Love / I'm upset - you encourage foreigners to take the Polish women away [94]

No too bad thanks Miranda, how's yourself?

It's Welcome to Wales in welsh yep....afaik it's pronounced Cross-o e Gum-re but don't believe this Sais (Englishman) I just lived there for a few years, so am no where near qualified enough to know for sure. hehe :)

edit: Answer to your other question: It's Both (Grammatical thing i think) :)

Really??...i dunno i go away for a few days and look what happens! :) I've not really read all the old posts, i could sense the hostility as i was logging in :)

Ah, don't take a break. says he, having just returned from a mini sabbatical we'd miss you and that great avatar!

It is interesting, the only welsh i know is what i picked up off the the streetsigns. The usual like Araf (slow) Ysgol (school) and my favourite Plastig (Bet ya can't guess that one!) :)

It's a great language, my driving licence is in Welsh, the looks on the faces of the Polizei when they see that is priceless! :)

I read somewhere you were a Trekkie too.

I wouldn't boldly go that far, but that's just me splitting infinitives! :)

How are you finding Austria?

Not bad actually. It's a really safe place to live, the weather in the summer is fantastic (If you like the heat) and it's GREAT in the winter (if you like the cold!) It's a bit on the expensive side, but that's thanks to the €uro, but overall, i'll be sad to leave. (Though i really do hate vienna!) My advice, avoid like the plaque! :)

The Austrians themselves are a singularly xenophobic lot though, has to be said. Still, they're quite simple in their tastes and usually placated by small amounts of sausage...that didn't come out right! :) hehe

So, how you doing anyway, things still seem to be getting you down? :(

A broken heart...

ahh :( Know the feeling.
Must be the time of year. Hey, to paraphrase robbie williams...once the heart's broken, there is nothing left to break. (I think there is a message in there somewhere!)

I'd offer to sing, but that might just add to your troubles! hehe

No seriously, if you would like to talk, send me an email, i'll tell you mine, if you tell me yours and all that! But you have to go first! :)

as a brit, my people might not have suffered under his hands

i'm a brit too and I live in Hitler's home town. I only need to jump on a bus to Mauthausen concentration camp not 10 mins out of the city in order to witness what an intelligent man he was! I don't need to see staged pictures of him glad handing small children in a poor attempt to show him as some kind of man of the people.

--------

If admin wishes to allow people to post pictures of hitler then that's up to him/them, but the same behavior here in Austria would probably get you a visit from the police.

------

In about 20-50 years when it may be possible for a computer script to determine who is on a picture a member is uploading, we will surely ban such pictures before they are uploaded. But today it's not possible to know that until the picture has actually been uploaded :)

Applied criminology. You mean they didn't accept you straight away. :)

No, fair play to you, a friend of mine did criminology, she did her disertation on the german cannibal. Tough course.

I went to Chester, not quite as elustrious! Nice place, great fun but i know the debt we get saddled with is rediculous. I reckon i'll be dead long before student loans ever get the whole sum back! :)

Eng. Lit and German and believe me the third (fourth in my case) year is the hardest, no late night parties that's for sure.

edit sorry mate, didn't see your other posts. Crazy is the word i'd use. They want you to study, but at the same time, almost cripple you financially for the pleasure. Almost like they only want the ones that can afford it, to get on in life.

Case of words not matching actions, as always with governments. :)

Please refresh my memory of what happened when the British Military came here back around 1776.

hehe you mean the battle of long island, where we captured new york? :)

Just messing with you Jim. Gun laws are tighter than a duck's arse here. Not that it helps, the crims don't really check up on gun law before they decide to get tooled up.

Basically, it's section 1 shotguns (not pump action or semi auto) and air rifles and even those only when you can provide a good reason, when applying for the licence. There are also plans to restrict shotgun ownership too. Everything else is prohibited.

As for knives. I think the law as it stands is: you're caught carrying anything pointy, then it's classed as being in possesion of an offensive weapon and unless you have a v good reason for having it, you're in line for a fine and/or imprisonment.

The problem is Magic, Hitler needed to get boots on the ground, and that meant Seelöwe had to work and for that he needed not only Aerial supremacy but Naval supremacy too, which he never had.

2kt Rhine barges lumbering across the channel would have been easy targets for the destroyers and even if by some freak of nature the invasion had got a foothold, the beach heads would have been targeted mercilessly and resupply would have been virtually impossible by sea thanks to the RN's presence. In essence 260,000 Germans lost along with untold materiel.

The actual air war was a victory for the RAF and you cannot question the bravery of the pilots (including the Poles, Czechs, free French and the numerous others) and their skill but the real victory was the boost in Morale. It gave the British something to believe in after Dunkirk (end of the beginning etc etc) . it marked the first real defeat of the german forces and greatly shifted US public opinion, which at the time was somewhere around: 'they didn't think Britain had a hope in hell of surviving.' :)

If you ever get chance, watch Hitler's Britain if you want to see a recreation of a 'what if' Britain had been invaded. Scary stuff.

Actually, as an after thought. Have you ever seen Dark Blue World?

I went to see it at the cinemas when it came out. I had the cinema to myself. *shakes head* Of course, the screen next to mine was showing star wars, which was packed out.

A truly great film...

i couldnt imagine the Uk taking up the Euro. Everyone is against it.

Ever noticed the similarities between the 2 pound coin is and the 2 euro coin? Coincidence?

Britian will definitely have the euro one day and imho the sooner the better.

Then again, i've been here in Austria long enough now that I even think in €.. and it is such a hassle changing money when i want to go back home!! So maybe i'm biased.

The way I see it is: we are in the EU and if we're serious about membership, we can't just pick and choose the bits we like. We either get in and get fully behind the idea or we leave.

As for prices rising. I'm afraid that probably will happen, even if the politicians say it won't.
Can only speak for Austria, but the price rises have been happening ever since the Euro was introduced. More from unscrupulous shop owners than anything else. Tagging on 10 cent here, 20 cent there, just in order to round the prices up is easy and very temping. 3€ sounds so much better than 2.80€

RAF, and what’s more, also the Polish pilots that served in it’s squadrons during the WWII was being diminished

Not in the slightest. Actually, as you may have noticed, the BoB is one of the areas of history that really interests me. (second only to the UBootkrieg and the 1st world war) One of the most impressive "British" squadrons was that of the "glory boys" 303. I'm going from memory here, but what was it, 200 (100+ in BOB) kills. Amazing.

Actually, something i've always wanted to know and perhaps i may finally find out... what did their nickname mean, if anything? "Rafałki"
