Travel / Trips and Nights in Gdansk / Sopot [30]

Yeah, the ferries to Sweden are a real kick ass - 24 hours the shortest - Gdynia-Karlskrone. For less than 6 hours... hmm there's a ferry to Russia (Kaliningrad district)

Travel / Trips and Nights in Gdansk / Sopot [30]

Chillichilli, a boat for a party? Or just a trip? There's one from Gdańsk centre to Westerplatte - boring like hell and all you see is the dead shipyard.

In Gdynia you can get a cruise on a sail boat - this is normally fun. You would need to go to the docks and just ask someone on one of boats there. If you bring out some cash you can have it organised in no time.

Language / Pronouncing of the "ski" and "ska" part [5]

is hasn't always been the case. there are families that still keep the masculin form of the last name for all members. it's the evolution of the language that has instroduced this differentiation between men and women in a family.

when you marry you can actually choose the form of your 'future' last name.

Love / Met a polish boy last summer [6]

Elizabeth, I've been there. well, I felt like you when I visited my gf's parents in France, she felt the same in Poland. Weird a thing to face at first, but have a bit of patience. You feel left out when they speak Polish, most likely you guy's mother feels the same when you two talk to each other in English, when she's around. I'm pretty sure, she'd like to join your conversations as you'd like to join theirs. It's a bit of a downside of an international relationship. It's easy to cope with though. Have some patience, that's all. You'll learn to talk to them, even if you're not able to speak Polish. My gf somehow manages to 'talk' to my parents, funny a scene to see, but once a while when they get dead-locked, i just step in and translate, even though often they just tell me to go to hell, 'cause they don't need me :)

it means that basically he thinks everything comes easy to him without a problem!!

thanks. i understood the meaning, just couldn't figure out a possible reason why the word 'sinch' was used.

Love / Stag and Hen parties in Poland [6]

well, the English are famous fot stag/hen parties for a reason. i wouldn't claim we're innocent during those evenings, but you shouldn't expect an event on a scale you're used to

Love / BLACK GUYS POLISH WOMEN [809]

probably out of curiosity... to taste the exotic.

to answer your original question. i wouldn't see problem a Polish girl dating a black guy. i mean, what would be a problem. probably, if you a tall, handsome... (and other superlatives ;) guy who always happens to get the best looking chick in town, I'll envy you, but then... that's it. nothing to do with the skin colour

Life / Polish Driving Licence. [314]

you can jest get a Polish replacement, without any egzam. but your license (is it British?) is valid as it is. you might have to replace it if you want to register a car for yourself with Polish plates. I'm not sure is it's mandatory though. In Belgium i've registered a car on local plates, based on my Polish license without a problem.

but as far as driving only is concerned, you can use you British license. if you're from the US... I don't know

Food / Polish-Style Chicken Soup (Rosol) [16]

it's very simple. you need fresh beetroot ( a few of them). slice and dice them (you can also mash them but it's not cool ;)). prepare stock. than you add the sliced beetroot, spice it up and it's pretty much it. the thing is it needs quite some time in a boil, before the juices are sucked out of the vegetables.

and it's always much better if you prepare the stock yourself instead of using a ready-to use stuff from a convenience store. that's because of fat that you get when boiling meet.

you can use whatever meet you chose, including chickin - this one's my favourite :)

you can serve it as it is or with added fresh cream. but don't boil it with cream.
you can serve it with pasta or ravioli. i think you can also add diced potato to the whole mixture/ you can boil it separately or in the whole mixture.

Language / Polish Language Pronunciation - Example Words and Phrases [220]

y = like "y" in adultery or "y" in advocacy

no, it's not, unless as in 'adultery' pronounced with a heavy Polish accent :), no kidding, must be a local thing or something, but i heard that the pronounciation of the last 'y' can change. the most simillar to Polish 'y' i heard in an English program was in 'Minister, Minister', where the speak with this posh sort of an accent.

Love / Stag and Hen parties in Poland [6]

yes, they do

format - on stag parties we're to drunk to follow our own noses, so format is out of the question, a stripper, lots of drinks, then more drinks... hen parties are normally less loud and shown to the world comparing to what the English do, but I haven't been to any :) so can't say much

Law / Residency Status Questions - EU citizen and Poland [7]

you need a residency, you will get it without a problem though. as a EU citizen you can stay as long as you want, you can go to Germany and back as many times as you please. , required documents are typical (to receive a residency card) - a rent contract for a place to stay (unless you buy one, then a proof you own it), some proof that you have sufficient financial means - I guess since you're gonna run a business it's no biggy and perhaps some kind of health insurance paper.

but indeed a Polish ID card is needed for banks and othe institutions, but as I said, you'll get it without a problem, only some paperwork
