Now what happened durring the war: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsion_of_Poles_by_Germany

Expulsions Polish citizens from anexed areas of Poland after 1939

It is estimated that between 1.6 and 2 million people were expelled from their homes during the German occupation of Poland. Only the German organized expulsions affected directly 1,710,000 Poles. These numbers do not include people arrested by the Germans and sent to Nazi concentration camps.[9]

In many instances, Poles were given between 15 minutes and 1 hour to collect their personal belongings (usually no more than 15 kilograms per person) before they were removed their homes and transported east (see: deportations) On top of that about 5 million[citation needed] Poles were sent to German concentration camps. A total of about 6 million Polish citizens were killed during the war. All these actions resulted in significant changes in Polish demographics at the end of the war.

As to reality:

It is pity that many hands were left in our cemeteries.

UPA was active in the ethnic cleansing actions of ethnic Poles from areas of Ukrainian autonomous settlement through terrorist acts and the mass-murder of Polish civilians.[56] Ethnic cleansing operations against the Polish population began on a large scale in March 1943.[57]

Brutal methods such as beheading, disembowelling, and killing with knives and axes were employed against Poles. In addition to the UPA, Ukrainian peasants also participated in the violence,[58] and large groups of armed "bandit" marauders, unafiliated with UPA, brutalized civilians.[59] so the exact number of Poles killed specifically by UPA is unknown. The UPA also killed ethnic Ukrainians who were believed to be associated with communists, as well as those Ukrainians who had intermarried with Poles[citation needed]. In anti-Polish actions from Autumn 1943 in Halychyna, the UPA conducted cooperative actions with detachments from the Galician Division.[60] The estimates of the number of Poles murdered in Ukraine range from 100,000 (Edward Prus, 2006)[61] to 500,000 (Norman Davies, 1996);[3] many more Poles fled the area because of the post-war chaos.

Post WWII Gdańsk

After the final Soviet offensive began in January, 1945, hundreds of thousands of German refugees, many of whom had fled to Gdańsk on foot from East Prussia (see evacuation of East Prussia), tried to escape through the city's port in a large-scale evacuation involving hundreds of German cargo and passenger ships. Some of the ships were sunk by the Soviets, including the Wilhelm Gustloff after an evacuation was attempted at neighboring Gdynia. In the process, tens of thousands of refugees were killed.

An unspecified number of young (mostly underaged) inhabitanst of Gdańsk, both male and female, was rounded up by the Soviet NKVD in 1945 and placed in provisional camps in Grudziądz, Ciechanów, Działdowo and Iława. All of them were soon deported to Siberia by the Soviet secret police, as revealed by the Institute of National Remembrance in 2000-2002 investigation

I don't understand people from country which had nothing to say after WWII and durring WWII ... debating about this issues as if Poland had as much to say as for example Soviets...

Anny way Poland was one of the biggest vicitmes after WWII.

You can't deny that many Poles were happy to be offered full employment and some other things that communism brought.

Without Soviets Poland would never be communistic country. Communism was imposed on Poland by force.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_repressions_of_Polish_citizens_(19 39-1946)

In the aftermath of the German and Soviet invasion of Poland (September, 1939) the territory of Poland was divided between the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union (USSR).

Both powers were hostile to the Polish culture and the Polish people, aiming at their destruction.[1] Before Operation Barbarossa, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union coordinated their Poland-related policies, most visibly in the four Gestapo-NKVD Conferences, where the occupants discussed plans for dealing with the Polish resistance movement and future destruction of Poland.[2]

There is some controversy as to whether Soviet policies were harsher than those of the Nazis.

In 1940 and the first half of 1941, the Soviets deported more than 1,200,000 Poles, most in four mass deportations. The first deportation took place February 10, 1940, with more than 220,000 sent to northern European Russia; the second on April 13, 1940, sending 320,000 primarily to Kazakhstan; a third wave in June-July 1940 totaled more than 240,000; the fourth occurred in June, 1941, deporting 300,000. It was determined based on Soviet information that more than 760,000 of the deportees had died-a large part of those dead being children, who had comprised about a third of deportees

If you ask me if there were Polish communists ... I will answer ... yes Poland had some communists.

If you ask me if they would be able to take power in free Poland. I will answer no!

It is how free Poland fought against Communists in 1920. Poland beaten Soviet Union in 1920.

I'd tend to agree with you, Salomon, but Poland was hardly ever truly free, now was it?

Well ... Polish people defended 2nd republic as they could, it was heroic effort ... Polish people were dreaming about the end of imposed on them communism.

You can make speculations if communism would happen without soviets ... the fact is that communism was immposed by Soviets and Polish people were oppresed by this system for Polish ethicy.

What can be interesting. Western Ukraians 20 years before the WWII ... formed units for Poland in Polish -Soviet war ... so using stupefying Soviet propaganda they prefered "lords"

Petlura withdrew to Poland December 5 1919, which had previously recognized him as the head of the legal government of Ukraine. In April 1920, as head of the Ukrainian People's Republic, he signed an alliance in Warsaw with the Polish government, agreeing to a border on the River Zbruch and recognizing Poland's right to Galicia in exchange for military aid in overthrowing the Bolshevik regime. Polish forces, reinforced by Petlura's remaining troops (some two divisions), attacked Kiev on July 5, 1920

News / Words of thanks towards the 'Federation of Expellees' by Angela Merkel [40]

Most people considered as expelled aren't such in reality. Millions of people were looking for drop of foreign blood in 1970's and left Poland for political reasons using bloods law.

Steinbach family came to Poland in 1939 - and feleed Poland in 1945... she is good face for this organisation as long as she was living in stolen house and is dauther of German officer who came to Poland with invading German army. I would say it is perfect

As for other issues - In my opinion "ethnic" is wrong word.

All in all the biggest critic of German miniority in Poland was ... Józef Beck - who was partly of German origin...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Józef_Beck

So it was rather about political alligance.

What is more it was gen. Berling and many other people had no problems in communistic Poland in result of being party of German origin.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zygmunt_Berling

Expelled Germans were mostly people who conisdered themsleves as more Germans than Poles... and it was very easy to verify after WWII.

As for east German communists : No body made such hot kisses with Soviet leaders as German leader - Honecker ... so he wasn't protesting aganist some decisions made by Soviets...

History / Battle of Grunwald 2009 [24]

This battle is very interesting.

It is very intresting to see part of Polish history when Poland fought against Order of the Teutonic Knights of St. Mary's Hospital in Jerusalem - German Roman Catholic religious order which was openly supported by the Pope.

As if Poles get to decide what an expellee is and who is not...

You can even call Hans Frank opressed expelle ... it makes you look more ridiculous. To be honest you are close to it.

As for history you should deal with some other issues which are not part of debate :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Germany

The German Democratic Republic (GDR; German: Deutsche Demokratische Republik, DDR; more commonly known in English as East Germany) was a self-declared socialist state

I am not obsessed.

First of all Germans destroyed whole Poland and murdered milions of people in Poland ... so here is huge space for debate about fate of Germans after the WWII.

Secondly ...

East German government agreed on everything and said "thank you" with kisses for the soviets.

Last point is that when we look on German "expelled" arguments and biographies ... then the reason why British, Russians and Americans decided to change our border is clear.

The CDU has yet to say what compensation it wants for the expellees

LOL

I am not obsessed.

Anny way ... it is not debate about the history.

He is making a mistake by equating the East German government with the German people.

It is not mistake I know history of communism in this part of europe.

Why Germans think that they can just forget about decisions made by Eastern German government ... :)

News / Words of thanks towards the 'Federation of Expellees' by Angela Merkel [40]

Maybe it was maybe it wasn't ...

To this day 20% of Eastern Germans would like to see Berlin wall rebuild. It is fact that novadays Left wing is weaker in europe than it was in the past ... and still 20% of east Germans would like to see the wall ...

In my opinion in the past the support for the wall was much bigger ...

What is more it is not so easy to make some Polish communists international agreements not valid ... so why why should we forget about Eastern German governments decisions.

But if we make both communists decisions not valid ... we should start new debate about compensations which Germans should pay for Poland.

Don't call me idiot:

telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/poland/5687591/Angela-Merkels-party-backs-homeland-for-Germans-expelled-by-Poland.html

The party of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel has declared that its countrymen expelled by Poland after the Second World War have a 'right to a homeland' and said the deportations should be condemned under international law.

It is not debate about the history... in such case borders will be valid but Poland is going to have milions of Germans within its borders ... then Kosovo ... ect..

It is not just debate about history.

Why do you think they needed armed guards with shooting orders ON THE INSIDE!

Russians build guags for their own people ... as the North Korea ... and many other countries

Well...you wouldn't accuse the inmates to prefer their gulags to the freedom, wouldn't you..

20% of eastern Germans would like to see the wall rebuild ... Who do you call an idiot ?

And yes, ethnical cleansing IS condemned between civilized peoples now...as it should be.

Germans durring WWII weren't civilzed people ...

What about the other 80 percent???

I am not commie supporter of Berlin wall ...

but I wanted to notice that decisions made by Eastern German government had some legitimation ... and if we see lower support for the left in whole novadays europe ...

this legitimation was much stronger in the past.

Anny way ... the telegraph made good quotation I've seen similar in other sources.

As for Idiots ... there is huge space for debate about 20% of eastern Germans ...

Spot on Honecker ... some Germans still love his ideas. :)

Genealogy / I have got alot of Polish DNA [51]

If R1A is Polish DNA - I don't have such ...

Anny way I would wait for more people being sample.

Just spot on sample Size :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y-DNA_haplogroups_by_ethnic_groups

The small letter [n] in 3rd column shows us how many people from every country was taken to be representative for every nation...

The numbers are quite small (50 - 100 people) So in one experiment Hungarians are one of the most Eastern European nation on the world in other they are more ... lest say Turk than one would think ... so we should just wait for more profesional and consolidated expertises.

News / Russia opens archives and Poland demands minority rights from Germany [60]

Hitler suppressed Polish minority rights in Germany. Before this event Poles in Germany had the same miniority rights like for example Danes...

Now German miniority in Poland has its rights like other miniorities in Poland and Polish miniority doesn't have such in Germany.

So Poland should suppress German minority rights in Poland or Germany should make Hitlers decisions not valid and make Polish minority equal to Sorb or Danish miniority.

As to Russian archives it is going to be something interesting but of course Russians will show what they want to show.

News / Jews use American congress to pressure Polish government to PAY [63]

Here is offical annucment of Polish Jews who reject fianacial claims of American Jews.

fzp.net.pl/kom54.html

So Poland has support for Jews living in Poland and doesn't need to pay single penny for some international organisations (for houses left without heirs) ...

What is more - anny international or foreign organisations have no right to talk in name of polish Jews or try to represent their business.
