Language / Nice way to say the name? [22]

Gosia, Gosiunia, Gosiuńka, Gosiaczek, Małgosia

Marzenka is correct. Can't think of any other, sweet variation of the name.

Language / Slang words like man, dude [29]

Ziomek/Ziom is a person from an old country, especially when met abroad. Koleś is a cute word for a buddy.

Life / WHAT DO YOUNG POLES SEE IN RAP CRAP? [63]

People are still dancing at night clubs to "something" that sounds like disco music, it's just more vicious. You really have to do a lot shakin'. lol. Alright, I grew out of it.

I can't even imagine what they will be dancing to in the next decade!

Osiol, your avatar got a Mexican look. What's up?

Life / WHAT DO YOUNG POLES SEE IN RAP CRAP? [63]

A preference for music changes with age. Our parents or grandparents did not like The Beatles or Elvis Presley. Right?
Rap is pretty crude but it expresses the singers mood... Not everybody can recite words just right to the beat. I happen to like this rap song. The words are pretty subjective, but you can't deny the rhythm is quite pleasant to the ear.

I don't care for 'white boys" rap, including polish. No matter how much they try, it's not 'it'.

Love / How Many Dates Before Sex in Poland? [86]

Yeah... like I want to know ALL his rides around the block or I want to disclose mine.
Everybody lies in this department. Does it it really matters anyway? It's just a psychological crap...I'm his (hers) the most important 'it'. Yeah...right.

News / Should Poland let in refugees from USA ? [80]

No wonder the money is drained from the system. Picking up garbage it's the least the people on public aid can do instead of staying at home smoking crack.

News / Should Poland let in refugees from USA ? [80]

I know that Acorn gives advise how to make cash being a prostitute and not to pay income tax, so i would not be surprised if there is a pamphlet how to turn food stamps into cash to pay for drugs... :)

News / Should Poland let in refugees from USA ? [80]

Słowianin comes from the word 'słowo', given by the Germans. Brak słowo to be exact.

Are you sure... Slowianin comes from the word "sława" which means fame. In archaic polish it was słava". Every polish Knight would gear himself to fight the enemy with the word "słava, słava". So, if he perished..he was famous and in the legends...

Many old slavic names end with "slawa' or 'slaw" for that reason.

News / Twelve coal miners dead. [23]

It shows how fragile our life is. The workers may have said see you later on the way out, or may have kissed their loved ones before going off to work only to never comeback. R.I.P.

green technology anywhere I can, so all of these damned mines will be closed one day.

Apparently, there is still a need for the mines to be open and for people to work there, not only in Poland. I just wish that today's technology would be able to detect the gas before it explodes. Not everything can be substituted with green technology, if it ever will.

Genealogy / Name Identification from an old passport [17]

ze strony ojca: Wawrzynca Stolarza.
Polish names are conjugated. It makes sense now.

It's like the father's name is Wawrzyniec Stolarz, but the kids on the father's side are referred to as born to Wawrzynca Stolarza.

That's how i see it.

Genealogy / Name Identification from an old passport [17]

Hmmm, really..I never seen 'H' written like this even in archaic polish. It looks more like 'W' and the rest of the letters support "Wawrzyniec".

Besides, the name is spelled Heronim..

History / US snubs Poland over WW II ceremony? [75]

I like Poland and a lot of its people, but I don't like the attitude that everything the US does is wrong. That is mostly what I get from the ppl on this forum. It doesn't matter what year it is, or who is Prez, they will find something to complain about. It is their nature. How silly of me to try to reframe a situation to illustrate how unfair the accusation!

You do realize that there is only a tiny fraction of really polish people here. So the asinine US bashing is not done by them alone. OK, maybe a couple of people who got their a** kicked here because they thought they will be picking dollars of the trees, but instead they had to work.

Unfortunately, this the sentiment in Europe. Let them think whatever they want. The USA will get into a** kicking mode again no matter what whiners and complainers think.

Life / POLISH HOSPITALITY STILL ALIVE AND WELL? [17]

You're right frd about the more exotic food that younger Poles will treat their guests with and I've noticed they are fond of Mediterranean dishes and BBQ. It is sure much faster to prepare than making pierogi and bigos! Nonetheless, still a lot of food on the table...and not taking "no, I'm full, thanks". I have lots of family and friends across different regions of Poland. Still the same.

I visited also two households in France, the last time I was in Europe. There was also plenty of food, but most was bought and only some prepared at home. Nowhere near the amounts as in Poland, but certainly enough. And, I liked not having any platters of food put in front of me to have some more and more..., when I've stopped eating already.

Life / POLISH HOSPITALITY STILL ALIVE AND WELL? [17]

Polish hospitality is alive and well. Every time I go to Poland I'm sick and tired of duplicate dinners and suppers. Nobody seems to understand "no, thanks I just ate". It's kind of sweet, but also annoying at times. There is no age barrier, so the 'communist' era excuse of food shortage is not the reason... Even in the communist "era" guests were never hungry and the abundance of food showing up on the table was amazing.

The bad part of it, if I wanted to chat with the hostess, I needed to be in the kitchen watching her whipping up all the food 'Coz she'd never had the time to actually sit at the table.
