UK, Ireland / Unemployed due to Polish who work in the UK [126]

I have no faith left in the system, I had a job working in manual labour , when i was made redundent because they wanted to get two poles for the price of me, I have been out of work for a month and am behind in my rent and facing eviction , only to have poles move in opposite who apparently have just come to this country, but have sky TV a new car, and brand new clothes.

I went to town the other day to do some shopping and many shops are now stocking polish food, giving us English limited choice in our shops.

How do you poles feel about this on here.

You must have been on some wage if it covers the employment of two Polish people (even on minimum wage!).

I think its fantastic that many shops are stocking Polish food. I have to say, its absolute rubbish that the choice is limited now in shops. Think about the food you actually eat Pete, I'd be willing to bet that over 50% is not of English origin anyway. Do you eat Chinese, Indian or Mexican? Do you eat Pizza? Well, that's of Italian origin just like pasta etc. Kebabs are not English. Use your Internet connection for a better purpose and find out what you're talking about!

And, I am not normally this mean, but if you are really without money and facing eviction then you could probably save £30 a month by cancelling your Broadband connection!

UK, Ireland / Polish Food in Edinburgh [29]

There is even a Polish bakery on Home Street.

Its called The Pine Tree Bakery, I have just been reading about it!

"Retail and wholesale craft bakery products including bread, rolls and cakes. All products are based on traditional Polish recipes and made on premises by a master baker. We only use flour imported from Poland. Free of all additives, chemicals and preservatives."

This is a quote from Edinburgh Council Website.

edinburghnews.scotsman.com/business.cfm?id=1884492006

is an article from last year about the beginning of Polish shops in Edinburgh including restaurant Bigos

Why the suspicion?

As it is, she is half Polish and half Australian. Edinburgh will be the first city she visits on her arrival in the UK. She will visit Poland later in the year but up until then she is very keen on sampling much traditional Polish food and hospitality.

Indeed, she will be sampling the food of other cultures and has found a Kurdish restaurant in Edinburgh called Laraz - I will likely be joining her in Edinburgh and she wishes me to go to this restaurant so if anyone has heard of it - opinions?

Try "Bigos" on Leith Walk.

I'm glad you suggested this. I read a good review about Bigos just a few moments ago and was about to recommend this place to her. I was going to ask people to give their views on this place if they knew of it.

How is Edinburgh phonetically pronounced?

Its probably most like Ed-in-buh-ruh

Hi, a friend of mine is going to be visiting Edinburgh (Scotland) for a while. She would like to know of any good Polish restaurants in this city and also shops that sell decent Polish food. I cannot help her, can anyone here???

Thanks :-)

Love / How to get to know a polish guy better? [102]

A thought has just occured to me and it would be interesting to hear others views; do people ever change their minds about someone romantically? By this I mean that initially they may not be interested, but then it suddenly dawns on them that this person is right for them.

Maybe he has someone back in Poland?

Could be an ex and he is not sure of his feelings for her/him(got to be PC correct).

This is completely something that is happening to me right now. For weeks I realised a close Polish male friend of mine was getting a little more 'friendly' always hugging me and poking me in the side, touching my leg, making a beeline for me when he saw me etc. I didn't think anything of it though, just thought it was nice to have a hug etc. Then a close friend of his told me that basically, he adores me and I thought back over the previous weeks and realised I should have noticed this. I thought about it after a night out where he admitted his feelings in a round about way and two days later I told him I felt the same way - only to be told his ex girl had been in touch and she wanted to get back with him. I told him I felt stupid for admitting my feelings but he said not to feel like that because he didn't want to get back with his girlfriend...but he did want to talk to her when he was in Poland. So he's due back from Poland soon and hopefully I will find out what is happening. (Which will probably be that he is back with her!!!).

Liiii, I understand what you mean about knowing nothing about your guy. This guy I am on about doesn't give information away freely, to find out anything you have to ask him directly and it feels like pulling teeth - but I find this with different guys from different cultures - and, if I am honest, I am the same way, I don't give much away.

I actually think you might have to blunt with him, tell him how you feel to get some kind of reaction, if his reaction is negative then at least you will know and can move on. If it's positive then you will be feeling great and glad you were blunt. Life is too short to deny yourself a chance at happiness! :-)

Why doesn't this place have proper smilies???

Love / Polish men and sex [89]

I have a large group of Polish friends and among the males I would say that their reactions are fairly mixed when it comes to sex. One of them acts like a big stud when we're out but when it comes down to it, he's not into one night stands etc. In fact, he went in a mood with me one time when I suggested he'd slept with a girl he'd met the night before. He told me that he 'did not f**k like that'.

Life / Doing laundry in Poland [66]

Love the smell of laundry dried in the fresh air! You cannot beat it, even with artificial things to put in the drier! Give me fresh air any day! :)

Life / Doing laundry in Poland [66]

18-20 minutes sounds like a major advance in technology! My machine is only 2 years old and takes 1hr 45 for a normal 40 degree wash! I've never thought that this was a problem though! :)
