Food / Just made my first pierogie (homemade) [9]

When I make potato pierogis I add a little (very little) finely chopped mint and it gives it a really subtle herby taste. Thanks Ranj I will now have to make some pierogis next weekend, you gave me a craving..

Hi! I've been trying to make this common genenrally "simple" recipe and it always drives me off the wall and I can't get past forgetting about it and moving on with the things I know how to make that always generally come out fine. For some reason my Nalesniki get burnt or they come out in a mush every time. Can someone "experienced" with this recipe tell me the right ingredient ratios and heat to use for this? I know they have to be very specific. I'm not sure if there's supposed to be more milk than water or maybe I'm not using enough eggs for the batter. I also need to know if there's a right type of skillet to use for this, should it be heavy bottom or thin?? I've tried to make this more than 15 times and my romance with this recipe ends with me cursing at the pot and things flying out the window because I get SO frustrated with it..

something easy? mostly soups are pretty easy... like tomato or pickle or beet..
Generally they're all broth based so for example for a vegetable broth based soup (you can make any of those above listed with this) you would dump 2 1/2 cups of water into a pot, add 2 carrots, 2 parsnips, some celery, some dill or parsley, maybe half a turnip, a potato, and half an onion and then let that cook for like an hour semi covered. Take out those cooked vegetables and that's your broth. Then for ex. a tomato soup you would add tomato puree to the broth form 6 fresh tomatos and let it boil for a bit then add a little cream (mix the cream separately with some of the soup so it doesn't curdle) and some green stuff like a little chopped parsley or dill and that's your soup.

I'm Polish and have dated american guys. One of my family members is also married to an american guy. We do perfer catholic, but like someone said it really depends on the matters of heart too, so generally if it's Christian it works. It's rare though to see that a polish girl will marry someone of non-european descent, i.e. we generally marry caucasian guys. I did see a polish girl though at the airport in Poland with an african american guy, and another with one of asian origin so there are exceptions.

yeah I wonder this too...haha, but it's cute when guys ask these questions lol, perfection is very attractive.

my bf is of course polish. he told me his dad used to beat his mom, but hasnt for ten years now. now the other night, we had weed together and i started laughing and acting silly, but my bf didnt like it and started to punch me.

i am still with him as he said he wouldnt do it again and that it was beacuse of he weed.

he said before he would never hit me and he did. its weird because i love him and he loves me. did i do the right thing by sticking by him, cuz he is gunna get help?

the real question. do most polish men have bad tempers, also towards women?

No you should leave him and leave him NOW. in my polish family this type of behavior from a man is looked down upon and considered very cowardly. Generally men like that end up alone miserable drunks in the Polish culture.

See, this is what people have told me, that it's not even the recipe, but that you just "know", like driving a car, but that's exactly the problem for me. I'm not sure what it's supposed to "look" like. To me the batter looked "ok" in that it was very light yellow in color and had the consistency of heavy cream. Once I pour that on a heated pan though it tends to just sit there and I can't get it to set so that it's "flippable". Instead it gets somewhat stuck to the bottom and burns with the top being completely uncooked. I tried covering it thinking that the heat would reach the top but that doesn't help and omg omg omg it's sooooo frustrating1 just thinking about it!ghghgh.

^ those are the places I would recommend too.. and I remember when I was a kid they used to have a small carnival on the Blonie park... There's also a Go-cart track around there, but not sure how old kids have to be for that. If you walk around Blonie you can see Wawel from there and Kopiec Kosciuszki, they have some playgrounds there. Smok Wawelski is a "must see" for a 5 year old, and take him to Rynek for some cotton candy etc.

haha! :) I will let you know the next time I try it! This is good advice, thank you for taking the time to describe it in detail that will really help. I did use 2 eggs, but how many spoons of flour would you recommend about for 2 eggs? about 3 full ones?
