Yes they do, they belive that if you don't reach enlightenment in this life, then you continue to be reborn until you do....A very scary concept if you ask me

She is correct...I used to go to Meditation classes at the local Buddhist centre...I was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the meditation really helped....Anyway, Buddha was a man who acheived great enlightenment, in other words he became a Buddha, they believe that we have it within us to all become buddhas..they also have debates where they can question and disagree with Buddhist teachings, because Buddha said that no one should believe what he said, but make their own minds up....it was a bit of a culture shock to me, when they started debating and one of them said he didn't believe in reincarnation...to me that seemed very disrespectful to question the teachings, but apparently that's what Buddhists do.

Perhaps you're right, but big cities are very likely to host such patterns of behaviour. I visited London this summer and since I was using public transport I had the dubious opportunity to observe similar groups of youths.

Tell me waht you said here first

The answer is, i'm not decided yet. i know that I won't be voting for Labour or Conservative. I'm sick of the 2 horse race we have in this country, so no need to repeat that in Euro elections.

I will wait to see which candidates stand in my area and what their policies are.

Europe is having an election 4th June 2009.

Money for me, i get to work a 16 hour day, so the money aint bad. I use paid annual leave from work, then earn more money from working at the polls.

Great, I'm interested in how everyone will vote, but I also find it interesting how people abroad will vote, when the options are different to the ones they would have at home.

And you think you will find someone on the forum, who will know for certain that ancient man rode Mammoths........I don't believe thre has ever been archealogical evidence to support such a theory. Ther is no evidence that man domesticated mammoths, which he would need to do in order to use them for transport.

BTW Lord of the Rings is fiction, Tolkein made it up

It cannot be just forgotten...or given a white wash. But yes, I agree to the fact that this shouldnt be let influence our present so much. Instead, this can help us to be careful so that next time a Hitler dont get the chance to wake up 'False Pride' of people.

Which is why it is dangerous to label a race, rather than a regime. When we talk of the atrocites of Pol Pot, we talk about these being commited by the Khmer Rouge, not Cambodians

I appreciate your insight and your consideration towards a section of people in our own planet.

I find your attitude condescending. However, my point was, that it was easy for Hitler to raise support in the early days. Some people didn't realise what they were voting for. Others did and helped him to power. Some chose only to see what benefited them. Some did oppose him. It is dangerous to label an entire nation. Since Hitler, there has been others who committed genocide and atrocities, mankind can be cruel and vicious, regardless of their race.

I remeber when I was a child watching a programme on TV. They ahd a studio audience. On a screen, they had an election manifesto, it promised full employment, better public transport etc., The studio audience were asked to say whether they would vote for a politician that made these promises, the majority voted yes. They revealed the name of the politician who had made these promises. It was Adolf Hitler, long before the war. The audience were shocked. When politicians make promises, people will listen to the ones that benefit them.

Not everyone is Germany supported Hitler, some that opposed him payed with their own lives. Others kept quiet to safeguard their own and their immediate families lives. Fortunatley for me, I have never been in that situation. I'd like to believe I would defend what I believed to be right, but without being in that situation, I am not in a position to say how big a personal price I would be prepared to pay.

I thought it was person one vote

If someone is living in a 'safe seat' constituency, their vote doesn't really count if they are voting for the 'other' party. That's why so many people vote tactically rather than for the party they would prefer, as it would be a wasted vote.

Then there is the added problem that the likes of Noimmigration get to vote.

Tony Blair seemed the best of a bad bunch.

The first past the post system means you can get in without the majority voting for you. You just need more votes than the other parties individually, not more than the rest combined. That's why it's just a 2 horse race between the Tories and Labour, neither of whom will ever change the voting system, as it would reduce their chances of power....Plus the alternative, is no alternative, just another bunch of self interested career politicians.

That's what worries me...Data storage is contracted out to private contractors. Civil Service rules state that 3 quotes must be obtained and the contract goes to the cheapest tender. They in turn sub contract, to god knows who.......
