Life / Polish Birthday Party [10]

From what I know birthdays are more important. Namedays were a "communist" tradition and brithdays came from the west ( mainly Germany ). That's why people who were knee deep into communism prefered namedays. Some old people who miss "old" Poland or hate "Germany linked to birthdays" still prefer namedays. Even though birthdays are celebrated more frequently, most people (between family members) still give a little present or at least wish somebody good health and stuff like that.

News / Microsoft Poland whitens a black face in its advert [130]

It wouldn't have worked anyway, there's a woman in the photo and she's obviously a menager or some sort of a boss. As we all know in Poland women are not allowed to get higher positions then man. This photo would be a cause of laughter in many companies.

History / Who lost WWII (besides Poland)? [42]

As for my overall contribution to the forum i think you'll find i do an awful lot more than moan :) As for this particular thread, there is one obvious conclusion 'Everybody lost'.

I think you bring a lot of resourceful posts to the forums, that's why I was a little bit baffled when I saw your post. There's also a lot of people being whingy about those whingers I suppose :)

It's easy to summarize like that "everyone lost" but you can summarize each thread like that "politics" - "pliticians are liers eot". Maybe somebody wanted some more precise detailes than "everyone lost"..

Beside there was so many threads about Poland during WW2 created by whingy Poles that somebody finally named one "beside Poland" to underline that fact that he doesn't want to hear about Poland in this thread.. ;)

History / Who lost WWII (besides Poland)? [42]

How many more of these 'we were the victim' threads are we going to say

I think you're slightly exaggerating.. he just started the thread and stated that he doesn't want to talk about Poland, just about other countries that could have lost something due to WW2. It looks more like you are a little bit biased and allergic to word "Poland". Come on, what do you suggest we should be talking about in a ww2 thread. Sad stories? Yeah, All conflicts were about having a coco and visiting theme parks... I dunno where those sad stories are coming from... I'm pretty sure you can bring something valuable to this thread instead of being whingy : o

History / Who lost WWII (besides Poland)? [42]

Actually there're only two opinions on that: right and wrong.

Well, some people see black and white, and some people see shades of gray. And usually the former is the wrong approach because there is no "all black" or "all white" in this world.

Without Hitler attacking the USSR there would have been no D-Day; at least not in 1944.

That wasn't up to Russians if Hitler's gonna attack them or not. And you state it like it was.

History / Who lost WWII (besides Poland)? [42]

The USSR was the one which brought Nazi Germany down to its knees militarily,

That's a relative thing, as many opinions as there are people here.

What would've been the better choice: 45 years of German occupation or of Russian?

Well I wonder why did they vote for Russia in the "Whose occupation you want?" great Polish voting?". Pretty strange thing to do. And seriously nobody wanted Soviet Union then. As somebody said earlier each country was fighting for its own reasons - the same thing was with Russia.. Russia wasn't helping anyone but itself. And grabbed a pretty nice chunk of meat because of that..

UK, Ireland / Poles top of UK class [41]

So why do they have to come to the u.k?, whats wrong with pooland.

Lots of students from different countries take adventage of various exchange programmes and travel to study outside of their own country.. that's valuable experience.

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

A person who is a no body in GB etc can be a somebody in Poland because he is able to flash his dollars.

But that's just for a short period. Then he will have to prove himself anyway. And yes, I'm Polish.

You are not Polish and should not comment

Your nickname should be bollecks not "bolek", I'm sick of certain polish mischief makers making such a bad image of our country. You are an exception as Szwed said. All my polish mates are open to people from different cultures and are always happy to welcome anyone from abroad. Of course there are some parochial, simple minded people like you, but don't put your point in such way - like you are speaking for all the Poles.

Travel / Wot? No beer allowed on Polish PKP? [30]

The funny thing is that those train guards won't touch a group of completely pissed loud chavs, they will only pick on some other normal people who are silentely enjoying their one or two beers...

Language / PARANOJA -- MISUSED IN POLISH? [20]

But in colloquial Polish paranoja is usually used to negatively assess a bad situation, not a person.

Not bad, just an unclear situation which goes pretty much along the lines. As for overusing words, you're generalising, most people have words that they overuse, it's a one person's "rage", some people say "Paranoja", other overuse "matko święta" or "git" or "wporzo" or "wypas"... sometimes using certain words is just trendy. Today it is this word tomorrow it'll be a different word. I've always seen it as something obvious...

Life / Warnings about Life in Poland [71]

Don't take any sleeper trains as Polish people are likely to gas your cabin and steal all your belongings.

Come on, not polish people, just bad and evil people...

UK, Ireland / UK HATRED TOWARDS POLES GROWING? [122]

Oh good god, mongo slavs unable to find a rebuttal amongst them so resort to accusations again.

It's like dealing with that retarded Pole in work, she should be nowhere near a computer, even a mop is too complicated for her.

Is trashing this thread with the utter childish nonsense you're spouting making you feel any better? I believe people who have anything to say against poles are able to create something slightly more constructive than this. Dragging the discussion to a level of an uneducated snot seems to be your idea of midnight fun.. everybody can see that you're just an attention *****

Paniusiu, kielo no cykocu?

I'm guessing that's "What time is it?" Silesian version is something like "Wiela na blacie?"

Work / Specific qualifications for a specific career [23]

Some career paths are specialized to a certain extent after which, it's hard to work in a different trade. I don't think I could do anything beside programming and software/hardware development. You can probably do more things after worthless philosophy but nothing from the specialized proffesional branch. And stories about employing hobbyists without education are usually bollocks...

Language / Help with Polish email address. [7]

Hasn't he told you/ written the address down for you? It's probably pretty hard to spell polish characters to somebody who ain't polish and doesn't know the language. Anyways, special characters are usually forbidden in e-mail names - so that shouldn't be the problem. Maybe you just have some kind of typo in the address..

Life / How do Poles view Polish-Americans? [8]

It's great that you want to know more about Poland and Polish. It's probably hard right now to experience what our grandparents and great grandparents experienced because they lived in troubled times - those times have fortunately ended. I think you'll be recieved well, although unfamiliarity with polish may be a hindrance if you, for example, want to find the exact place your family lived in. My great grandparents also lived in Krakow during that time, it's pretty funny and strange because I've never been there, in their former house despite living pretty close to Krakow.

Language / Help with Polish email address. [7]

Can someone please tell me how i type a polish email address.

Come on, is this a joke? There no "polish email address" there are different email accounts hosts in the world and all their email look the same you've got 3 parts:

login - which is the name of whoever you want to send your email to. It doesn't have to be his real name, it can be a nickname

@ - at sign separates login name from the domain name.
hostname - hostname/domain name of the company that hosts email service.
domain code - a top level or second level domain code or a country domain code
adding all the ingredients you'll have:

login@hostname.domain-code

In this case there's a possibility that the country domain code is ".pl".

I'm afraid nobody can guess your friend's email, and there's no magic involved in sending emails to one.

Life / How do Polish people see Deaf people in Poland? [14]

In the UK

There was a conversation about that not so long ago on LBC, that people - especially various services don't treat impaired with due respect and care. Many callers were furious..

As for Poland, I live near a school for audially impaired kids and from what I've seen people don't react to them in any special way, just treat them like other kids. That might not be the case somewhere in the country.

All Poles claim Poland

Bollocks, I claim that UK and Ireland are better than Poland. That's why I'm gonna move there.
