History / What if Poland was not in the socialist system? [36]

I'm sometimes wondering where Poland would be now if it has not been in the socialism system right after the WW2 (for about 50 years). Would it be richer and more powerful than the current leading "Western" countries (Germany, Italy, France, etc.)?

I tend to think - it depends. I think in general terms Poles cannot govern themselves well and need some "outside power" so that they could stay focused. What do you think?

Travel / During your travel to Poland what historic sites have you visited ? [30]

I was in Bialowieza as a child (in the primary school I guess). It remined me of bisons -- they are cool! (not sure if dangerous). I think there are bison reservoirs near the Baltic sea in Poland, too.

I found a picture of a bison in Bialowieza:

Food / favorite polish recipes? [65]

I like "pasztet" made of a rabbit. Looks something like here below. Plus - all kind of game widly caught in the Polish forests.

Food / is" kaszanka" a Polish speciality? [54]

The best place to get a Black Pudding is from a good butcher or specialist shop, NOT from the super-market, which tend to sell mass-produced stuff, which is nothing like the real thing.

Yep, there is a HUGE difference in the quality of the produce when you buy "organic" food versus food from a store. "Organic" food tastes 10 times better. But is 2-3 times more expensive too...:(

There are also great Polish cakes - for example sernik and makownik. They take some time and experience to prepare them well though -- but they are YUMMY!!!.

Work / Cost of Living and average Pay scale of IT in Warsaw [14]

It's 1600 Euro a month, right? I think is a good salary. Yes, you can live on 500 euro a month (food + transportation -- but it depends on your actual needs and how much you like to spend...:).

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

Yep, it all depends how you use the words - same with weapons: sometimes they are really useful for the whole society, but other times they just destroy everything...

News / Polish/German/Russian relations [304]

I'm not a big fan of German either -- they act as if they owned the whole European Union (in fact they do since the German banks manage the finances...).

Real Estate / Poland Property...should I be scared [127]

Today a drivers license is enough to "have the opportunity" to leave Poland. No special "visas" are required so don't see a problem here.
