Travel / Golf courses in Lodz area [6]

there is one course near Lodz: golfpalace.pl

As long as there is no snow or frost they should be open, I was playing last year even in December in Warsaw as it was quite mild. Call them up to check though.

Life / Wedding in Poland - my experience [39]

I attended my first polish wedding a few months ago, really enjoyed it but what struck me was the paparazzi style scrum from all the guests to get pictures – even during the ceremony? The official photographer had a tough time to get a clear shot.

Life / How can I know if car I am buying in Germany is stolen? [7]

certainly buying second hand from germany is a lot safer than buying second hand in Poland, a lot of the used cars you see here at the Komis are rebuilt crashed cars and many are also clocked.

Law / Interested in a starting a night club bar in poland [14]

poland is acountry with a small proportion of crime relatively speakign to the west

That's the funniest statement I've read in a while. You think there is less theft in Poland than in the West ?

For anyone thinking about getting involved in business in Poland beware about linking up with a Polish partner as every expat i know here who has done so has been screwed at some point or other by their partner.

Life / Queuing and Polish people [49]

my favourite is at the pharmacy, when some shameless old toad meekly sticks her head into the window just after saying "excuse me folks, just one quick question..." then she just slides in and wastes half an hour of everyone's life.

Yes that is a classic manoeuvre, I’ve even seen it happen in the post office where they use the take-a-number system.

There is also the 'dual queuing' system that couples use at the supermarket, where they split up and join two queues to see who what will be quickest. Not technically queue jumping but pisses me off no end.

All Saints day holiday weekend were 56 killed

In NWE they say it was 99 killed that weekend, most of them pedestrains and cyclists on the country roads.

How do these alleged statistics compare to similar statistics in other countries

not very favourably , intersting article here warsawvoice.pl/view/15518

I grew up in the UK and in 28 years maybe saw 2 accidents actually happen real time and saw the aftermath of an accident maybe once or twice a year. Here in Poland I see a live accident about every 4 months and the aftermath of an accident every second day.

Travel / Warsaw bar scene [12]

A few have mentioned the dress code thing and getting turned away at the door

Best get to your chosen venue earlier rather than later to ensure entry, jeans and a shirt will be fine but the bouncers on the doors generally favour regulars over strangers here. As mentioned Klubokawiarnia is a must, expecially if your here midweek.

Law / Obtaining a License to sell Liquor in a restaurant in Poland [9]

Does anyone know what the process is for obtaining a liquor license is

A brown envelope with some cash in it I'd imagine, you really are up against it if your partner is a foreigner too and you don't know someone on the inside to sweeten up. They won't see the bigger picture that approving a licence means more VAT income for the government etc.

If you do get the licence then don't dare file your paper work late, the Warsaw Tortilla Factory lost their licence a couple of years back for six months as a punishment for submitting their licence renewal a day late. You would have though a slap on the wrists would have sufficed.

Where about exactly is your restaurant so i can suss out which one is it ?

UK, Ireland / Views of Poles in UK on Bulgarians/Romanians coming here? [62]

I think the news article that the '1 in 5' quote comes from was actually that 1 in 5 crimes in the UK is committed by a foreigner, and the Poles were the largest group of criminals amongst the foreigners.

Life / Queuing and Polish people [49]

- Really? Aren't you lying a bit perchance?

I live here mate and see it happen every day, I think the Poles are oblivious to the fact they do it thus all the denials....

Life / Queuing and Polish people [49]

Yes it's a real problem in Poland, a Polish queue is generally a triangle shape, and if you complain about someone jumping in front you are seen as the one causing the trouble? The shop assistants to nothing about it either and just let it happen in front of them. They (queue jumpers) have no shame about it either as it is normal behaviour for them to push in.

It's the same when driving here, people will overtake and drive up the pavement just to gain a few metres ?

Oh and the most spectacular I've ever seen is at the Polish ski resorts, you would not believe the queue jumping the goes on there to get on the lifts.

Life / international singned for post to poland-tracing delivery HELP [28]

I could take a few weeks to be honest, Royal Mail have some cheap 'signed for' option to foreign countries but in the small print it says can take up to 21 day sor something and it does. I've had a couple of things sent from the UK to Poland by that method and it took 2-3 weeks.

Merged: rules for Polish Plural

can someone help me out with the logic for the endings to Polish nouns for plural ? I know there are some special cases where no logic can be applied but for the most common cases what are the rules ?

UK, Ireland / Sending a parcel to Poland from UK [30]

yes beware, your chances of the parcel getting to the destination depend greatly on what's inside it. If it's something that could be sold on easily then it may well go awol. I've learned the hard way.

News / British moved to POLAND on BBC tonight [74]

the place is call Amigos rip off

Yes Amigos next to millenium plaza is pretty poor, expensive and low quality steaks. I've yet to find a restaurant in Warsaw that serves a good, fair priced steak.

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

Typical Polish, never grateful and always complaining. It's British, French & German taxpayers who fund they EU, all other countries are net receivers. Maybe you should be grateful for the 88 billion EUR your getting and stop moaning.

As for your comments about the CAP, if Polish farmers were to get the same as the original EU countries farmers (mainly French) then the EU would have gone bankrupt as 2/3 of Polish workers are classed as farmers. It simply wasn't feasible.

The regulations may seem stupid but they are there to raise standards and Poland is badly in need of that.

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

Let’s face it Poland has benefited massively since joining the EU - have you seen all the roads being resurfaced in Warsaw thanks to EU funds in the last 2 years! Now they're doing that E77 road that goes north from Warsaw through Lomianki towards Modlin, thank god because some of the troughs, holes and bumps on that road you would not even find in Africa.

Life / Media Markt in Wroclaw - returning merchandise [8]

Yes it's 'simply the CRAP procedure of doing things' in Poland.

If you've ever been to a country with good customer service you'll find that that shops immediately offer a replacement item when you return faulty goods.

Good luck afc1903 and welcome to Poland.

Real Estate / House near golf course in Warsaw (does it exist?) [8]

There is a 4 BDR Row house built on 300 sqm near the Wilanow Golf Course available for rent from August 1st.

You mean 'Wilanow Driving Range' , there's a big difference between a driving range and a golf course.
