My grandfather Marcin Labencki born October 23, 1885 and married Sofia Moryc were from Poland. I am trying to learn how to find where they were born. How do I go about it.

Hi Sunshine,

First you need to make sure how to spell the last name correctly (using the Polish letters). I can see these possible variations of your last name:

Labecki
£abęcki
£abecki
£ąbecki
£ąbęcki

Knowing the correct spelling will shorten search time and likely confusion.

£ąbęcki

That would be a very rare name, even in Polish :)

I guess you are right....:).

Same for this name: Sofia Moryc. The Polish first name of "Sofia" should be: "Zofia". And the last name ("Moryc") could also be: "Moryć".

I found my mother's baptismal here in Chicago, Illinois and they spelled it Labedzki. Could that be? Also Zofia Moryc is what I have. Now what do I do,

It could be a last name (it means "sausage" in Polish).

Labedzki was most probably "£abędzki" (meaning 'swan', or rather 'swan-ey'). You need a good genealogy website or forum anyway.
