Travel / Anyone flew with Ryanair from Gdansk Yet? [8]

Hey all,

I know that Ryan Air are offering really cheap flights to the uk from gdansk. Has anyone flew with them? Did you have any problems? I hear they are bad for canceling flights at the last minute

Life / Are Polish People Hypochondriacs? [50]

I suppose there is always the 'what if she's right' factor, but i do think that people are a little to quick to go to the doctors. But to be honest you don't lose anything by going.

I do think I can here some people rattle as they go down the street. So many different pills and medications.

But, i suppose the doctor's know best

Work / Any advice to help with my move to Gdansk/Gdynia in March 09? [20]

Hey moonlight,

Moved to Gdynia from Manchester 8 months ago. Was quite an easy transaction. Any form of teaching qual you can get before you come will help alot, if not maybe volunteer to teach english at your local community centre. Good for the practice and also good on your cv.

The funny thing is, I have only found one polish teacher since being here. Yet a english school is on every corner, not quite worked that out, lol.

You will love Gdynia/Gdansk. In the summer its great! Hope it all goes well for you and feel free to message me if you have any questions.

UK, Ireland / POLISH TEENAGER MURDERED IN UK..man convicted [28]

Britain is lost now into a multicultural state.

It will never return, it is too open to people, and it is too 'PC' against its own.

I feel very sorry for this girl, its an awful crime. Nobody can blame her for who she chose to be with really, thats unfair. And your right, a person did this too her who had no respect for human rights, but will be given complete human rights by the government. He will go to prison, and play pool and surf the internet probably, and have his meals paid for by us for 19 years.

Travel / Best way to travel to Krakow from Gdynia? [5]

Mmmm, well. I had to wait till payday to book the tickets for the train. But all the sleepers were taken when we wanted to go. It would be cheaper to take the train and take normal seats. But I actually like driving, plus i think it will give us a little more fredom when we are there. We go for 5 days to krakow and now sure if there is 5 days worth of stuff to do. If i have the car, it will give me a few more options.

What do you think?

Life / Do we have TV in Poland? [38]

I have had many similar questions to me.
It's easy to be defensive and say how awful people are to not know about poland and how it is like. But one of my friends put it in a simple way for me once. He said 'I have an image of poland being not very nice at all' to which I questioned why, and he said 'Why have some many poles come to the uk?, It is not great here, so it must be awful there'. This thought process makes a little more sense after this conversation with him.

I am going to krakow in november. Its from 3 nights and i am trying to work out the best way to travel. Best meaning cost effective, lol.

I have the journey as 395 miles one way. So I also have to work out petrol costs

If I take train it would have to be an overnight train which i hear is around 250zl for two people.

Anyone done this lately? What do you suggest?

Life / Fireworks! Where to buy them in Poland (3-city)? [13]

Does anyone know where to buy fireworks in 3-city?

I know they do not celebrate Bonfire Night so I am having my own.

We should start a campaign. November 5th, set off fireworks from your home and we will see how many brits there are in Poland. Don't think we will light up the sky, but could be the poland's funniest inside joke :)

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

Even if you get married in the uk that doesn't entitle you to stay there.
'Your boyfriend/husband to be' is not english.

I think shelley is right, even if you get married, in polish embassy or in poland itself (can you enter poland anyway on your visa) it would take more than 6 months for your documents to go through. And by then your visa will have expired. I do think at some point your are going to have to go back to brazil even for a short time while your documents are being processed.

I hope im wrong and good luck :)

Study / Drama/acting qualifications/schools in Poland [7]

Merged: Anyone Got Into Acting In Poland?

Hey all,

Just a quick one. Has anyone every got into acting in poland?

I am asking this because of growing awareness in the Uk for the polish community my friend is a casting agent and was looking for polish speakers for some bit parts in uk soaps.

Does this ever happen the other round here, the odd need for a native speaking actor? Or do they just use poles with good accents.

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone can suggest a place or hotel for a weekend get-a-way. Something quiet and no more than 5 hours from Gdansk by car.

Thanks

Life / First Racial Attack for me in Poland [158]

I'm also intelligent enough to know how to avoid that, mostly from first hand experience (on the receiving side)

So Filios, if you have been on the recieving end of this why would you make a comment like 'he probably deserved it'? Did you deserve it?

And your overall evaluation of the country is not to move after dark?

I have to say, as much as you have already passed judgement on this, i did nothing to prevoke this guy. And the whole reason I started this thread was to see if this had happened to anyone else.

I don't lose sleep trying to work out the reason some peopel are like this, sometimes there are. No reason, some people are just dicks who want to fight, and normally end up getting very hurt.

As much as you say always walk away mate, im glad I had a go, to be honest it seemed to shock the **** out of him and he desided against trying again. And this wasn't to show my girlfriend the size of my bolloxs, I was in shock and panic and it was a gut reaction. I was in an area i didn't know soooo well, so running would have been useless, I had to give it a good shot and hope for the best and it worked this time.

I would never try to start a fight, especially when I am with my girlfriend, any guy can carry anything to end your life now-a-days

Yesterday, 19:24 Report #96

You were probably asking for it...

You must be joking me. You come on here, read a thread and decide it must be the brit's fault because polish are perfect?

Firstly, I saw the guy coming from across the street, while me and my girlfriend were sat on a step.

Secondly, if your stupid enough to think that even if I did make eye contact with someone (even though I didn't) that gives them the right to attack someone?

I hardly believe you talk in person like you do on here, because if you did, you would not be giving advice on how not to get your face broken. You would be getting your put back together.

I imagine you have seen many 'tough guys' get there faces broken for looking at someone, and im sure you fall into the same group of people like the guy who attacked me. Who think they have the right to attack someone.

By asking for it, I mean that most of these ignorant tourists go traipsing down the worst parts of the city thinking themselves untouchable and then when they do get in trouble, they blame it all on the "racist" Poles. If you must know, these so called racists attack fellow Poles, YES, fellow WHITES in these same areas as well.

I have been living here for 5 months, and have been along this street many times, and I am not stupid enough to think of myself untouchable. But regardless if they did it because i am a non-pole, if they didn't like the way I looked at them, or the way I walked I couldn't care less. It doesn't give them the right, and I definatly did not deserve it.

They are plenty of people on here who do not like the way you talk, or your views, but that does not mean you deserve a 'broken face', even if you think it does
