News / Germany seeks extadition of Sobibor death camp guard. [65]

In my opinion German press writes so much about this guy because he is Ukrainian, if he had German name ... situation would be much different.

(it is not German link but I am talking about this whole situation)

Secondly, German press referes to this camp in articles as about Polish concentration camp ... what is not mistake but rather Goebbels propaganda...

this article is right :

Demjanjuk — a Ukrainian — is accused of involvement during World War II in killings at Sobibor, a Nazi German death camp in Poland. He denies the allegations.

As to Morel. In my opinion, Isrealis should teach about him in schools to get rid off vicim complex.

There is not much stuff about it in the german press actually...just observing this game of ping pong...most are just puzzled!

I've noticed that when German press writte about camps which were build do kill POLES and Jews ... they often use term Polish concentration camp. Later they excuse ... (small information on last page) and then use this term again on first page ... and excuse (small information on last page) ...

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

Kaliningrad is Russia. Poland has problems with sea transport by the part of the sea controled by Russians. Russians have problem with transport goods from and to Russia. In my opinion both problems can be easlily solved.

In case of good will from both sides Kaliningrad can look like for example Gdynia... with torusists and trade. Poles and Russians in neigbourhood would gain a lot, current situation means lost opportunities and potential for Nord East Poland and Kaliningrad.

I find Kaliningrad as opportunity for great business, both for Russians and Poles.

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

First you exterminate 2/3 of polish ruling class which constituted brain and then you subjected Poland to 40years of occupation.

Well Polish case wasn't so horrible like Russian ...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julia_Brystiger

The instructions given by Brystygier to her subordinates were as follows:

In fact, the Polish intelligentsia as such is against the Communist system and basically, it is impossible to re-educate it. All that remains is to liquidate it. However, since we must not repeat the mistake of the Russians after the 1917 revolution, when all intelligentsia members were exterminated, and the country did not develop correctly afterwards, we have to create such a system of terror and pressure that the members of the intelligentsia would not dare to be politically active

Of course Constantine doean't calculate this long term effect on Russian nation when he glorifies changes in Russia in years 1917 - 1945. Honestly saing Russians have done the biggest damage for their own people durring communism.

Why shouldn't I?

In my opinion Russia novadays would be less dependent from gas prices and other branches of your economy would be much better developed.

Just wait another 100 years and you will venerate Russian

I hope that sooner than in 100 years Polish and Russian politicians will celebrate anniversary of the end of communism ... together in friendly state of mind ... who knows maybe in Kalinigrad which could be the symbol of friendly Russian and Polish neighbourhood.

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

At least in opposition to the French celebrating anniversary of the French revolution they don't celebrate anniversary of Bolshevik revolution.

I see some differences between this two revolutions but it is not subject of this debate.

thats why i cant hate russians as a nation. it would be like yelling at retarded kid who shited its pants. they are just a bunch of puppets on the strings pulled by a few. poor people.

Russian system is not what Poles like, it doesn't change the fact that Poland should be much closer in foreign policy to Russia. Even if Poles and Russians don't agree on some historical issues ... for example case of Kaliningrad should be solved because current situation is lose - lose and it can be easily transformed into win-win solution when both sides gain.

History / Polish Jews we are (Poles) proud of [30]

This story came to my mind

latteisland.blogspot.com/2009/01/hitler-i-decide-who-is-jewish.html

In the same way as the work of Wagner was used to promulgate Nazi views, the music of Strauss and of Franz Lehar, composer of The Merry Widow, was closely associated with the vast cultural pageants Hitler staged to shore up his regime. Lehar, like Strauss, was of Jewish descent, although this again was never acknowledged by Hitler, who is believed to have said: 'I decide who is Jewish.'

History / Heretics Asylum - The First Republic of Poland [50]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_Reformed_Church

The Polish Reformed Church, officially called the Evangelical Reformed Church in the republic of Poland (Polish: Kościół Ewangelicko-Reformowany w RP) is a historic Protestant church in Poland established in the 16th century, still in existence today.

The Greater Poland Brethren was incorporated in 1817 to the Prussian Evangelical Union Church as a separate district but without any autonomy. Under constant pressure from the German government by the mid 19th century the United Church abandoned Polish in its liturgy and most of old Reformed nobles chose to convert to Roman Catholicism rather than to become Germans.

What I want to add. Poland is going to be heretic again. Some people may think that straight Polish person is Catholic but when you read about Polish history ... you are going to see that ... there were always heretic tendentions ... Communism is over, church isn't needed in fight against system. Polish Pope is dead, Poland isn't occupied ....

I doubt that Poland will be Protestant again but for sure we are going to see some original changes in this country.

History / Heretics Asylum - The First Republic of Poland [50]

THE ARYANS SIDED WITH THE INVADING SWEDES AND THEREFORE COMMITTED TREASON AGAINST THEIR NATIVE LAND, POLAND.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_Brethren

Polish Brethren (also called Antitrinitarians, Arians, or Socinians, Polish: Arianie, Bracia Polscy) was the name of a Protestant Polish church from the 16th century.

hey advocated the separation of church and state and taught the equality and brotherhood of all people; they opposed social privileges based on religious affiliation, and their adherents refused military service (they were known for carrying wooden swords instead of real almost obligatory szablas) and declined political office. They were against capital punishment, and did not believe in the traditional Christian doctrines of Hell or the Trinity.

Aryans didn't fight because they were pacifist, and yes durring the war they haven't defendend homeland but it was caused by ideology (defending homeland was in their nobility duty). What is sure it can't be called collaboration.

That is why they had the biggest problems when we look on Polish protestant churches and their situation after deluge ...

Polonus you talk like Spanish inquisition. You know the truth about the strenght of Catholic church in Poland doesn't come from peoples believes but from different historical events, wars ect.

In my opinion very soon you are going to see real believes of Polish people and I am sure you are going to be disilusioned.

As to Protestants Adam Małysz is Protestant, Jerzy Buzek is Protestant and I've never heard anny negative statments about their religion...

As to Aryans they were pacyfist and every nation has some pacyfist movements ...

77% of Polish people supports in vitro ... 17% is against ... rest doesn't have opinion.

Według badania, zdecydowana większość Polaków (77 proc.) akceptuje stosowanie zapłodnienia in vitro w przypadku małżeństw niemogących mieć dzieci. Przeciwnego zdania jest 17 proc. badanych.

How to say it ... in Catholic faith ...

History / Polish Jews we are (Poles) proud of [30]

I remember reading that Edelman was often criticized by other Jews for not leaving Poland in 1945 or in 1968.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marek_Edelman

In 1942, as a youth leader in the Bund, Edelman was among the founders of the underground Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa (Jewish Fighting Organization). In the Warsaw ghetto uprising of April-May 1943

Because this person in prove of huge defraudation made by state of Israel when we talk about compensations payed by for example Germany ... on non-Zionist Jews graveyard.

Due to its ties with the all-national Armia Krajowa, after the war the Communist authorities of Poland suppressed the publication of books and articles on ŻZW whose role in the uprising in the ghetto was undervalued, as opposed to the Jewish Fighting Organization with less ties to the Polish AK.

News / Krystian Zimerman's shocking Disney Hall debut [13]

The Guardian: Why pianist Krystian Zimerman was right to speak out
guardian.co.uk/music/tomserviceblog/2009/apr/28/pianist-krystian-zimerman

Polish pianist Krystian Zimerman's political speech during his debut recital at Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles shocked his Californian audience. He told the Americans to "Get your hands off my country", before he played Polish composer Karol Szymanowski's Variations on a Polish Theme

When I met Zimerman last year to interview him for Music Matters, I asked him if he really thought this kind of protest was the best way of making a point. His answer was that he couldn't in good conscience play to an audience in a country whose political leaders he disagreed with, without making some kind of stand. Zimerman isn't naïve enough to think that his way of speaking out is going to change US policy in Eastern Europe. But he feels his music making can only speak to listeners who understand where he's coming from.

History / Taras Bulba - the movie [115]

Nathan

What do you think about this issue:

Municipal authorities form Lwów (yes the city which was in 60% Polish before the war) demand UPA monument to be build in Poland (yes DEMAND ) ... UPA is organization which in collaboration with Hitler Germany ethnically cleansed Polish towns ...

Lviv City Council calls for an official protest of the Ukrainian authorities to destroy the monument of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA ) in the Bieszczady mountain Chryszczata in the Podkarpackie region - reported local media.

In this day adopted an appeal to the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko , the foreign ministry in Kiev and the Consulate of Poland in Lviv councilors tagged events Chryszczata as the " act of vandalism " .

They want to destroy the Polish-Ukrainian friendship

I haven't been writtng about Ukrianian ambassy. This artcile points out that Municipal authorities form Lwów DEMAND this monument to be build. They made special appeal in this case so you avoid facts about which I am talking about.

I don't think any reasonable person in Lviv wants it.

Majority or your municipal authorities form Lwów want it. Read the article.

UPA didn't collaborate with Germans. UPA fought against Germans as well as Russians. I can't deny what I can't prove, but Volyn' killings of Poles were committed mostly by KGB squadrons

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_Insurgent_Army

During its existence, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army fought a large variety of military forces, including the Nazi German Wehrmacht and Waffen SS, the Polish underground army (Armia Krajowa) and Soviet forces - including Soviet partisans, the Red Army, NKVD, SMERSH, MGB and MVD. From late spring 1944, the UPA and OUN-B - faced with Soviet advances - also cooperated with the German Wehrmacht and Waffen SS, SiPo and SD against the Soviets and Poles. The army played a substantial role in the killing and ethnic cleansing of much of Western Ukraine's Polish population. In the last year of the war, the Polish communist army - the Armia Ludowa - was massively attacked by the UPA.

Believe me or not but AK (Home Army) and Polish communist have the knowledge against who they were fighting against, there is a lot of books about it.

I thought that Poland and Ukraine were going in good direction ... but unfortunately it seems that somebody tests Polands good will or maybe it is sign what is going to happen when Ukraine will be realy strong ...

History / Taras Bulba - the movie [115]

Is there something about Lwow deputies or not ? Is there something about their apeal? Why do you avoid parts of article which says true wrolds about Ukrainian DEMANDS?

Ok Nathah opinion is not important anny more. WWII is old story.

If somebody looks on other nations by prism of history... Of course Ukrainians have done much more bad for Poland than Russians ...

For me history isn't so important.

Lets face it anty - Polish views are present in current western Ukraine. If we are not racist this country has much more potential than Poland (bigger population, terytory ect) .

We must think if Ukraine in current sharply nationalistic shape is in Polish interest ? Of course it is in American interest but I am not so sure if it is in long term geopolitical Polish interest to support nationalistic part of their society.

History / Territories of eastern Germany should rightfully belong to Poland? [161]

I have video about region's situation in 10th century.

I agree with Crow that Slavic people of todays eastern Germany were assimilated by Germans. Even Otto von Bismark mentioned it in one of his speaches.

He probably desired only to have them acknowledge dependency in some way, as Henry II did with the Poles. In time the goal became the direct possession of Slavia.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_II,_Holy_Roman_Emperor

After bloodily suppressing a revolt of the citizens of Pavia, Henry remained there until May 25, when, feeling that Italy could be considered settled, he decided to return to Germany through the Saint Gotthard Pass. From Germany he launched a second campaign against Boleslaus, allying with the pagan Liutitians against the Christian Poles and waged successful campaigns that culminated in a lasting compromise peace with the Poles in 1018: Boleslaus was allowed to retain Lusatia and Meissen as fiefs, but had to give up Bohemia, which he had recently conquered.

People that Crow talks about were Polabian Slavs :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polabian_Slavs

Polabian Slavs is a collective term applied to a number of West Slavic tribes who lived along the Elbe, between the Baltic Sea to the north, the Saale[1] and Limes Saxonicus[2] to the west, the Sudetes and Franconia to the south, and Poland to the east. They have also been known as the Elbe Slavs and as Wends. Their name derives from the Slavic po, meaning "by/next to/along", and the Slavic name for the river (Labe in Czech)

Some people saved their heritage :

The Polabian language is now extinct. However, both Sorbian languages are spoken by approximately 60,000 inhabitants of the region and the languages are regarded by the government of Germany as official languages of the region.

Crow is right Germans are much more mixed than some people would think ...

In my opinion there is no need for new wars ;)

History / Poland and Ukraine [240]

Name Ukraine was invented by Poles. U - kraja (border), I have heard that Ukrainians are stealing whole Polish companies who invested there ... they simple come and tell that this factory should be their - as to me nothing changed there.

Honestly saying Poland is the last country in Europe who supports them and in my opinion they are not able for selfgovern - lets see how they are going to govern their country without support of Polish pan's they hate so much.

I prefere Russians and our in some cases tense contacts with them are caused by Polish support for Ukrainians. Lets forget about them and talk straight to Russians because they are nation with common sense.

Crimeria is Russian - nobody considers themselves as Ukrainian there. In case of integration with NATO there will be rebel. Makeing form them Ukrianians is like makeing from east Germans - sparate Slavic nation - racist non sens.

Russian

Percentage of people who prefer to use Russian according to 2003 survey by KIIS (in macroregions).

This people are strongly pro - Russian and don't want to see Ukriane in western structures. In case of Ukrainians membership in NATO there is going to be home war.

In my opinion Russians are absolutely right when they cliam that Ukraine is too nationalistic country.
