Law / Poland: the most attractive European country for future investors [55]

In my opinion this phenomen is related to old Polish mathematic tradtitions continued after the war. Now there is possibility to use it in comercial purposes.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_School_of_Mathematics

Historical Influences
Over the centuries, Polish mathematicians have influenced the course of history. Copernicus used mathematics to buttress his revolutionary heliocentric theory. Four hundred years later, Marian Rejewski - subsequently assisted by fellow mathematician-cryptologists Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski - in December 1932 first broke the German Enigma machine cipher, thus laying the foundations for British World War II reading of Enigma ciphers ("Ultra"). After the war, Stanisław Ulam showed Edward Teller how to construct a practicable hydrogen bomb.

History / Russian achievements versus "Polish" zilch. [57]

(my post to Seanus was very personal)

It was actually polish invention(Stanisław Ulam), kerosene Lamp (£ukasiewicz)

I don't know if this names stick to this discussion :) with Russians.

Anyway truth should be said:

Both have done a lot for Poland. Stanisław Ulam was great Pole with Jewish roots. £ukasiewicz was great Pole with Armenian roots.

Armenians are one of my favourite ethnic groups in our history.

There was Polish saying that Greek can be only ripped off by Jew and Jew can be only ripped off by Armenian. (in trade).

Most of Poles with Arenian roots are now Ukrianians. Still some are present in our country.

Famous priest trying to solve misteries of secret police durring communism esp. when it comes to Catholic Church.

History / Russian achievements versus "Polish" zilch. [57]

I am in good mood :)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polonium

Also tentatively called "Radium F",polonium was discovered by Marie Skłodowska-Curie and her husband Pierre Curie in 1898[16] and was later named after Marie Curie's native land of Poland (Latin: Polonia), and not for the Hamlet character, Polonius. Poland at the time was under Russian, Prussian, and Austrian partition, and did not exist as an independent country. It was Curie's hope that naming the element after her native land would publicize its lack of independence. Polonium may be the first element named to highlight a political controversy

History / Ryszard Kukliński - Polish hero CIA spy durring cold war [12]

Stalin tried like heck, I didn't know he had cows? ;)

Poland was his cow ;)

Is this guy really thought of as a hero in most circles?

IMO yes. Majority of Poles wanted Soviet defeat. In nuclear conflict there was no difference between American or Soviet nuclear bombs. There would be no Poland.

News / Thank you Ireland... EUCCP [81]

ust admit that you are not a democrat. This is my task in this thread, to expose pro-EU hypocrites one after another. I can write, mission accomplished! :)

I am democrat and if Irish want to stay on this level of integration we can make europe with different levels of intgration.

What is more I am sure that Poland will be in this more integrated part (look on polls with support). (I'm closer to bb than it was)

Open your mind yourself, imperialism always turn against the people sooner or later.

What kind of impreialism ? I don't want Europe conquering Africa. I want Europe being able for competition.

News / Thank you Ireland... EUCCP [81]

Have you anything to say about EUcrats refusing to recognize a third referendum in a row? Or empty slogans are everything you can afford?

open your mind ... look on bigger picture.

Lets avoid this referendum.

We are not in 1900s when every bigger european country could conquer rest of world. The problem was only with other european competitors.

India, China, Arab world are much stronger. Without successful EU every european country will be loster. What is more Poland is going to be one of the biggest losters.

News / Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan [92]

News / Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan [92]

But you are right we have another a bit softer view on the Russians (Yeltsin and Gorbi) :)

Poles don't have bad view on Yeltsin and Gorbi. They weren't so bad. ;)

PS: Admit! You wanna get me drunk here! :):):)

Like Yeltsin :)

Going back to being rebel. Poles making strikes/riots/protests all the time. Military fighting against Russians and commies to 1950s. Had some achievements. Polish land haven't been fully confiscated by government. We had some western press, even Coca Cola lol. Opositionists form other commie countries were traveling to poland to get informations form all over the world.

Look what happend with confiscated by government land. Western Germans came to Eastern and bought it for small cash. In other countries it was very similar ... or first elites bought it for small money or foreigners. Rebel Poles owe it to this day or sold it for market price. We have seen what have happend with land confiscated by commies ... later it was robbed ...

so being rebel Pole wasn't that bad. :)

lol :)

Not to mention of the church???

Catholic priests were one of the biggest collaborators ... it is true.
In 1950's special trained secret police agents were going on theological seminary. Many priests were secret agents just form the begining. I agree horrible.

You better not open this can of worms!

we can agree that communism sucked.

Going back to Reagan. Germans have different view of him than Poles. When communism colapsed you decided to pay Russians to make their soldiers leave your country. We gave Jeltisn vodka and drunk Russian president agreed to move Russians soldiers from Poland (mentioned by you Walesa have done it).

I agree nuclear war would destroy both Germany and Poland.

(Especially not accusing others of! No german would try to clear up the GDR past with pointing a finger to another country...)

I wasn't my aim. Germans Poles Czechs Hungarians know how it was ... Communism in Poland was much different form German or Romanian ... not to mention Soviet Union.

I never heard of a real deep research of the communist past in Poland (to the contrary in the ex-GDR).

I have seen reportage in TV with some specialists. I will look for some documentation ... :) It is well known fact that Germans were the biggest denunciators in commie satelite countries.

It always sounds as if some foreign bad commies opressed the "poor, brave" Poles...

Without Russians we would never be commie ... look on war in 1920 (Germans blocked transports with weapons from France to Poland ) in Polish - Soviet war.

Why we haven't joned Soviet union in 1939 ?

because we had border with Soviets and we knew what does communism mean.

PPS: But you're right with one thing, Germans are not the rebels! :)
(To much fuss!)

So stop talking about bad Nazi regime (choosen in elections)

:)

PS: The soviet Empire was fading out already without Reagan's help. And if not the wish for a change had been strong inside the people no outside pressure would/could have changed something one yota.
Give the Russians their credits!

Military race was perfect idea. Reagan's star wars were awsome.

We would live in commie country a little bit longer. .. lets say to 2001. Without preassure on Russians

There are funny stats ...

In eastern Germany in every 10 Germans one was secret police denunciator.

in Poland in every 1000 Poles one was secret police denunciator ...

there is difference

Bratwurst communism was imposed on Poland

I like one of famous Stalin quotations.

" Stalin said that imposing Communism on Roman Catholic Poland was as absurd as putting a saddle on a cow"

There were Polish commies ... the same as eastern German commies. Still this system wasn't our ... and without Russians we wouldn't have communism in Poland.

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

We are new I EU. We know rules we have here. It seems that before we joined this organisation, somebody established rule that everybody have to agree on some deals.

It seems that Ireland used this option.

So somebody haven't respected their fears.

and they are old member.

not new ...

we need to find other solution.

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

EU is good idea, but this treaty/constitution was written in way that the bigest countries would be oligarchs. Whole deal was on cost of small countries.

Poland wouldn't be in the worst situation after this deal. Still it was very harming treaty for countries like Ireland.

Maybe smaller steps are better ?

We have the same fears, I believe we are going to find solution and EU will move forward.
