Genealogy / Landowski/Stempora Family [7]

Hi Debbie,
You would have to join this group to be able to send a private message. From what I have learned, the STEMPORA name is very unusual and there are not many left in Poland.

Clement Stempora was my Grandfather. He married my Grandmother Mary after her first husband. Bartholomew Stempora had an accidental death. Clement and Bartholomew were brothers. They had two other brothers, Adam and Josef.

Does this look familiar?

Genealogy / Any info on the Sniatkowski surname? [3]

I have just finished doing lots of research on the surname ZWIATKOWSKI. I found that the "T" in Polish looks like a T, but it is really an "L" with a slash through it.

Anyway go onto the site below which shows a map with areas where the SNIATKOWSKI name is located. There are several choices, written in blue... so be sure to ckick on all of them. There are some on Suwalki.

Genealogy / Oleksiuk [5]

data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsys~shtetlexp5b

Go to the the above website, Jewish Gen. org and this should give you the location of your village. There are two listed; but according to the maps they seem to be in about the same area, which is North of Warsaw, and between Gdansk on the left, and Kaunas, on the right.

Were they Catholic? If so I can see if I can find the Archdiocese that the church would be in.

I also found this article on Dogpile.com, which talks about a Sawmill in Danzig, now Gdansk, that was used as a workcamp during WWll.

Genealogy / Oleksiuk [5]

Hi Bobby,

Here it is: jewishgen.org/databases

Then scroll down to _Eastern Europe_ and click on _The Jewish Gen Shtetl Seeker_
Click on _search for places by name_

go to -Town Search_ and enter the name of the town, leaving all other choices empty, except for choosing the _Sounds Like Search Method_

It should give you several choices and then you can check them out on the map of your choice.

Genealogy / Surnames: Trzaskowski/Szamlewska [15]

Hi Michele,

Welcome!

Let's start by you telling us what you do know, so we can help you. It's best to start from what you know and work backwards.

Such as their first names, where they lived, when they were born, names of their children, where they died, etc.

Genealogy / Surnames: Trzaskowski/Szamlewska [15]

Michele,

Do you know when they came to the US?, or where they lived here in the States?

Were your Uncle and Aunt here, were they married, and what was their surname?

I will try to find what I can on Ancestry, but I could use this added info.

Thanks, Grandesande

Genealogy / Surnames: Trzaskowski/Szamlewska [15]

Michele,

I was born in Jersey City, and lived in North Arlington, Wallington, and North Plainfield. Currently, my family is in southern NJ and I am in northern California.

All four of my Grandparents are from Poland. I am currently trying to find their villages in Poland, also.

Are you in Jersey?

GS

Michele,

Go to moikrewni.pl/mapa/ and type in the surname Tzraskowski
and click 'Szukac'. It will show you all the places where that name is located.
Then do the same for the surname Szamlewska.

If you compare the results, there are only two places that have both of those surnames: m.Bydgaszcy and Szczecin.

Perhaps both grandparents came from the same town/village and one of these would be the place?

Genealogy / Kołakowski - Russian records to Polish or English [5]

Hi,

I can help you a bit... if you go to the following:

esisnet.com/~jackbowmanstc/russian1.htm

It will give you a Format for Russian Polish Birth, Marriage, and Death records. It will also do the same for Napoleonic records. (check the options at the bottom of the page)

While it will not translate your record, it will give you an idea of the location on the record of dates, names and relationship.

Life / Polish Fairytales [25]

Hi Franek,

Thank you for sharing this list.
I, like Barbara Thompson, am a second generation American with a singular ancestry: Polish. I will be getting some of these stories, as I am trying to catch up on my heritage. My grandparents were concentrating on being Americans, and shared very little with me.
