Language / The verb "Piec" to bake [12]

I don't understand your question. But yes, there are many verbs where you, as with pieć, take the stem of the word (often equal to the 3rd person singular) and just add plural endings as below.

my: -my
wy: -cie
oni: -ą

When it comes to verbs (infinitives) ending in -ać you often use the same procedure adding the above mentioned endings to the stem (usually equal to 3rd person singular form [on, ona, ono]). The difference is that you add -ją to the 3rd person plural [oni/one].

Life / Wanna buy a rubber/condom (in Rossmann in Poznan)? [51]

I noticed all Polish women don't use condoms and don't even visit doctors at all. I wouldn't have sex with Polish Women.

Some do, some don't. It's the same in Western Europe.

History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

Germans im not so sure thay can ever be forgiven

Hitler and his allied Nazis will never (and should never) be forgiven.

But there are very few Germans living today that have anything to do with the WWII Nazism, blaming them just shows lack of intelligence. Then there are the German neo-nazis, and I don't mind if they are buried 6 feet under as soon as possible.

History / Poland: dont blame us its the Germans. [174]

Blaming them shows a deep sense of christianity. The concept "of the original sin, you know

From that perspective we all have so many sins and much evilness that we can judge everyone on earth for something really terrible that our ancestors did.

News / Polish priest publishes sex guide [97]

Polish priest publishes sex guide

I heard that it's a bestseller already.

But when it comes to the young generation I think most of them will not care about this book. They have other sources of sex education than priests. ;)

Love / Confused English man: is she stringing me along or is she confused? [62]

Good Luck to waveydave!

You have put a lot of your life into this. I hope it will turn out in a good way for you. But you must also be aware of the possibility that you will never get her. And you must have a plan for that scenario as well.

In these 4.5 years has the relationship reached the bedroom. ???

Probably not, coming from a very deeply religious family.

And as far as I understand there is not really a "relationship" at all, just being friends. Her mother and brother would probably freak out because she has already been divorced once. I think this story smells traditional values in severe excess.

Love / In your opinion, are most Polish women 'Easy'? [243]

she hurt me so so so so so so DEEP!!! I hate her, but I still thinking about her.

I'm sorry to hear this. Move on and get someone who deserves you.

Mine sent the message with her mouth full.

Full of? Food? My mum always told me not to speak with food in my mouth, but sending messages should be OK as far as I know.

Love / Confused English man: is she stringing me along or is she confused? [62]

I think I have to go to Poland and take a gamble. If it doesn't work out, then I will be unhappy but at least I will have tried.

It's always better to know yes or no. It's better to get a 'no' and then move on, than just don't know and waste your time. You deserve something better than just wait your whole life for something you don't know if you'll get or not.

I understand that it can be difficult for her and that she needs time. But you have given her 4.5 years. That's more than enough.

Love / Polish People on Cheating? [39]

Some people do everything to avoid getting divorced, for religious reasons. And most married couples in PL (esp. older and/or outside big cities) try to follow Catholic values. As far as I've heard these things are not very uncommon.

But of course, there are people in Poland getting divorced too, esp. in Warsaw the divorce rate is pretty high. But on the other hand, people on the countryside are generally more religious than in Waw.

Love / Polish People on Cheating? [39]

In the younger generation people care less about this.

For example, if the woman is getting beaten up she should get divorced immediately, that's obvious for most people. But on the other hand people shouldn't get married if they are not sure about there feelings etc. So there must be a balance. In Western Europe people are getting married and divorced like it was some kind of tournament.

Life / Women in Poland dyeing hair red [30]

As said earlier here, it's mostly middle-aged/older women that dye their hair red. I haven't seen so many young Polish girls/woman do that.

Life / Questions about IKEA in Poznan [20]

Are you sure it's cheaper than IKEA in Germany?

For example cars are usually cheaper in Germany than in Poland.

Love / Help, Polish men are very complicated! [51]

Is hand-kissing flirting, or is it a Polish custom?!

It's an old tradition. You can see old men in Poland still kiss women's hands. It's something like shaking hands but a little bit more affectionate. But it's rare among younger people these days.

especially with the older generation (say 30 and over)

I would say over 60... hehe. :)

Love / Polish People on Cheating? [39]

Apparently where they're from (Bialystok) it's quite common for a lot of men to cheat on their other halves, and not too subtly either! They also said it's usual for the friends of the cheater, not to say anything to the cheatee and even help them to do the cheating like letting them use their flat etc
Again the religion aspect was brought up about how people will do anything to avoid getting a divorce if they (and more so their families) follow certain Catholic views as it's frowned upon to put it lightly!

I live in Bialystok too. I don't think cheating is more common in Poland than in other European countries. It happens too much everywhere. But I am sure that people that go abroad (to work etc) generally cheat more, probably because the probability of getting caught is almost zero.

Life / Polish hospitals and the medical system [10]

The hygiene is not always the best in public hospitals. You often have to bring your own toilet paper etc. They like to do surgical operations even if the medical indication for such operation is questionable.

But generally the medical knowledge is very high. And they take things seriously and do proper investigations. For less serious things they usually examine you more, do more tests etc. than in many Western European countries. They also admit more people to hospital than in WE, even for less serious conditions.

But they hygiene is the major problem. You are more likely to get nosocomial infectious complications here than in WE.

News / Euro Elections 4th June - Who will you vote for ? [110]

I'll vote for Marek Jurek's Prawica Rzeczypospolitej - the only
true Catholic-conservative party in Poland.

It will be interesting to see how many votes they'll get, since they failed to gain the required number of votes to get into the Polish national parliament in the last election.

Work / Any professional intensive polish language course in Krakow? [10]

I know several language schools in Krakow, but I don't know if they're good or not.

And intensive courses are usually much shorter than one year. But it depends on how you define the expression intensive course.

Language / Polish Language Pronunciation - Example Words and Phrases [178]

say.expressivo.com/ewa - Link to a website where you can write words/sentences and hear how they should be pronounced

But it's very important that you spell them correctly and use the proper Polish letters. Or else it will sound completely wrong.

Language / The Dative Case [62]

It will be the accusative case because the noun (what you want to buy, what you want to do etc.) is always the indirect object of the sentence. It's not because it ends in 'OWAĆ' or something like that.

The indirect object of a sentence will usually be in accusative case. Some exceptions are if the sentence is negated with 'nie', then it will be the genitive case. And some verbs govern a specific case. For example szukać governs the genitive case, so the noun will be in the genitive case.

I dearly hope your ironic or it's another reason for the Sweed stereotype in Norway

I am.

For those who don't know I can tell you that Scandinavian sense of humor is very ironically oriented. But usually not in a mean way.

Travel / Now Gdansk is tipped as a hot spot for 2009 [24]

Gdansk is really nice with a lot of water in the city. And it's not far if you want to go to some decent beaches. They started to advertise themselves later than Wawa and Krakow. But the city have a big potential and you can see that on the number of tourist that are now starting to visit the city.

make an EFFORT TO SMILE AT CUSTOMERS

Different cultures, different customs.

I'm a local patriot cause I was born in Bialystok

You would choose Pałac Branickich any day. ;)

Language / The Dative Case [62]

Any other rules I should try to use????

That some verbs always requires a specific case. For example szukać, słuchać and uczyć się always requires genitive for the direct object (including its adjective).

- Szukam dobrego hotelu (gen).
- Teraz uczę się historii (gen).

There is nothing that indicates that these verbs govern the genitive case. One just have to learn them by heart. But these are very common verbs, so it's quite important to know it.

But it's not difficult to use them. Just turn the direct object into genitive. You don't need to think of any special rules or constructions, because there are no.
