Travel / Camping in Poland - are there any laws? [47]

Here we go JockScot try this site you may find it useful.

camperpark.pl/main.php?lang=en&country=1&type=1

Although directed at motorhomes tents are aloud in all sites.

Just returned from a motorhome trip to the south-east, close to 4,000 miles round trip in one month.Motor homes are a good way to get around but not many around in Poland.

I had no problems with wild camping although camping in the forests are not recommended because there are a few nutters with guns and knives around.

Only used a oficial campsite once just to charge the batteries and catch up with some laundry. The thing to remember is if you don't feel it's safe don't do it.

currencyconverter.uk.com/jump/ggo.html

6.94PL to the BP Sterling That's a good rate, My eye's bulged and I filled my pockets with holliday cash.....now is the time to get my spending money being due to travel to a family wedding.

Spent 2 hours around every bank, cantor, travel agent and post office, all claim to update the rates daily but best I could get is 4.5 sommat to the pound...Last weeeks rate.

Rates have been adjusted for the Dollar and Euro but the Złoty is out in the cold.

Kept my money in my pocket for the time being..hope they may adjust the rate when they have finished counting the bonuses.... :0)

Travel / Wizzair cancelling flights [23]

I've flown with WizzAir several times having just paid the taxes +£1.00 great but this can't go on with falling paseger numbers.
It's just a case of basic buissiness economics, they have to cut back just the same as everyone else in order to survive the next 12 months .

Travel / Advice on accommodation in Poland - Warsaw, Gizycko, Ostroda [3]

So, my advice is, always try to get private lodgings. In tourist towns look for the words NOCLEGI, POKOJE and suchlike.

In general I can but echo what has been said.

I also prefer pentionat, agroturistica and guest houses, these are much more welcoming and landadies do want to spoil you.

Also found most motels are good value especialy if you need a one night stop on the road to whearever.

The ones to view before you agree are the NOCLEGI offers, in general migrant workers occupy these as cheap lodgings and can be a little too basic but O.K. for a place to flop....:0)

Food / Top food products you'd want to see in a Polish shop [32]

The cheese I've seen in Polish shops over here is generally rubbish.
LEARN ABOUT CHEESE, YOU POLES, PLEASE!

you'r right about that.....just returned from Poland and that was one of the items that we realy could not find A GOOD CHEESE..

Apart from country cheese the rest seem to be all processed cheeses in variety.

What good is my ogórek without a hard cheese :0)

UK, Ireland / UK bus company boss jailed for hiring an incompetent Pole [71]

I live in the area, and in fact I know one of the directors involved,he has run a bus company a few hundred yards from mine. That firm went to the wall some years ago. the guy is very draconian to say the least and a definate chancer, this time he has come unstuck allong with his partner who seems to be just as reckless,(birds of a feather stick together as they say).

They desrved what they got, unfortunately this type of person are like a massive oil slick and never seem to go away.

Travel / Renting vehicles and maps in Poland [11]

Im looking at renting a Vehicle for this drive, Particularily a BMW Z4, or an AUDI sports car of some kind.

Sounds like a high risk rental to me .............You could keep on driving, or have it stolen to order............

UK, Ireland / The Daily Mail's Swans Are Back [29]

remains of the illegally slaughtered royal birds beside the River Lea in east London.

Never eaten a swan but I was once at a wedding in Inverary Scotland and was informed that every now and then one of the local swans would go missing.

But only on very special occations.....apparenty they are a good meal.

Food / Kishke, kaszanka [35]

Jeez people where have you been all your lives?

These foods are known and served all over the world ( well mabe not in countries where pork is not served, unless you don't like the guy).

Black pudding and tripe are both very delish. lots pf offal dishes are tastey and nutritious, unlike a Big Mack. ....How can anyone eat those on a regular basis is beyond comprehension..........

Life / Horse racing in Poland? [13]

Horse racing in poland does it exist ?

I've just googled it and nothing came up, for a horse loving nation this seemed rather incredible. Now I'm not a gambling man but I do like track meeting for a day out and thought I could perhaps treat my cousins to a day at the races when I'm in Poland next, thats mid april this year.

So if anyone knows anything which may help......I'd be grateful :0)

Life / Whats driving like in Poland? [70]

Just survived another trip on Polish roads, did quite a lot of milage on this trip, but still can't say they are bad drivers in genral.

The city of Wroclaw was a little hard to navigate through with all the road works, but that was lack of local knowlage.

On the final trip back to the airport at Katowice got stuck in the most horrendous tailback of motrway trafic, it sreached from krakow to almost the exit for Katowice. I broke every road trafic law known to do the last 50km. Got to checkin desk as they shut, thank you Wizz Air for being so considerate and letting us through.
