Feedback / Request for translation deleted? [25]

If those titles are too general...what should the titles read?

For instance if I wanted to post a topic and wanted a recipe translated from Polish into
English..What would my title read??

What is wrong with the post that it was put into Trash Can? Has this question been
asked before by this person?

I'm sorry for all the questions. I'm trying to learn how this site works.

Thank You for info.

Life / Poles' tolerance towards other Races [190]

I wasn't going to reply to this discussion because I don't like to post too much personal info..but I agree with Amathyst, when she posted that hundreds of people die from Aids

because of blood transfusions..my Dear beloved Father was among them. He died in
1993 and I still grieve for him everyday.

Life / What kind of toys are popular with children in Poland today [21]

Thank You for the additional help.

Play Station 3 is really expensive at this time and also not age appropriate for a child of
only 5. He needs more practical toys and other necessary items.

Thank You Krysia, for coming to my defense. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my questions.

Life / What kind of toys are popular with children in Poland today [21]

Sorry...I should have asked if batteries are universal...same kind all over the world.
Since I've never been to Poland or Europe, I have no idea if the same types of batteries are used worldwide. I would hate to send a child a battery operated toy and find out later that replacement batteries were not available.

On the subject of batteries for toys, are they expensive in Poland, are they readily available everywhere?? A, AA, C, D and so on.

Thank You for info.

Love / How to make good impression to his Polish parents? [19]

I agree with Wroclaw and Krysia..bring a nice bouquet of flowers and maybe a small gift that can only be bought in England..like maybe a nice box of chocolates.

Good Luck to you and Krysia meeting your boyfriends family..be on you best behavior :)
and smile a lot :)

I remember when my hubby came to meet my parents for the first time...he brought my
Mom a bouquet of roses..I don't know what impressed her more, the nice gesture of
getting roses or that my hubby had on his Marine Corp. uniform...He was so handsome!

Life / What kind of toys are popular with children in Poland today [21]

Thank You for the suggestions and I'm also happy that batteries are available as many boy toys are remote control..cars and action figures.

Since after the holidays many toys are on clearance sales we plan to buy a bunch of stuff for this boy and also some nice things for his Mom. She has had a very difficult life, abandoned by her own Mom, raised by her Grandmother who has passed away.

LOL..Anything on wheels and makes noise, sounds just like the toys that my grandsons like to play with.

Boys will be boys no matter where they live.

Life / What kind of toys are popular with children in Poland today [21]

My Mother is getting a package ready to send to family in Poland. This family has a little boy about 5 years old. We would like to include some toys for this boy and wanted to know if he would be interested in toys that a popular in the US, some of which have batteries which we would include but are batteries available in Poland? The same kind as in the US..AA, C, D and so on.

I would appreciate any suggestions as this family is very poor and we want to send them some nice stuff.

Life / 16th birthday in Poland? [9]

Grzegorz...here is a link for info on Quinceanera

quinceanera-boutique.com/quinceaneratradition.htm

I don't know if in Poland the 16th birthday is a big celebration as in USA. Some families
have big parties for a 16th birthday and other families only celebrate Names Day.

Travel / What attracts tourist to Poland? [54]

I've never been to Poland so if I ever have the chance I would love to see my extended family and take a guided tour to see as much of Poland as possible. My Mom has been to Poland a few times and she went to the area that she grew up in, it's part of the Ukraine now.

Food / Pierogi (polish Dumpling) Lovers Here???? [76]

Food / Magii Sauce? [5]

In some of the local Polish stores in my area of IL they still sell Maggi but I can't remember the brand name. I called my Mom to ask her about this and she said that Maggi is not like Worcestershire sauce, has a completely different taste and it's used in soups, sauces and other things..like pot roast. I've never used Maggi as most of my Polish recipe books ask for bouillon. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Food / Magii Sauce? [5]

You can substitute Maggi with instant bouillon..I use Wyler's Instant bouillon in my pot roast recipes. Maggi is a favoring..sometimes in liquid form or dry granules or cubes. Can be in chicken flavor, beef, asian and a few other flavors.

UK, Ireland / Male Ballroom dance partner required in Dublin [16]

Amathyst..sorry didn't mean to offend you. I didn't know if you were joking or serious.
I'm still trying to get to know people on this board..some are serious, some are jokers
and so on...LOL some are very rude.

Some that I thought were children typing in text are actually adults..go figure.

UK, Ireland / Male Ballroom dance partner required in Dublin [16]

Just this past Friday my hubby and I had the pleasure of seeing the "Dancing with the Stars tour" in Illinois. It was fabulous. We had such a nice time and the dancers were

great. I don't know if the male dancers are "usually gay" but the ones I saw are either married or paired with their dance partner. Just because a guy likes to dance doesn't mean he's gay.

Food / Pierogi (polish Dumpling) Lovers Here???? [76]

Good Luck with your business venture. In my area of IL we have a lot of Polish restaurants and Pierogi are always a big hit. I like most fillings except meat..usually taste like sawdust..too dry and bland. My favorites are potato/cheese/onion, cabbage/mushroom and all types of different fruits like blueberry, apple, plum.

My Mom still makes pierogi and they are very tasty but I usually just buy them ready made...

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

I agree with Eurola, most people are racist to some extent. Many of us are afraid of the
unknown.

When I was a child we lived in Chicago in an area that had a lot of different nationalities.
My little brother's best friends were Chinese, they called my brother by his Polish name
not the American version. Everyone was nice to each other as we were all immigrants. We never had problems socializing with people of different color.

Years later my parents moved near Humbolt Park, the area was changing, had a mixture of Polish and Spanish families, everyone was nice to each other. But a few years after

living there our apartment was broken into, my Mom was sleeping when this happened
and the White Man held a knife to her throat and wanted all the valuable..LOL what valuables?? we didn't have much. My Mom went into shock, the man took the jewelry box that did have my Dad and Mom's nice jewelry. Thank God that he did not hurt my

Mom. During this whole ordeal my brother and his friends were sitting on the front stairs
and didn't know what was going on inside. By the time my Mom could get up from bed
and scream, the man was long gone and the Police never did find him. We moved shortly
afterwards because my Mom couldn't sleep in that apartment, she was constantly afraid
of every noise.

My parents bought a house in a real nice area. I had just graduated from High School and got my first job in Downtown Chicago. I didn't drive at the time and depended on

bus service. I had to take 3 buses to work, going there wasn't bad but coming home
at night was scary. But the evil lurked in our home area, a young white boy who would
try and grope me when I'd be walking home at night. I would freeze and could never
get a good look at him until one night I got a good look at this face and called the Police.
We searched the area but couldn't find him. One night as my boyfriend (my Hubby) and I were driving home, I spotted this boy with a group of other boys. We got out of the car

and approached these boys and asked this boy where he lived because we wanted to
talk to his parents and let them know what he has been doing. He took us to his home
and his Grandmother answered the door. She said that she was his guardian, I told her
want was happening and she grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened us. We ran out of there so fast, got home and called the Police to file a complaint against the boy and his

grandmother. The boy only got a warning because he was a minor and his grandmother
was mentally challenged.

So far all our encounters with bad people have been White people, but that was about
to change.

Shortly after I had our first daughter, my hubby at that time was a TV repairman (going to school to get his Engineering Degree). He worked in the Cabrini Green area in Chicago

one day he was approached by 3 black guys with guns, one guy got in our car, the other
two guys told my hubby to go behind a billboard sign, hubby knew that if he went there
he would die so he decided to fight for his life, during the fight the gun went off and the
guy in our car drove up and the other two guys jumped in and they drove off leaving my
hubby on the ground bleeding and badly hurt. Someone must have called the Police because shortly afterwards they arrived and rescued my hubby. They took him to the

hospital emergency room, he had broken ribs, broken hand and lots of bruises but
Thank God he was alive. Since then he hates ghetto blacks..who have nothing better to do then attack innocent people be it white or black people, doesn't make a difference to

low life.

I just want to also say that we have friends that are Mexican, Black and other nationalities. What counts is what kind of person you are not your race.

Sorry for the long read.

p.s. When I first met my hubby, my family was against me dating him because he is
Ukrainian/Polish. My family survived the Wolyn massacre, which I knew nothing about
but after getting to know him and his family they finally got used to the idea that I
would marry this guy. We've been married for 37 years and going strong.
