USA, Canada / Gas prices in America [127]

I'm sure glad that my older german car obtains around 30 mpg, and I also use my mountain bike for shopping under a few miles. Actually, I now have a few of my local friends joining me for it, it's rather fun to bike in a group.

Needless to say, my overweight friends are doing better healthwise, from it.

Checkmate, you're a funny person! The majority of us use NATURAL GAS to heat our homes in the USA, not electricity or oil.

History / What Happened in the Danzig Corridor 1939? Poles Slaughtering Germans? [133]

So, there's the answer...a run-in with an ex-Auschwitz 'inmate', as you call him, changed your views forever, Joe...

He wasn't an inmate, he was a PRISONER, without any tribunal, and forced to work or die. That type of thing will destroy any meek, mild mannered person, and toughen them up after what they all had to do, simply to survive.

And that's another point, that Makdaam made: Germans were also tossed into Concentration camps, when they didn't support Hitler! That is true, and there are records to back that up.

ANYONE who stood up to Hitler, was against him, in his syphilitic mind. Ergo, off to the camps you went.

I want to know - what is possessing those to post on THIS FORUM, the denial of the Holocaust, and the repercussions?

Many of us lost family members, and to continually put us through this is PURE SADISM. Knock it off, and get a life.

But then, if you were in a bar room full of Poles and Jews, you wouldn't be saying such garbage for real, now would you? That thought makes me smile.

"You can lead a horse to water - but you can't make him drink." This applies to this thread deeply.

Darius, he doesn't wish to get it...but in the names of my Ancestors, the dead shall NEVER be FORGOTTEN, no matter who they were, what they were. They were human beings, they lived, they MATTERED.

What the person above is in denial about, can never erase any of that.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Ah, Poland is NO longer a part of Russia anymore - hasn't been, since her independence nearly 2 decades ago...of course, that's stating the obvious.

And - most Americans DO know where Russia is - I've asked many times. Drummed into our heads, including where Moscow is early on.

Bah, why do I even bother on here, I wonder?? I thought we could talk without cutting others down...but then whatever I said next, no matter how sarcastic, would be taken as an insult.

I much prefer my international friends in real life - at least we actually have many things in common, instead of mindless bickering.

Love / My polish girlfriend has changed following death of dad.. [153]

You think you KNOW ME!? That 'hotshot producer' proposed to me, stole my heart...he had a best friend die, so I let him have time to cope...took him back 6 months later. Why ELSE would I date him a second round? I was in LOVE!! Why else would I bring it up? Similar circumstance - thank you for making small of my circumstance.

And the turkey still pines over that belt, though we dated over 10 years ago...at least I have the continuous last laugh with him.

Love / My polish girlfriend has changed following death of dad.. [153]

You give me a gift - it's mine, no matter how expensive or cheap ass it is!

I had a hotshot millionaire producer from Hollywierd give me a 'Batgirl' belt. After we broke up the 2nd time, he had the audacity to ask for it back! Never mind the $1000 bottle of wine I left in his fridge, etc. That was a gift, and I've NEVER asked for gifts back that I've given to anyone myself! Hope he enjoyed the whine, to go with his cheese.

I still have that silly leather bat belt, lol.

Moral of story: NEVER EXPECT BACK GIFTS. I don't care if it cost me $1, $10, $100, $1000, or $10,000. I simply cut my financial attachment from it, and smile whenever I see the person wear it.

Heck, I went through one of my jewelry boxes with a male friend of mine last night, because he was curious about the history behind some pieces. The box I pulled out wasn't the expensive one - it was the one that had meaning.

Glad she's feeling better, but please, never corner anyone, especially when it comes to gifts! It cheapens the meaning, and the relationship.

Oh, and the guy I got the 'Batgirl' belt from? People who know me, I simply point out how many Emmy's he's won, but he can't have that belt or ME, lol. That shall be in an interesting part of my life memoirs - I should right them, gets pretty funny or sad at times. But mostly silly.

Law / Making proper sausages (ex-pat expers in Poland)? [32]

Ahhh, I found a Polka Deli just up the street, my oh my! I dropped enough money to feed 5 adults for two days, and just had goodies for a bit. Finishing off the last bits now.

History / Stolen heritage of Kievian Rus'. [22]

I was joking, but it appears that feature button fails often on here, along with my sarcasm.

I said what I really meant, though - but alas the great Lithuana-Polish Commonwealth shan't ever rise again (unless lots of people want it, not just moi).

History / Stolen heritage of Kievian Rus'. [22]

Pass the popcorn.

None of this is ever going to rebuild the Lithuania-Polish Commonwealth, EVER. Of course, I would wish to see it, and parts of the Ukraine brought back in.

But it isn't going to happen; countries that have become ripped asunder, can't be brought back together.

Just ask Saddam Hussein about that one, eh?

News / What do Polish friends think of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton? [226]

Why wouldn't people vote for a woman? It happens all the time in other countries!
I firmly believe both of them on the ticket is the way to victory for the Democratic Party - who cares which is VP or P.

I know many of my friends have thought of moving to Canada or other countries, if McCain is elected!

History / What Happened in the Danzig Corridor 1939? Poles Slaughtering Germans? [133]

Say WHAT!? My family members at Auschwitz NEVER DENIED the gas chambers or ovens there!!

The Nazis attempted to dismantle much, as they moved out, and burned buildings to the ground. Remnants were found. I also used to employ a gentleman in the '90s, who was used to prove or disprove the gas chambers there. He told me they ushered him into a replica, and he told them that no way would any residue show up, nor on any reconstruction!

THAT is what much of the "new alleged facts" are based upon, and of course they aren't going to show any truth.

12 million Poles died, on top of the Jews imported from other places. Not all died in the camps. Polish leaders and intellectuals were dispatched at Katyn!

Let's stay with facts, not the distorted crud people are parading out there...as I recall my great-cousin Alka's tatoos on her wrist. I trust what she said, combined with my best friend from grade school. Her parents were Orthodox Jews, survivors from Auschwitz - I was told much, by all of the above people.

What we see today is NOT what necessarily what existed back then!

By the way, on that page someone posted...if they didn't have the gas chambers, then why is there a photo of a can of ZYKLON GAS!? That is what was used in the gas chambers, where it released upon exposure to air, Hydrogen Cyanide.

Ergo, that page DOES show evidence of gas chambers: lower right

I rest my case for the 18 million dead...

History / Should Russia pay compensation claims for the families "Stalin" removed? [27]

Celinski is correct: if Russia accepts responsibility, then healing can begin. Denial only makes a fool out of the current Russian Regime.

If Russia does finally apologize, then it is true: a trusting relationship can begin to grow, between Russia and the Ukraine. Neighbors should be there to cover each others backs, NOT tear each other apart!

Celinski's family and my family were directly affected by WW2, and mine by WW1. But more than anything, I would like the healing to begin, in MY LIFETIME!

Yes, betrayals were by another generation - so, let the NEW generation jump start the healing, so we can let our beloved family members, who lay in unmarked mass graves finally...finally rest in peace, and our hearts be made light.

That is what is desired, instead of the dregs of the vicious regime pretending none of it ever happened. My great-grandfather dying, my great-aunts, great-uncles murdered just because, and all those family members who I never got to know, simply because they were intelligent, and powerful. Thank God they got many family members out in two waves, but still paid the ultimate price with their lives.

I'll never get the image of my grandmother, reliving what happened to her out of my mind, when she was in her mid-'90s, until this is done and over.

Rest peacefully, Babka...it will happen, dear one. You and the others are all in my heart, never forgotten.

Love / My polish girlfriend has changed following death of dad.. [153]

It took me two years to fully accept my father's death...in that time period, I had horrible dreams, that every thing was fine, that I'd just dreamed he was dead, and there he was - happy, healthy, and teasing me about the waking nightmare.

Then, I'd wake up in his home, and reality would hit me each and every day, that he was DEAD.

I was in a relationship, that I was patching up with the man I loved...and he stood by me initially. I needed him to just be a close friend. A year later, I asked him to marry me (we'd been dating me for 8 years, I finally forgave him for cheating on me). I asked him to move to Southern California with me, and start over. I wanted it to be just he and me.

Sadly, he said, "I can't be a small fish in a bigger pond," and thus ended our relationship. That devastated me on top of my father's death - and then I lost 3 cousins to a 16 year old drunk driver - when their mother tried to talk sense into him.

ALL you can do, is just be there. Don't expect sex - just be a good friend. In the present day, I've lost 17 friends in the last 2 years, and struggling to accept it.

There's only way that has given me any sense of peace, over the last 2 years, especially over losing one of my closest friends and cousins - give the pain and grief over to God. Not easy, but I can't keep wallowing in the pain and the agony of the moment.

I need to live, I need to breathe, and go on. Those who have departed want me to do that, and to keep breaking down every minute would be disrespectful to their memory.

But I do think about them every day, but do my best to turn it to happy moments, not the last moments of their lives.

That is all I can tell you, being a "Polock" myself.

History / Some names to the faces of brave Poles during WW2 German Invasion [24]

I am sorry, TripTic. Thank you for sharing this, his first wife and two children.

I am only now learning Polish, and I did save that link. I see the map and such, and the names.

That was one thing that I saw in that transcript, that the Police helped.

Thank you for coming forward, and sharing this, about your grandfather's first family, and the 360 villagers who were slaughtered. May they never be forgotten, may this never happen again!

History / How long was Poland "lost in history"? [21]

Poland has always been here...just occupied. Now that's a funny one to think of. When Japan was occupied, it was said, "Occupied Japan". I have dish sets that say made during that time, even a child's tea set!

But other countries tried to swallow Poland whole...didn't work out.

History / WW2: Britain Declares War on Germany to Save Poland [290]

I feel that England meant to save Poland, as did America and others...but in the end, we all failed her, when we allowed Russia to invade and possess Poland. All that fighting, death, for what? The war was won, but the FIGHT WAS LOST!

Life / What kind of antiques are popular in Poland? [49]

outintheyard, did you tell your mom you'd like to have those items!? Johnny Depp isn't anyone special, just an actor. But, your mom can also just RENT the items to them, and request them back, if they aren't destroyed, and ask for a PREMIUM for replacement, if they are destroyed!!

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

Ditto, Matthias!

Bratwurst, it doesn't matter what nationality they are; as long as they do their best at being a World Leader. Being a Pope is very difficult, because it's being the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, and thus much more is expected out of them right out of the gate! The Pope is like a conscience, to the evil, genocidal governments that way, without being political, I suppose.

I hope to see the end of Genocide in my lifetime.

History / Some names to the faces of brave Poles during WW2 German Invasion [24]

But finally, finally free now. I just wish so many of those who endured nearly a century of nightmares could feel the freedom. I hope they are smiling down from above, and know that their descendants, Poland's children at home and abroad, are doing something to keep her free this time. This is why some of us keep reminding the world of the travesties, not to keep reliving the nightmares - but to keep them from happening again. History is terrible about repeating its mistakes, unless learned from.

Long live Poland!

I find this sooo important of a read, because it shows that every day people were tortured at the drop of a hat, solely on the whims of any German Soldier, not just the Gestapo!

In my history classes in the US, even in college, the focus was on the Genocide of Jews. This paper is so very important, in that it reveals the true focus: Genocide of ALL POLES! The Nazis equally defiled the churches and synagogues, and all the Priests and Rabbis, along with all the intellectuals, local leaders, even that 70 year old mayor who was crippled! They tossed him onto the pile of bodies last, and dispatched him there.

I had to simply shut out the horrors to sleep last night; I haven't had to do that since High School.

Whereas I knew much of my grandmother's family was in Auschwitz, I now see all Poles and not the 1/3 of the Jewish population I was told that perished; 18 million Poles were MURDERED, and I sure as hell don't see any NATIONAL Monument to them!! Just to the 6 million Jews.

This is a wrong that must be righted in History! All those Poles were Martyred. I knew some of the techniques used to kill the prisoners in the past, but the sheer Sadism exhibited...the Nuremburg Trials only caught a fraction of the murderers. I am at least glad that the killers, though old men now, are still being brought to justice, even if Israel are the ones pressing charges.

I'm still wrapping my mind around all this. See, I knew in theory it was true; I had a Catholic Priest in grade school, who was a child in WW2, and then was tortured by the Communists, before he escaped. He told us the milder versions of torture he endured, which was being hung upside down, water poured into his nostrils, and choking on it.

"According to a deposition that reached us from Lancut (Southern Poland), 5,000 war prisoners were held in a country house park. A cold rain fell day and night. The men were forced to keep on their feet and were famished. Their moans were heart-rending. Count Potocki, proprietor of the park, and the inhabitants of the town of Lancut, did all in their power to provide food for this multitude who had not tasted anything for several days. Each morning the bodies of many who had succumbed to these hardships were removed."

In doing research on my family tree, I ran across this article, which is from a book. Count Jan Roman Potocki AND the locals of Lancut risked much, in helping those prisoners!

I think that's the one thing pervading the entire war inside of Poland: people CARED, and DARED to try and help! Even the Nazis admired the tenacity of the Poles. I can't say how I feel, with these newly discovered layers of inhumanity of the German soldiers. On top of that, either your German/Polish neighbors died with you, or turned against you, and became part of your death! I can't imagine living in that time of nightmares.

I suppose I should have posted a rather inflammatory thread title, to get people hot under the collar...seems to be the only way to have people participate in a discussion on here.

SAD. Very sad.

History / Some names to the faces of brave Poles during WW2 German Invasion [24]

It is long, heartbreaking, and yet you can see that Poland was filled to the brim with Martyrs, during the German Invasion and Occupation during WW2. Starved, beaten, humiliated, they never gave in. Many German Poles stood up, only to die like fellow Poles, rather than join in the wholesale slaughter.

Read on, with a brave heart...

I concur with Matthias pretty much.

Unfortunately, teenagers' lives are more run by hormones that they should be...which is why they need to be monitored more by honest adults, not predator types (ones who take advantage of them, male or female).
