UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

No its not, i guess we'll agree to disagree.

I get the feeling that because Ireland is out in the ocean more we are talking about slightly different things.

I prefer the climate here, warmner summers colder winters.

You bet, one of the great things, it is like living in a different country depending on what time of year it is :)

So how about all the thunderstorms over summer, Seanny?

Here you get the monsoon rain, belting out of the heavens for a few hours and then wham, gone as quickly as it came, lovely :)

We had many here in Gliwice. It was rainy for a decent part of the month.

hate that :p

It's staggering how grey the sky is, Seanny. Maybe it has to do with living in the west of the country?

maybe, it is not the same he south of Krakow as it is in Ireland, no sir.

The sky is grey here much more than back home.

Not where I am from, no way José.
Sure the earth gets incredible dry here, they have forest fires because of the dryness, my skin and hair feel much drier here.
And the sky is much clearer here.
Every time I am talking to people at home they say it has rained more than ever before.

Average annual rainfall: 600 mm

Average annual rainfall is between 800 and 1200mm in low lying areas but in mountainous areas it can exceed 2000mm.

SeanBM will know (cepeliny or sth like that).

Lithuanian 'Zeppelin'
Like a led Zeppelin, guaranteed to clog up every major artery.
But seriously, it must have come from surviving the long cold winters.

Genealogy / I'm Polish and Russian but there's drama.... [14]

just wanted an answer

With the limited information you have provided, I don't think you will get anything except for speculation.
Perhaps if you gave us more information we could be of more assistance.
When did your Grandfather move to the U.S.? this may be a clue as to why he said he changed his identity to Polish, to be more American friendly. Also was he under strong medication? as it is possible that he was not fully conscience of what he was saying.

they messed up the spelling of our last name.

Also tell us your last name and we might know something about that too.

not really just wanted an answer...no smart asses

It's the internet, don't worry.

There is an authority for that:

Well heaven forbid I should question the very strict Mayonnaise authority :)

I can assure you that it's true.

So what do you call the 79.99999999999999% fat stuff?

this was supposed to be a "what to cook a polish woman" thread!!

Tell us a bit about her and what your intentions are towards her, so as we can better understand the situation and be able to give you better advice while getting some gossip ;)

Life / LOGS FOR THE FIRE...how much for a trailer load....? [18]

I pay between 100-220 per cubic metre, depending on how dry the wood is and who you know.

last me from now untill march...?

How long it lasts depends on if you burn it quickly, as in let a lot of oxygen at it.

so can anyone give me a clue how much i should be paying for enough wood to last me from now untill march...?

I would say you'd need 5 cubic metres but it also depends on how big your house is, if it is insulated and if it is the only source of heat.

farm trailor

How big is a tailor?

Life / Are there any good vitamin shops in Warsaw? [9]

The only problem might be differences of opinion within each respective country.
For example, I know in Ireland that St John's Wort is a

Popular herbal medicine St John's Wort will remain available by prescription only, despite continuing calls for it to be sold in shops again.

From here irishhealth.com/article.html?level=4&id=384
But you can buy it without prescription in most E.U. countries.

I do not know if any things are prescription only in Poland that is not in other E.U. countries but I thought this difference was worth a mention.

History / 9th November 1989: And the wall came tumbling down [113]

Oh and for your question...Gorbatschov, definitely.

Not the Hoff? :)

Listen to what Poles, who were adults back then, think about the commie years... hehe.

I find it very interesting to talk to people from this era here in Poland.
It is different to a lot of the other communist countries I have visited, as the people I have met and spoke to here do not miss communism the way some people do in other countries.

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

You are running out of arguments when your only reason for supporting mass immigration

Show me where I said that, old man?
Have you forgotten my argument already?
Time for your meds.

I said speak to the indigenous people of the New World countries, and ask them their views on mass immigration. If you can find them.

Irish people fled famine 150 years ago.

And of course you see no connection here?

Tell me, at what stage will our past sins be forgiven?

You are one to talk about sin, you're a despicable racist who hides behind free speech and manipulating facts.
You are an embarrassment to all those that died to bring your racist attitudes in to the world.

I'll say it again, people from new member states were not invited to come and work in the UK, people came of their own volition.

However painful this might sound, your government allowed the freedom of movement, therefore inviting people to go there and work.

If you're that smart, how come you didnt manage to make it in Poland like many other Polish people living there have?

There is still quite high unemployment here in Poland, it was higher before many left to seek employment in Ireland and the U.K. because they were the governments that invited them, (ok with the word 'invite' we could get into semantics, which is pointless) we can agree on 'allowed'.

Was there labour shortages in England?

What qualifications do you have?

Nothing.

Are you going senile?
You are contradicting your own argument.

To New World countries. Tell me, what did eastern europe, China, Nigeria, Pakistan or India ever do for Ireland.

And what did any of the countries that our people emigrated to owe us?
You're full of it.

Free speech

You hide behind it you despicable old man.

I told you I discuss hardly about dificult subjects just to see the real behaviour some of you.

But what is very shameful is that RevokeNice is an old Irish man.
We have hundreds of years of history of emigrating to other countries and our ancestors came across hateful people in other countries who treated them like scum.

So you see it is very embarrassing that RN posts such hateful things.

Life / What are people in Poland REALLY saying about 'swine flu'? [41]

I'm interested to know what the ordinary person on the Polish street is thinking about swine flu.

Ah, to be honest I do not pay attention to it or at least I try not to.
There are no masks in the aptekas (pharmacies) here in Poland, is the last I couldn't help hearing.

A lot of the Polish people I know are thorough about their health and really look after themselves

Is that a nice way of saying they are hypochondriacs? :)

Real Estate / Prices of apartments in Krakow are collapsing further down in 2010-2011 [150]

No links, just as I thought.
You do not work in the real estate business at all, you told me that a while ago.

you may well be critical of people who forecast a market downturn

I am critical of your lack of understanding, yes.

but you masquerade in doing the opposite, claiming prices will increase?

How is it I am masquerading now?
You are just putting words into my mouth, you're now lying. Show me where I even once said prices will increase?

No links and false allegations, Bolek time for you to get over your disappointments.

Gazeta Wyborcza

You have been known to tell lies on this forum so you will have to excuse me if I ask you for the article from Gazeta Wyborcza, that you base your allegations for this thread on.

this thread is about the expected, or not, drop in property prices in krakow

the comment was not directed at Greg, but to all who wish to post in this thread.

This spammer has found a loop hole in PF's guest system and continues to post bogus statements with no back up and manipulating the facts.

Over the span of years 2002-2008 real estate prices in Poland have increased drastically with over 1200.00%.

This is opinion with no facts or knowledge of the real estate business.

the real estate market is coming down.
