I travelled to PL 3 times since i turned 18. In 1997 (can't remember the date) they changed the rules for conscripting people in the army. If you are in school or hold another passport in addition to your PL passport then you are exempt from serving. Last summer when i re-entered PL via train from the czech rep. the border guard noticed on my polish passport that i had not yet served in the army. He asked where i lived and when i said canada he said oh ok.

You can travel without any worries!

Sounds like you don't know much about nuclear power. It's ok, not many people do. It's actually very safe here in canada. Canada has its own nuclear plant design (CANDU - read about it - google) which is one of the best designs in the world. Chernobyl wasn't really an accident - commie scientists were doing a very foolish experiment for "show." They by-passed many safety features and were very careless. I don't have time to get into the details but you can google it.

Now obviously wind power (like off the danish coast), solar power, etc. are the safest methods of power generation, they just don't produce enough juice.

How do i know this you ask? I used to work in a nuclear plant as an engineer!


Nuclear plants are very profitable. Yes the gov't has to help finance the (10 year long) construction but when it starts producing electricity it also produces lots of $$$. Americans want to build these plants and so does my provinces gov't.

Mostly coal power. However in the past couple of years Poland and Lithuania have been discussing the construction of a nuclear power plant outside of vilnius - hopefully they go ahead with it (lots of power, clean and maybe they'll shutdown some of those coal plants).

As for renewable/environmentally friendly/solar/wind etc. power plants? Nope. A couple of days ago in the news i heard that Poland, USA and Russia (i think) care least about the environment.

I think living together before getting married is an excellent idea. 50% of marriages in Canada end in divorce! Why? Because people get married too quickly - they don't spend enough time getting to know each other and then they realize they're not compatible. Then starts the stress, lawyers, ....

However, ideally you should not live together. Instead, see each other everyday or whatever but go to your home at the end of the day - or take turns spending the night at each others places:) It would probably be best it terms of determining if you're "compatible."

Well i'm Polish-Canadian (born in PL, grew up in Can.) so I have a pretty good idea of what you're thinking. My parents wouldn't be very proud of me if i brought home an African women and my family in PL would be shocked! An interracial relationship WILL definetly cause problems/embarrassment for your family and theres really no way to go around this. Poland has been a homogeneous country for quite some time and most poles (especially the older ones) just simply don't like non-whites. I go to PL every couple of years or so and i still hear some people (again mainly the older generation) calling non-whites "diabel" (devil) or "malpa" (monkey). It's terrible but eventually as PL receives more and more immigrants things will change.

You seem very positive and optimistic, so my advice to you is to do what makes YOU happy. You will have to put up with a lot of "crap" but if you feel strong enough go ahead and maybe you'll change the mentality of the people around you. I'm sure things will change once your boyfriend/husband gets a job, shows that he's hard working and able to support you + future kids your family will get to like him.

If you want my $0.02 about this subject, personally i would not get involved in an interracial relationship simply because there are too many cultural differences - especially newly arrived immigrants. I used to study at a very multicultural University here in canada and it was very difficult to connect with people of other cultures.

Also becarefull, this guy may also be looking for an EU passport...

It has nothing to do with Polish/british sterotypes dude. A lot of girls would have acted the same or at least thought the same thing. Women are insecure and don't trust men - maybe this one had a bad experience with a horn dog ex-bf.
