UK, Ireland / The paradox of Polish drivers getting car insurance in the UK [14]

Oh, and the fact that Polish men are still REAL MEN who have to prove their worth

I might spend every waking moment in the gym to get "tuned", walk like i've shat myself, black out the windows on my car and tailgate other road users then overtake in stupid places putting many people at risk just so I can stop 5 miles up the road to retrieve my CB aerial as it blew off.

Would that make me a real man? remind you of anyone :D?

What is the polish attitude that women are all bad drivers all about? They don't seem to have the ridiculous point to prove when driving that the males over here have. I would much rather get in a car driven by a polish female than a polish male.

UK, Ireland / The paradox of Polish drivers getting car insurance in the UK [14]

I paid £400 to insure my 205 gti when i passed my test, Living out in the sticks has some advantages, Now at 24 with a 7 series BMW i pay less than £300 with european cover through tesco, Giving the polish police your insurance document from tesco raises some eyebrows though as they told me that tesco was a supermarket :D

Have you tried insuring online through confused.com or insuresupermarket.com?

What type of car are you trying to insure? If your girlfriend is over 21 adrian flux would be a good bet as they specialise in specialist policies.

USA, Canada / Iranian moving to Poland from Canada. What to expect? [23]

What so they can laugh at your pronunciation?

I tried learning polish and they laugh at me for not being able to say some of their idiotic phrases, therefore i gave up Everyone i socialise with and do business with here in Poland speaks English therefore I speak english to everyone.

Polish people seem to find it amusing to see non poles speaking polish so why give them something to laugh at?

Travel / How do i stay in poland longer than 90 days if im already in poland [37]

I understand that the USA is even more strict, but we kind of have to be. People want to kill us. So we have to be careful.

The USA is a joke in terms of immigration, Even though Britain stands behind the US on all their ridiculous wars for oil they still won't let us come and visit without loads of ridiculous paperwork so much for the "special relationship" hey,

All we get in terms of thanks is loads of friendly fire killing our troops.

Life / Can you keep a right hand drive car in Poland? [57]

Has anybody had their right hand drive changed to a left. Currently driving around poland with my right hand drive and its really dangerous to be driving a right hand drive here i have so many near misses especally with over taking. Just want to hear from anyone that has converted over does it make the car less safe to drive and whats the story with the airbags? Thanks

It depends what sort of car it is, a lot of manufacturers make one shell for both RHD and LHD markets making the change easy and viable, When I looked at my old e36 m3 the shell looked unconvertable due to the bulkhead being of a soley lhd configuration and changing the bulkhead wouldn't be viable. As for airbags generally the passenger side wont fit due to it being a specific shape for the dash but steering wheel one should be fine, As for the safety aspect as with everything if done correctly then there should be no problem,

As a cheaper quick fix have you thought about mounting a small forward facing camera in your left hand side wing mirror with a live feed to a small screen ie one of those flip out lcd headunits or something? This would make overtaking safer and also allow you to keep the ergonomically superior RHD configuration. Would cost less than £150 to do to if your handy with a drill some wires and have a bit of patience.

Life / Why build a supermarket with 20 checkouts with only 3 till staff? [46]

This really pisses me off, the amount of times i've been to a shop got my shopping and just simply left it due to the massive queues and total disregard for the customers waiting to pay. I once waited 30 minutes in tesco to pay for something and the idea of actually shoplifting went through my mind which is strange because i've never stolen anything in my life. People must shoplift not because they can't pay for the good just simply because they can't wait.

The main thing i don't understand is they build all these checkouts in the supermarkets but only 2 or 3 are ever open no matter how busy the shop happens to be which seems crazy. I thought I could combat this by only shopping at night but this doesn't seem to help either as often there is only one till open.

If these shops calculated how much revenue they lose due to people simply leaving their shopping and going elsewhere surely it would make sense for them to employ more people and could also do away with the need for security guards as people would actually pay for their stuff.

anyone else got any views on this idiotic practice?

Life / On Street Parking Fees Baffle Me [11]

Just park anywhere, drop your suspension to the lowest setting thus rendering clamping impossible and ensure your car is on UK plates and don't worry about paying :D

Life / POLISH INSECTS CAN RUIN YOUR LIFE.... [27]

Go to the nearest A&E department, Its free, Your really should get it checked out and remember to take your passport and european health card if you have one. The hospitals in Poland seem to be very good and they helped me last year when i had problems,

Life / Driving License - B1 that allows 16 year old to drive light vehicles? [27]

Hopefully 16 year old Poles won,t have the money for a beast like this

Its a shame that lots of middle aged poles can afford powerful machines too, The amount of near death experiences i've seen people have on the roads this weekend boggles the mind.

Life / Driving License - B1 that allows 16 year old to drive light vehicles? [27]

Probably best to just wait a year and take your test in the UK and then you can drive whatever you like providing you can insure it, Is the limit on engine capacity or BHP like with the UK bike test?

Looking at the weight thing i reckon if you took the insides of the doors out just leaving the skin, the rear seats, chucked a set of decent motorsport wheels on, ie Compomotives, you could lose the excess weight and have something which would be quite fun to drive too,

As for registration I have no idea about the Polish system as I've never experienced it, I just know that they won't register perfectly safe RHD vehicles :(

Travel / Is it possible to hire a car long-term in Poland? [8]

I would go for one of the big firms, at least you know what you are getting ie safe and the chances are with a smaller firm is they will try to rip you off if you are a foreigner,

Life / Why do a lot of Polish people stare and why is good personal hygeine shunned? [108]

Obviously your mummy and daddy paid for it as that's all you need to do studying in the UK.

They did actually! well my mum did as my dad is deceased but I also worked whilst being a student, Something which students here can't comprehend.

lot of crap about their country

I had this exact same conversation yesterday, Poles go to England and come home saying how **** it is etc, tit for tat.

There are some things I quite like about Poland and some things I don't I spend 50% of my time here as its my job.

Again read the title and you will notice the word some. Doesn't take a lot to understand now does it.

You really make me laugh, No honestly you do. A civil question answered with a load of personal insults. Kudos to you.

Life / Why do a lot of Polish people stare and why is good personal hygeine shunned? [108]

That was quite possibly the best example of an over defensive response,

I'm not a doctor so I have no idea about these diseases and didn't profess to, You however did! Being clean cannot cause any diseases fact! (it might limit the bodies natural defences to bacteria but can't initiate culture growth)

I'm no better than the working class no you're quite correct but from the very limited information I have about you I can safely say I AM better than you due to the fact that I can have a civil conversation without going on the defensive.

Where in my original post did I say ALL people here smell?

Regarding your dog having a higher IQ than myself (136) I demand to see your research materials immediately as I think you may have got your sums wrong somewhat. (not saying that dogs are stupid before you get all up tight and over defensive about that too)

I'm not doubting the fact that you are clean and have perfect teeth I've never met you and can't judge. In general I like people here in Poland unfortunately there are narrow minded idiots like yourself who give other people a bad name (your response proves this). Maybe one day this will change.

I'm not spreading **** about your nation, just stating what I have observed in a similar manner as i was curious clearly I'm not the only person who noticed this judging by the other replies in the thread.

As for the great English education system, Yes it is great soon after graduating I landed a managerial position in a very large company in the UK so the system obviously works very well.

As for being a retard you don't even know who I am and being so pre judgmental won't get you very far in life at all.

Life / Why do a lot of Polish people stare and why is good personal hygeine shunned? [108]

Pretty much spot on,

It was a simple question asked politely and the number of over defensive and stereotypical comments just seems a bit over the top.

I was only wondering if it was culture differences etc thats all.

Go on, gel your hair so no one will see you didn't wash it for days :-)

BTW gel/ wax doesn't work properly unless your hair is clean hence washing it twice a day :)

Life / Why do a lot of Polish people stare and why is good personal hygeine shunned? [108]

Or maybe you just made up the whole story to make Polish people look bad? Tell you what, don't be jealous. Polish men are showering daily and smell amazing. <3

Its not made up at all, Its entirely based on what friends/colleagues have said to me and my experience. Its unfair to say that a whole country full of people smell but there seems to be a lot of people who do. I can't comment about public transport in other countries as I simply don't use it but in supermarkets etc It seems common practice to have to stand behind someone who smells potent whilst waiting to pay for something.

Regarding hair Gel hows it a working class boys thing? Seems to be a typical polish stereotype to me as most of the people I do business with on a daily basis in a professional capacity use hair products of some description and they are certainly not from the working class.

Life / Top 3 Most Important Things about which polish dentists will LIE to you bigtime [46]

I can point you in the way of a good dentist, She isn't the cheapest but is an absolute star and really honest. My family regularly fly over to be treated by her. She was recommended by a friend who has been using her since she was a child. £15 for a filling seems quite reasonable to me.

I think you were just unlucky as a lot of poles do charge extra for things when they see a foriegner as they assume we are wealthy.
