Language / Nice way to say the name? [22]

Some also say Gośka, but to me that doesn't sound nice, just like Kryśka, Zośka, Wieśka, Kaśka. Sounds like someone is yelling and mad at you.

Love / Why are Polish girls constantly ill? [166]

People in Poland eat too much fattening food such as szmalec, fat kiełbasa and many have liver problems because of too much cholesterol. I have seen a few guys out jogging in Poland but never a woman.

Food / Anyone familiar with Placek bread with raisins? [7]

It's called a placek drożdowy. Here's a recipee but it's in grams so might need to convert to normal measures.

Ingredients for dough:

500 g flour
50 g yeast
1 glass milk
100 g butter
3 egg yolks
1 egg
100-150 g sugar
50 g raisins
1 sugared vanilla
1/2 lemon skin
salt

Topping:

100 g flour
60 g butter
50 g sugar
2 spoons cinamon
Preperation:
1.make the dough from the ingredients above
2.knead the crumbles, meaning mix the flour with sugar and cinamom, add melted fat and quickly knead so it forms small crumbs .
3.Flatten the dough and place into a baking dish then spread beaten egg and put the crumbs on top. Set aside to grow, then bake for about 50 minutes.

Don't know what temperature. Didn't say

There are different ways of making the placek, here is another one translated from Polish and if you add 0.1 oz more of something I don't think anyone will notice...

Ingredients:
2.2 lbs flour
0.14 oz yeast
1 cup milk
.35 oz butter
.5 oz cukru
4 egg yolks
salt
1 tspoon vanilla
Mix yeast with sugar and warm milk, add 1/3 flour, mix, set aside to rise. Mix egg yolks with sugar. When dough doubles add the yolks, salt, vanilla and mix, add melted butter and set aside to rise. Put in a baking dish, you can put plums, cherries or other fruit on top. Bake 390 for 55 min

Life / Swine flu vaccinations taking place in Poland? [52]

People are getting swine flu everywhere around here. It's not that bad as they say it is but people are panicking because they're dumb. The regular flu is much worse, last longer, stomach aches and you throw up. The pig flu you just get a temp, sick for a few days and not so hard on you as the reg. flu. The shots won't prevent u from getting it either, it just injects foreign bodies into you and many more people get sick from the flu shot than the flu itself, but it's not publicized.

Life / Swine flu vaccinations taking place in Poland? [52]

Flu shots - YES or NO will always be debatable.
I don't take them, neither do my friends and family and we never get the flu.
Canadian front page news on flu vaccinations has transfixed Canada health authorities, prompting official suspension of regular flu vaccination programs until further notice. This comes from a study of Canada by research Doctors Danuta Skowronski of the British Columbia Centre of Disease Control and Gaston De Serres of Laval University in Quebec concluding Canadians receiving flu vaccinations have twice the risk of coming down with the flu, compared to those who do not take the shot.

Lie #2 - The swine flu is more dangerous than seasonal flu

And that's what I was saying. Several people I know came down with this virus and they are laughing at it!! They can get over the counter medications for it, if needed. I'm waiting for it to get me, but so far I have been unsuccessful for any kind of flu. Which sucks, because then I can sit home and watch TV all day.

you'll see infected people everywhere around you - believe me.

There are infected people already, but the swine flu has less complications than the common flu. And why inject junk into your body to fight off something you might never end up getting? then all those chemicals and foreign antibodies live in you. Your body then relies on this "foreign body" and in the meantime becomes weaker because of it and you become more suspectible for other diseases.

Love / PreMarital sex and Polish women or maybe all women [46]

i have heard relationships like upto 3 years without sex in Poland also.

Nothing strange about that. I was going out with my boyfriend for 7 years and never had sex, until I married. Every person is different and a marriage shouldn't be based on a used rag, but something new and wonderful.

It's a personal moral belief, no matter where you live.

Life / Polish Kids - Polish speaking? Bilingual? only English? [56]

If they want to, they can learn it later

Yes, but if you don't introduce children to another language before the age of 8, they will speak with an accent and won't be able to pronounce the words properly. The sooner the better. Childrens' minds are liks sponges, as they get older it is more difficult to properly learn a foreign language.

Food / Horsemeat, anyone? [62]

It's legal here in the US and horses get sold at auctions to slaughterhouses. They ship the meat overseas because Americans don't eat horse.

Yes and No.
yes, some horses are sold at auctions in the US, they are usually located behind the barns in a kill pen. However, it is now illegal to slaughter horses in the US. They are being shipped live into Canada, where the French Canadians slaughter and eat them.

I have saved several of these "kill" horses. It's sad because one of those horses I rescued was a 16 years thoroughbred race horse. She was very skinny, only 16 but useless to the breeder. I had her for 4 month untill she suffered a cardiac arrest.

The American public refused to buy dog food containing horse meat and won the battle, so it not served to dogs either.

Life / Swine flu vaccinations taking place in Poland? [52]

My friend got the regular flu 2 weeks ago, and is still recovering from it. My brother got the pig flu 3 days ago, and he's over it.

I think people get those flus mixed up and when they die, they blame it on the pig..

Food / Horsemeat, anyone? [62]

This is Summer whom I rescued from a kill pen. Such a great horse but so neglected. Horses deserve better than to be eaten by humans. It's almost like canibalism.
