Do you live in the US? I guess so. Do you speak English? I assume you don't have anyone there translating everything you say all the time. Now, do your parents speak English? Or is it that in general the first generation has it hardest? Then, do Latins of the second generation speak English? Do they go to US schools, learn American history, English language, make friends with locals and therefore learn American culture. At the same time at home they speak Spanish, eat what their family has always eaten, celebrate Christmas, Easter and other holidays the way they would if they were home? Don't you have Polish Christmas? Celebrate namesday? Go to church every Sunday?


Perhaps you should answer this question. Is culture about race or about tradition, history, feelings?

My point is that race is one thing and culture is another. Yes, southeners are darker due to past immigration but at the same time even you say they're Italians.

And then you say that they're Italians now and as a contradiction you bring a different PLACE not a different TIME. Italians in Italy feel, eat, behave and speak Italian. Emigrants from Italy is a different case. In general immigrant absorb the culture of the host country but at the same time keep some of theirs and can clearly tell what's what. As long as there are Italians in Italy, Italian culture will exist. As long as people travel, all cultures will evolve and be enriched by immigrants. Like Queen Bona who brought vegetables to Poland. Or Spaniards who brought potatoes from Peru. Where would Polish soups be without them? If you give it a deeper thought and see things in a broader perspective, such evolution is good.

By the way, did you know that tomatoes were brought form Americas? That before Columbus there was no tomatoe sauce in Italy? Evolution of culture is a good thing :)

There's a general difference in ppl's attitudes between east and west of Poland, I guess I've already mentioned it. Of course within these groups and smaller regions you can always find gentlemen and animals.

don't be scared. If you do business in Poland, you go to civilised, cosmopolitan places. Probably you'll never visit small towns and villages where people are xenophobic and have never seen foreigners, therefore fear them. If you look at the forum I'm sure you''l be able to find positive things noticed by both Poles and foreigners.

Wrong again. People DO recognise the existence of different races. And people do know that cultures exist and should be protected. What you don't seem to understand is that race and culture/nationality are diffrent things.

Let me give you an example. Look at Italy. There is undoubtedly a strong Italian tradition and culture. But look at its people: in the north they're blond and blue-eyed. In the south they're dark-skinned, brown-eyed and black-haired. Still they belong to the same culture, speak the same language, watch the same Italian movies, eat the same Italian food ect.

BP, I don't reaaly think you can have a sense of humour. You just recite what somebody told you or perhaps what you read and what your parents, friends ect. agree with.

Well, I have news for you. The world is bigger than your parents, friends and what you absorb form the outside, as your absorbtion is very selective.

I respect what you believe, you have all the right to choose a wife for you, for whatever reasons you may have. At the same time however, I and everyone else on this planet, has his/her free will to chose their partners and just like you won't listen to them (to put it simple for you) they won't listen to you.

It is often said that local officials have too much power over ordinary people and can ruin them if they fancy doing so. Like it or not, there are more important things than skin colour. Actually, genetically speaking, humans instinctively choose partners with different immunity system to provide best odds for their children. If you have kids with someone different, they'll be genetically better, like it or not.

When you see her, insist on honesty. "Space" is no explanation, there must be something going on, maybe involving just herself, maybe someone else as well. If you assure her that you'll give her time but you need to know why all this is going on. At least that's what I'd do.

how about good old 'talk to her'? If you could tell us such story with what seems to be one breath, why don't you tell her how you feel? I insist that talking will do a better job than writing any notes. Invite her to your place, make a romantic dinner and remind her all the special moments you shared. And when the right moment comes tell her how much you love her and that you cannot stand her treating you like a stranger and that you'd rather not see her at all than like this. Give her time to think about it and keep your fingers crossed. Either way you'll get some kind of an answer.

if you "stole her only daughter to America", I assume the mother in law is still in Poland. Look on the bright side of the situation. It couldn't be better! Most mothers in law hate their sons in law so the further she is from you, the better. My mother in law lives in the States, I live in Poland, and although I've been married for two years, I still haven't actually met her. And I love it! I couldn't possibly stand her spoiling my son, telling me how to cook, how to iron my husband's shirts (in fact he does it himself) ect. So the fact that you live on two different continents is an advantage, after all you could be living next door...

This is an ordinary generalisation and I must disagree with you. Latins are like Europeans, they live on two huge continents and their attitudes vary. Chileans are different from Venezuelans like Nordics from Italians. You can't put them all in one basket.

Naturally some people are more single-minded than others and focus on the physical side of things but you can't honestly say you believe everyone is like that.

My relationship has lasted for years now and we do share comon interests, we do focus on each other and we do other things than the one you had on your mind. If not for that, we wouldn't be a couple any more, we'd be going nowhere. Bear that in mind before you criticise people.

I first went to UK to improve my English. I did some voluntary work for Queen's foundation for disabled and was very sorry to hear it had been closed. Later I went there for holidays to keep up with the language and perhaps make some pocket money for the academic year. After graduation, I went to UK to work and succeeded in getting a job as an English teacher (English as a foreign/second language) which has helped me in my career ever since. I feel a strong connection with the UK and am planning to return there. The relaxed attitude is one thing, freedom another, money a separate thing. I guess in both countries you can make a lot or little and it really depends on you.

You can ski as close an one hour drive from Wroclaw, in Jelenia Gora region. I don't ski myself but those who do, usually like it there.

I live in the city centre and I love it. I walk to work most of the time and save myself public communication, traffic jams and crowds. But of course it will make little sense to move into the centre just to commute to the otskirts to work so before you decide on where to live, check exact location of your company.

About English speaking expats in Wroclaw, there are many of them, probably most of them teach, I met a few recently and they seemed to have a network of firends rather than anything more official.
