History / UPA - Ukrainian Insurgent Army. How they killed poles in Volhynia (1943). [139]

Erm... Ukraine doesnt even have money to pay the soldiers their money, their weapons and airforce are obsolete and little of what they actually have is usable whereas our are while not strong is reasonable, any war wouldnt last a month

We have love to our west neighbors. And love conquers all. I will personally put a flower into a Polish tank (by the way, those that were stolen recently?) and kiss a tankist Grzegosz.

You mean like...logic ?

"Sancta simplicita" said Ian Gus to an old woman who threw some dry branches into the fire, on which he was burnt. She didn't know what for this Czech genious is being murdered, but she felt a blind hatred for the very reason of her simplicity. Sokrates, you would make that woman blush with envy to your surpassing greatness in simplicity.

Love / Love my polish girlfriend alot but under pressure from family [166]

but as a nation we chose to stay and make the country better

How US and Australia came to be? UFO taught English to Indian tribes?

And ı have to add one more thing, except the 3rd 4th generation turks who borned abroad, The Turks who moved to Europe has one common thought/dream/plan stocking money as much as they can or retiring abroad with a good pension then turning back to Turkey one day. :) They even dont think to live abroad, they dont have fun of exploring a new culture. And this way of thinking cause problems like Adaptation.

This is mentality of greater majotrity of immigrants to go back home eventually. It has nothing to do with your nationality. How many Poles are working abroad? Are all of them willing to be buried there?

common property of turks

very narrow at best, morella

Wow, I m surprised..I see that asians r same more or less ;)

what?????????????

I want to ask specially those who are from different culture and in same situation like me?

Dear, friend. I wish you are happy with your life so leave her and cut this painful feeling short. The problem is not only with you. She will eat your heart out later unless you completely forget who you are. Religion, culture and all will be gone. You will fight between her and yourself - you loose and you will die inside as I did. Never do it. By the way, you can figure out what type of people certain cultures represent here and this, be sure, are majority. Find German, French, Bangladeshi, but don't do this one for your own sake.

completely assimilated and had not a bit of ruthenian in them

And then suddenly one beautiful October morning Cossacks woke up and said: "Oh, we had a dream that we are Ukrainians and no Polish like were our fathers, grandfather etc. Let's fight ourselves and whatever happens will be history of a new country". Cool.

Kievan Rus was never a powerful country because it was very sparsely populated, granted it was quite strong and advanced but definitely not more advanced or very definitely not stronger than contemporary polish duchy and later kingdom on account of very very low population

Show me why it was more advanced. Don't dodge my question this time.

The only reason the mongols ever stopped was because of the death of Genghis Khan, it had nothing to do with any sort of resistance in Rus

I didn't argue about that, but there was resistence in Kievan Rus'. Read Battle of the Kalka river with Mstislav lll of Kijiv in 1223. We had a defeat this time. People in the Carpathian mountains region also fought with Mongols to stop their advances.

Oh but we did, read up on battle of Legnica ( which we lost incidentally )

Pardon, didn't know about that. Interesting. This type of information I greatly appreciate.

The same Kopernicus who defended Torun against Teutonic Knights and was polish as hell ?:)

He was Prussian and spoke German, so according to your theory he was German 100%.
Stop arguing about that. He fought Teutonic knights because it was acceptable at that time to fight oneself like Cossacks and Bohdan Chmelnickij were Polish and fought themselves. It was Ok then. We can't understand, but these were rules of the past - fight oneself and you will rule the world.

On the contrary, i never claimed Ruthenians didnt have any culture or civilization or that it was inferior, polish culture had two things, it was much more attractive and much more dynamic, those traits do not mean that it was better simply that it would be adopted over the native culture.

Yes, you said. Look at what you wrote.

both culture and civilization were discontinued in favor of polonisation

What happened to culture and civilization? Maybe in some aspects it was polonized and only at the levels of state government, regular people guarded their culture, language, traditions and civilization more than you can think of. If it wasn't I wouldn't speak my language now, celebrate holidays, have my world view which is a lot different than yours.

much more dynamic

Better choice of words this time, Sokrates. Personally I don't see what could people of that time see in your culture with the exception of Poland's central position in Europe that richened its infrastructure on many levels and that as well as posibility to get a good well-paid job. Since you couldn't get a job without sucking on Catholic church's plate many changed religion and with that their true identity. Regular people though saved our culture for future generations.

I imagine he learned quite early on, given that he occupied the official post in the local administration he would have to

It is impossible for Polish noble to "lower" oneself to learning a "pagan" language. Let's stop debating Bohdan's nationality. He was Ukrainian and will always be for me like Copernicus is for you. It's pointless. He was very talented.

"He completed his schooling by 1620 and acquired a broad knowledge of world history and learned Polish and Latin. Later in addition to these languages he learned Turkish, Tatar, and French. Unlike many of the other Jesuit students, he did not embrace Roman Catholicism but remained Greek Orthodox" (/wiki/Bohdan_Khmelnytsky)

Ok, Sokrates, go to this link and verify my quotation. Bohdan learnt Polish in school with Latin. So he didn't speak this language before. Moreover, he never accepted Roman Catholicism even though he was probably barked after by religious schizophrenics. I think this time you'll shut up. But if you wish to argue more , don't mention historians (? -never found prof. Tarasiuk online) without first name and say what book contains this information, Sokrat.

History / UPA - Ukrainian Insurgent Army. How they killed poles in Volhynia (1943). [139]

Well he came from somewhere obviously

So no one knows - exactly as I said, Sokrates.

Kievan Rus seized to exist as a result of Polish cultural influence

Polish culture had nothing to do with Kievan Rus. Tribes were running around what is now Poland when Kievan Rus' was a powerful country. Majop shock to Kievan Rus' were hord of Mongols which were ravaging through almost all Eurasian continent. Check history on Ghinghis Khan and his grandson and the rest of its dynasty. Lucky RP which never tasted Mongols. What RP got to offer when Kopernicus (Prussian, by the way) died of hunger unrecognized. Kievan Rus' was rich not only culturally and religiously.

the only two connections were religion and ethnicity since both culture and civilization were discontinued in favor of polonisation.

you make me laugh - keep going. "civilization and culture were discontinued" - hahah- I know we where sitting on the trees and eating bananas when suddenly Polans came to bestow us with its so "rich culture" - haha.

concept of ukrainian nation did not exist back then

For you it won't exist even if you are grilled on BBQ with spices. I already said to you about Italians , Germans etc., which according to you didn't exist till 19th century.

Ah but was turkish his first language ? Polish was

How he communicated with Cossacks then? Polish are not able to learn Ukrainian. (Sounds rude, all the Polish I know and there are more than 10 say that my language is Russian - hahah , so I even don't want to start thinking that you can learn if you don't believe). Moreover, show me where it states that his language was Polish

his coat of arms indicate with most likelyhood that they were a polish family who settled in Ukraine

.Why are you keep on arguing when I proved to you that coat of arms he had was given as one of 47 coats of arms to Lithuanian bojars in 1413, October 2. Position and one of your father doesn't give you nationality, remember. If your father works as a construction worker in US, are you then automatically, American? Think, then talk.

History / UPA - Ukrainian Insurgent Army. How they killed poles in Volhynia (1943). [139]

historian Feliks Koneczny was claiming that Chmielnicki's father came to Ukraine from Masovia

One Polish historian who doesn't have a vast support since all the materials I got say that it is not known.

I can't be bothered to look for other evidences though.

Exactly

saying that the cossack uprisings were a polish/Ukrainian conflict

I agree it wasn't only issue between two different nations. It had some inner conflict as well: social, economical. Of course, I think many fought for better life and whoever is above him, be it Polish or Ukrainian, didn't matter. Ukrainian lords died from cossacks' sword too, no doubt. So I agree with you, Matyjasz.

Nathan there was NO UKRAINE at that time

Kievan Rus' preceded Ukraine as an empire since it comprised many nations. Later on Ukraine as a nation started to form on grounds of Kievan Rus' and its cultural, linguistical and religious traditions. Something like Ottoman empire and Turkey. You can't say that the latter one started to exist in 1921-22, right?

multinational political and social class

Of course, there were people like Moldovians, Bialorusy, Lithuanians, Polish, Germans etc. But agree that majority of them were Ukrainians. For me it does not actually matter. I like the fact that it was a multinational community.

polish clothes

his father was a courtier of a polish noble

Polish clothes? Since when working for a person of other nationality makes you one of the same nationality? I worked in US, am I American?

he spoke fluent polish

He spoke fluently Turkish. Was he a Turk as well? I speak Polish - am I a Pole?

he was not Ukrainian himself

Who was he? Mystery.

History / UPA barbarian murders on Polish and Jewish neighbors during WW2 [150]

Ukraine made lots of mistakes in its history. I wish we could go back and change it. In some parts of it it SHOULD have been more brutal and uncompromising like many of its neighbors.Unfortunately it wasn't. Poland should be grateful to have such a nice buffer, where Mongols, Tatars and Russians broke their necks. It took toll on Ukraine as well to keep all of them off sometimes successfullt , sometimes - not. And what is the most pitiful is the fact that having all these enemies from the East , it had a snake on its chest in form of RP.

Ukraine had a completely different history than Poland. Just a simple example : during the communism I couldn't go to my church because it didn't exist officially and my parents would end up in prison. I was baptized in an Russian Orthodox church even though my parents and I are Ukrainian Catholics. Publishing was over 90% in Russian, what about Poland? When I took a little flag I made of paper with blue and yellow colors to school in 1988!!!, my teacher said:"You should be ashamed of yourself". Can you imagine that in Poland with your flag? Soviet Union was pouring materials into satellites just to keep 'em quiet whereas it didn't care much about the countries out of which it consisted. The major goal was to control as much as possible under one boot. I wouldn't even start talking of mass deportations to Kazakhstan, Siberia etc. which happened throughout all USSR's existence.

It is poverty-stricken. But time will come it will be a rich and prosperous country. Polish will come and enjoy their vacations there and Ukrainians will have a lot to offer.

Beside Ukraine some "blind spots" also (Lithuania, Latvia , Estonia) and many others don't have data. Interesting how they estimate IQ. Hmmm. IQ league of Europe? French and Greeks are mentally challenged? Haha, but Germans still keep up with Poland. That's good, Bratwurst, you really enjoy German kielbasa. Bon appetit! I think that you can put me into "crazy" category because only in that state you can waste your time on answering these questions of yours.

an average Joe will instantly build his own version of history using it and stick by it no matter what so by all means believe what you will.

It is not nice to describe oneself so bluntly in a letter to somebody else, Sokrates :)

as a country and as a nation completely unprepared to deal with your history your reaction being tangible proof.

"to deal with history"? ahhaha
you sucked up to Bohdan and I found out that his ancestors were in Lithuania (from the link you presented). Then you say that you "will stick to that he's Polish". Ok, stick!

"To deal with history" we are unprepared? Yes, you are right :) my pants are spoiled now.

i will stick with Polish rather than Lithuanian

Bratwurst, you know whta you said in "blind spot". I took it from several of your statement, not only this one. "Eurovision , hmmm...." You can pretend whatever you want, but I see it. Again if one person makes you make a generalization about a subject, then you are in a deep "blind spot".

That's why I call him an idiot!

Word "idiot" comes from Greek, meaning a person who is not interested in politics and , thus, not caring of his/her future. Do you think I am an idiot talking to you on this forum, Bratwurst?

Thank you Prince. Sokrates still can't overcome the fact that Chmelnickij was Ukrainian. He wants to have at least some link to a great general. Well, Sokrates, he had your coat of arms, be proud.

We curse his name

Do what you please, but I respect his military expertise and also the fact that was able to put a stamp in many countries' history that even Sokrates looks for connections. Chmelnickij was and is a Ukrainian hero and I don't give a crap what other nations think of him.

But I think you should know our perception of that period

No we don't.

You'd both be better off denying any connection to him

My pants are barely hanging on my hips.

where he fled to Canada not to die of famine

I didn't flee my city which I love a lot. "Not to die of famine", - you should be ashamed of what you said, sasha. I don't think you would be, because you will never understand it (pray not to live it through in your life)

he's overestimating the poor Lviv

What does it mean? Try to write more clearly.

He's the best specimen of truly retarded benderovian mind when everyone around including Poles, Russians, Ukranians or (oh my gosh... Germans) who doesn't share their thuggish views (i.e. the vast majority of Ukranians) are enemies.

I don't consider Poles, Germans or Ukrainians my enemies. What makes you think that. I respect Poles and their culture is pretty close to mine, Polish kitchen is one of the best in the world, I think. Germans made some bad stuff in their history, but it's history, we have to move on. My real enemies are people with "blind spots" and "annexation" and those who say that "Ukrainians don't understand what language you speak, outcasts". I won't try to persuade you on that. My Ukrainian is as pure as water from Carpathian mountains, I wish you could appreciate it.

their times went by continuing to act as peculiar people

I am at the present time and I still here barking from the enemy camp. I have to shoot in the air to let the dogs shut up.

Russian tragedy

Your tragedy is that chauvinism doesn't leave your blood-thirsty brains. Build Russia, make its people rich and happy , but don't even dare to look at my country with your wars and undermining policy. Putin-like suckers will be thrown down some day and russia will become a normal country which cares about economy and its people. It is the biggest and richest country and still you can't but dribble with salive watching at Ukraine.

I am nazi for defending my country? Sasha, don't be a kid and stop pretending. Come to Ukraine, have fun, enjoy everything it offers, but be a human and stop your chauvinistic behaviour. Grow up.

I really was interested in learning more about Ukraine....till I met Natty that is! :(

To learn means to accept, I can't see that acception from what I heard from you. And if one guy like me can change your interests - trust me, you was never interested in it.

Sokrates, you still didn't give me answers to so many questions. What about Abdank coat of arms. Looks like Chmel was a Lithuanian , huh?

Greed creates violence, violence brings death and anger. This in turn brings more violnce and more anger - until there seems to be no way out or back. Life is so complicated that it is even difficult to imagine. Greed and arrgance will destroy the world as it is and I think it is for better - let ferns grow here again - they deserve it more than homo f*kience does.

Sokrates, the link you gave doesn't have anything saying about Bohdan's father at all. So, I am waiting you will give me something I can ponder over. Still explain why he was baptized in a Greek Orthodox church being born to "Polish parents" when "Orthodox Christianity was considered an inferior religion"? ( look at your link below:

poland.gov.pl/Bohdan,Chmielnicki,(1595,%E2%80%93,1657),1962.html

Coat of arms from the link I found was given to 47 Lithuanian rodow bojarskich in 1413 w Horodle.
pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unia_horodelska

Does it mean all of these families became Polish in one beautiful October evening? For the simple reason of getting a meaningless piece of a relic? So Sokrates, take it easy and accept the facts. Still I don't mind that you feel proud of a talented Ukrainian general. He is worth of admiration, at least at the battlefield.

Michał Chmielnicki a polish noble

Sokrates, stop it, don't make me laugh my pants off! Give me a source, some link , a trustworthy book or author where it says that his father was Polish. He belonged to a clan and could put a seal on certain letters (love letters), but that was it.

came with his family

?

his father was a polish noble living under Kraków

I talked to a Greek today, he said that Bohdan's father was born in Athens.
By the way, Bohdan was baptized in Greek Orthodox church (notice word "greek" - that was why Greeks are now claiming Bohdan Chmielnicki to be second Alexander the Great).

Isn't it strange for a Polish (so fervent about religion - nothing wrong with when it is moderate) noble to baptize his son in a Ukrainian church + not leaving him with nobility title which was later granted to his son in 1659 ( 2 years after Chmel's death)?

We KNOW

Sokrates, coats of arms could have been purchased or given by a king if you were a good fighter and did a lot for the crown or a good sucker as well. Your idea that it is something sacred, given by king Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, is preposterous at best. "It is documented" - what are these documents? You asked me "how does it feel", Sokrates. It feels nice to see Poles so anxious to make foreign heroes their own. You never answered me about Leonardo da Vinciewicz and Fridrich Nitszchewskij. I also read that Alexander the Great was actually born in Tarnow and was son of Mieszko l.

Matyjasz, "blind spot" for Brutswart was not only Ukraine , but all Baltic region. He even mentioned something of Eurovision. Hahaha. I see it is impossible for you to get out of this limited perception of the world. Germans wrote many books on Ukraine compared to Poles. I have met young students from Germany , as I have already mentioned, and I was surprised that they knew so much. I am cool, don't worry, I am just looking for someone to talk sense in this forum, but all I hear are "blind spots" , Eurovision (haha) and annexation. Don't you have anybody willing to talk intellegently. I am willing to learn new stuff and not waste my time on nonsense.

I don't need support and knock on somebody's door. I am just replying to Brust's question. Germans happen to know more than closer neighbors - that's all. For Bratwurst, it will remain "blind spot" till he is in his grave. That's life.
