Life / Queuing and Polish people [49]

on the one hand, old folks have paid their dues damnit.

but on the other hand, what is dishonest is dishonest, therefore i have taken a zero tolerance position.

If it bothers you then do something about it or you gotta change your perspective.

don't be afraid to spot the queue jumper and hold eye contact, get close hold eye contact and if they still jump give them about 5 sec of evil eye then engage with your best (translate as you like) "hey lady the queue ends back there, not here." i've only had to go that far once and it did escalate but oh well.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

interesting points noimmigration, i'm not sure that you should be so quick to tout the "deeds" of britains past as your own, perhaps a term other than "we" would be more accurate when discussing ww2 heroics. Regardless of that, if you do use the term "we" then you should be equally willing to take the blame for the misdeeds of Britains past as well, including events leading up to ww2 which allowed Poland to be ransacked in the first place.

However you do make an excellent (albeit indirectly) that it behooves a nation to develop itself and its people first and foremost before it should rely on "mercenaries." I knew many Poles in London and the surrounding area that were making crap money, living in squalid flats and the firms they were slaving for were bathing in sterling.

Perhaps the problem is more to do with the monopoly that Big business interests have on government policies. And although many (not all) Poles are working in entry level positions or in mills and factories (and don't kid yourselves many are really being taken advantage of) for a pittance, it is still WAAAAAYYY better than what they can earn in Poland.

Don't blame people for wanting a better life. Take this up with those representing you in parliament, the domino effect has to start somewhere.

UK, Ireland / Views of Poles in UK on Bulgarians/Romanians coming here? [62]

Y'know Paul, your post gave me pause to remember a few situations from my stay in UK:

I couldn't help but wonder, while living in London, at what would possess someone to go from their home country to live on the streets and be a general waste of space and a complete nuisance in another country, and not even have a clue about he language mind you.

That'd be like me emigrating to Sweden and then just pissing everybody off and not even bother to learn the language-wtf?

I'm not sure you could pole (no pun intended) the majority of Poles in the UK about Bulgarians as you'd need translators for everything. Actually that's a heck of an idea for a business if anyone hasn't thought of it.

That'd b

USA, Canada / NO VISAS to Canada for Poles in the near future [62]

For some reason I'm leary of it. I worry that it's just big business lobbying the gov't to try and get more workers to come in and work on the cheap. I am probably just being a worry wart, as you'd have to wonder who'd pay the huge expense to travel so far and then be taken advantage of.

However, I categorically do NOT trust the government to ever make decisions which are in the best interests of the people.

Love / I'm pregnant of a polish guy [90]

I know the situation well- that's basically how i came into this world.
to be honest, the situation was really, really tough on my mom and i don't think she ever got over the hurt.

My advice to you is to go home and go home and make a new start.

A child should be raised with two parents, I know this all too well. I would never want anyone to have to live like my mom had to. The pressure and abuse she felt definitely had an effect on me. Only if you have a very, very, supportive family could I encourage you to have this child. If that isn't the situation then don't. A child deserves the right upbringing and if that's not possible then don't be selfish and don't be a coward and don't bring a child into this world simply because you're afraid not to. I'm sorry to be harsh but I know this situation too well.

Read the first posted reply again.

You need to HONESTLY evaluate what kind of situation you could offer a child. Yes of course you would love your child, but you must think about the day to day needs and challenges that would be involved.

People like to imagine the summer without imagining the mosquitos if you know what I mean. You really have to choose the season that will be best for you to develop in.

What kind of support would you have for you and for the child? These are difficult questions that demand honest answers. I can only advocate choosing what's best for a child, sometimes that's to not be put in a crap situation but i don't know your situation.

If you do plan on keeping the child then this guy MUST be held responsible. You may want him to be happy but it sounds like he's happy to ruin lives and take no responsibility for his part.

My feelings are you shouldn't take on a responsibilty that you can't handle. Be honest with yourself in asking whether or not you can be a single mother, and for how long, and what your long term goals are.

Whatever you choose, be proud and you be your own judge, your life is your choices, the rest of us are just talkers. I wish you the best in your life.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

One could argue that the the UK as a country (and people) benefitted from exploiting other lands for cneturies. True modern Englanders (is that the term) should not be blamed for this fact, nor should they take credit for others' deeds from the past mind you, however it does justify on a macro level this "invasion."

But when it's all said and done the ones to be pissed at are in government and are the employers in either society.

If I were English, I'd be thinking "how could the government sell our culture down the river like this?"

And if I were Polish, I'd be thinking "how can those ******** (in gov't and business) expect us to get by on 800zł a month? I have to go."

It's a brutal world but lets not blame the individual for the big picture. Yes we're all responsible for what you do or don't do, but we're not the policy makers and shouldn't be blamed for reacting to the policies government and business set up.

plk 123 uh, nice job on making half a quote and taking it out of context, feel free to be less argumentative (needlessly) in the future. but you do make a good point regarding grammar; i most definitely should have included an "if" in that statement. my bad, but i get the impression you're trying to spin things a bit. shame on you.

some just do it much better then others but others really have no room to judge.

you might want to examine the irony of that statement.

Life / I AM BLACK. SHOULD I MOVE TO POLAND? [107]

i'll be honest with you, polson is not being completely honest, poles (like any group of people) can be racist especially the young men.

But everyone is right on about Wrocław, you stand a better chance there, than say Dąbrowa Gornića.

On the bright side, attitudes are changing but don't be surprised if you do have some problems from time to time. Do what you gott do and i hope you get out of your music what you put in to it.

Life / I AM BLACK. SHOULD I MOVE TO POLAND? [107]

This response was meant for a response from Grzegorz, it seems a lot of the threads to this orginal thread have either been misdirected to a different thread or something's wrong with my computer.

All I'm saying is that not really about race but about being different.

I didn't get that message from your first post. The post wasn't about racism or bigotry that poles have encountered abroad but you steered it in that direction so i called you on it. Although I admit it was somewhat underhanded so i do apologize for that.

But besides that, stating that poles face challenges abroad due to the aforementioned seems like you're trying to right one wrong with another.

Now if you were to mention the looks poles get while in predominanantly (99%) noncaucasion countries then you'd be making a valid comparison as this would be a similar scenario. However all that still would have no real contribution to the discussion as to whether or not poles have racist tendancies towards non-caucazoid (in this case negroid [bio terms here]) people.

ll I'm saying is that not really about race but about being different

Actually to make assumptions and ascertations based on the difference of one's skin could be viewed as racial stereotyping (broadly) hence the question of racist behaviour and attitudes.

White people moving to other majority white countries (for example Poles moving to UK) also have problems.

again i'm not sure that is an entirely relevant point in regards to the posters original question.

Anyways it just seems that once it comes to racism and bigotry these things end up being pissing contests and i felt you had started "pissing."

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

hey maybe everybody is right?
let's assume everybody is right and everything stated by everyone is true.

It still shouldn't make a difference towards your own character as an individual should it? I'm so weary of people throwing out national stereotypes (which can be true) in an attempt to mark an individuals character.

I've met class acts from uk, poland, usa, canada, scotland and ireland and also crap characters from the aforementioned places (except scotland, i've never met anyone i didn't like from scotland).

yeah you've established there are slags in both poland and uk and they are slags for a variety of differing reasons-congratulations on pointing out the obvious.

Hey, maybe some girls just like to act differently than what is considered "lady like." Maybe they don't share your values, maybe they're doing what they can to enjoy their lives. Live and let live.

Life / What type and brand of cars do Polish people like? [51]

Poles like their status symbols (as do many) and the status symbol of choice is a German engineered vehicle.

I can't comment on the most popular of them but i'm sure someone with more info can.

Skodas are quite popular (some would say too) and have a good reputation as they are part of the VW group, there are tons of Fabias and Octavias on the roads.

Daewoos are also rather popular (in Sląsk anyhow), i've no idea if they're still being made but i see tons everyday.

The Peugot 307's are also very common as are the Renault Laguna and Megane.
Not too too many citroens though.

I'm surprised I don't see more Hondas and Toyotas but they don't seem to have the pull the german cars do. I am seeing more and more Mitsubishis though, which for some reason i find surprising.

I think Volvo is still regarded quite highly and it does have the exclusivity appeal as well.

American cars in Poland, well aside from Chevies, it's a rich man's (or a well connected one's) world.

Life / What type and brand of cars do Polish people like? [51]

no sh** there's some goof that owns a late 80's camaro in my complex and i see that thing parked a lot more than not.

I've always been curious, is it that so many people here can actually afford all the high-end vehicles i see on the roads or is it that so many people want to look like they can. And how does a foreigner4 get credit so he doesn't have to throw down huge wads just to buy a used car?

Love / Sex in Poland (Not dirty or advertising post) [27]

i'm curious why this is such a pertinent question for you. I think the waiting has to do with having less privacy due to flats being smaller and more often there is someone else home that puts the brakes on things.
