

I agree with some aspects but I would say life is much more stressful in the UK than in Poland as more is expected of people ie be polite no matter what has gone wrong in your life, You are expected to make your fortune before you hit 30, You must have a luxury leather and wood lined expensive car on the drive, Your house must be perfect and paid for.

Roads I agree and we drive on the correct side of the road which makes things much better.

Life / Does anyone here know anything about fiat 126p's / maluchs? [7]

It seems to be coming out of the dipstick tube, the airbox is also full of oil to so I assumed a blocked breather, I need to fit a new exhaust soon as the one thats on there appears to have split an is blowing badly, I'll gunk it tomorrow and get to work, I still think a motorbike engine would be a better option :)

Food / Recipe for Kotlet Schabowy (in English) [15]

Really easy you need the pork cutlets,
A bag of bread crumbs
some beaten eggs
salt and pepper for seasoning

beat the sh it out of them with a meat hammer until they are flat about 3 - 4 mm thick,
Sprinkle them with salt and pepper
dip them into your beaten egg
put them on a flat surface and put them in the bread crumbs and keep pressing bread crumbs onto them until they are dry, (no wet egg or meat showing)

repeat with the egg and more breadcrumbs

and shallow fry slowly at medium heat until brown turning regularly.

really easy if i can manage them anyone can

Life / Poles that have lived or live abroad are they different? [68]

They seem to have less dire manners and smile occasionally as opposed to never at all, I guess their driving will have improved slightly too,

It does however **** me off when they moan about the standard of living in the UK having spent 6 months sharing a room with 6 other people and thus thinking they have an insight into how we live.

In britain its not normal to share a room with anyone except your wife or G/F let alone 6 other people.

Life / Poland not so cheap anymore!! [47]

If im going to try and have a lean month bearing in mind i dont pay rent im lucky to survive on 2500 PLN / month.

Life / Poland not so cheap anymore!! [47]

Lean is 2500, ive never actually added it up, i suppose the average is quite a bit more..

I don't find it that cheap anymore either but then its always a shock when i go back to the UK and realise that a good night out costs £150, cigarettes are at £7 a packet, fuels always going up,

we pay nearly 2000 pln to rent our place but bills are minimal and my girlfriend is very good at saving cash,

how come your heating is so much? one of the drawbacks of having a massive house i suppose, However I imagine living in a palace would be ace :)

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in UK. Ch. 3 - Food [93]

Milk is very bad, it tastes like water with some powder milk.

Polish milk is hideous its mostly UHT treated, at least ours comes from cows.

Pork is bad

Pork is bad everywhere you go, We're not really a pork eating nation as we mostly eat beef.

There's only one kind of chicken that resembles chicken, the yellow skinned outdoor reared chicken.

Same in Poland

Tesco's will be closed

All supermarkets are open till at least 8pm

Coming to a foreign country, I had to learn everything anew. Which bread is edible, which is good.

I had to do that, unfortunately bread is off our menu dude to all the polish variety's seeming to resemble asbestos.

Love / Why do Polish Women Think They Know Better? [134]

I really do find it disturbing the sheer lack of attention to detail when finishing a building over here, our place is only 10 months old or so and the walls look like they've been plastered by stevie wonder himself.

That said the builders here are fcuking quick, the house next door got insulated and rendered in less than a week, (still putting the insulation on the outside of the bricks seems utterly ridiculous)

Attention members and guests. Let's have the next post on topic, please.

Life / What is the nature of Polish people's hygiene? [76]

I do something along these lines but I do have a friend who seems to think taking a daily shower is strange and the use of antiperspirant and aftershave is somewhat homosexual, he seemed shocked at the amount of toiletries in my bathroom.

I have noticed that a lot of people here do shun personal hygiene and quite a few people seem to dispute the existence of antiperspirant not all but quite a lot seem to, Old people in every country smell of urine though.

Life / When on a Polish street you can see... [19]

drunks stumbling around, people spending their new found credit, shocking driving, stuck up girls with their massive noses in the air, pretty buildings in dire need of painting, trams on the same road as the cars, and the same shops as on every european high street

Life / Supermarkets in Poland not accepting card payments [12]

This is utterly ridiculous, me and the G/f went to do a weeks shopping in Biedronka of all places (we've been relegated from Auchan since the maluch caught fire :( ) thought that i'd pay for it on card as most normal people do only to be told that they don't accept cards,

How much business must they lose as a result of this?
