Life / Free shopping in Asda [17]

on the grapevine. i don't know if it's true i was hoping one of you guys had heard it too. imagine all the money that a greedy, money-grabbing corporation like wal-mart would lose giving away shopping for free too, even if it is to minorities :S

Language / oddcast (spoken words in Polish) [3]

Hi everyone :) I've seen a lot of threads about Polish learners asking how to pronounce things phonetically, and rather than post this on the end of all those threads I thought I'd put it here for all to see! This website is a godsend especially for people like me who are still trying to grasp the sounds :) enjoy! oddcast.com/home/demos/tts/tts_example.php?sitepal

Language / Polish Language Pronunciation - Example Words and Phrases [220]

I wouldn't say that, especially not with Britain being the way it is now. There are government guidelines on how many foreign, disabled, female, ethnic and older workers they need to have to meet equality laws. Even if there are none of these people applying the companies still have to find them to keep out of trouble! Daft, I know.

UK, Ireland / Polish woman shot in London. [57]

An armed police officer wouldn't have prevented the recent deaths that I have read about.

But a lot less people would dare to buy guns and shoot people on the street in broad daylight, don't you think? It happens a lot, I read about it, hear it in the news etc etc.

As for capital punishment, does anyone here remember the death of 2 year old James Bulger, who was killed by two 10 year old boys? His body was so badly mutilated that his mother was not allowed to see him. They have now been let free, given plastic surgery (on the NHS!!) and new names. People defend them and say they were young etc, but they were old enough to know what they were doing, and the difference between life and death. Also, if they did this at 10, what will they be capable of now?! They should have been shot right then, right there. For those of you who don't know the story, here's the link. Now tell me no to capital punishment.

UK, Ireland / Polish woman shot in London. [57]

UK was supposed to have no guns except for the police.

Our police aren't allowed guns. This is so stupid!!!! Bring back capital punishment, get the police SOME form of arms and our streets would be a bit safer, don't you agree? This happens all too often x

Travel / Poland for 2.5 weeks in Winter [5]

My friend recently visited Poland, he says that the salt mines were really good and he also went to a concentration camp (the name escapes me) which he says was interesting from a history point of view but so hearbreaking at the same time. However, if history interests you it might be an idea, beware, you may cry! x

Language / Accent marks in Polish language [22]

I know what you mean, in French the accents can be taken away for capitals, but for languages like German and Polish where they are part of the letter, they have to stay even for caps :) x
