Love / The polish girl, and the life partnership [40]

I hope I am not offending you but at 34 and 31 you should know by now. I am 24 and I'm not stupid but I think I know when I am making a right or wrong decision. And as far as love... you shouldn't have to ask. If you love her then it doesn't matter what a forum of strangers has to say. I'm puzzled with your questions and comments. If she is right then you should know, or at least be love struck enough not to care. I moved to Poland in less than 2 weeks after my invite. I knew. I wasn't sure on anything, but I knew. I didn't need to ask if I was really in love or was it right. I would hope that your love will guide you and this forum can only reinforce your decisions AFTER they are made.

Good luck!

I knew no polish either but my BF is American as well. I can tell you, everyone here is VERY accepting and willing to help. You should have no problem finding someone to teach you, you could even exchange english lessons for polish! If you come here open minded and ready to learn, you will have no problem. You have someone to come home and express your frusterations and excitement to. As a step-child I can also tell you the best thing to do for your new child, is be open minded as well. Be his friend, not his father. He's 13 so he will be critical of your every move. Your replacing his position as man in the house but if you share the responsibilities you'll earn his trust. My step-mother came into my life and asked for help and assitance in learning our ways and it was one of the best moves she made. She didn't come in and be my mother, she became a best friend. Poland is an amazing place, don't worry too much! Worrying shows your fears and 13 year old boys can smell fear.

I am a step-child and I was lucky enough to get a great step-mother! I wasn't so lucky on the step-dad. I was evil, worse than evil to him. He just didn't get it. He didn't try either.

Don't be embarrassed that your not a Pole. If he's any part of a decent kid, he'll have fun teaching and laughing at you while you learn. Just laugh with him. I didn't catch where your from but you could try teaching him your culture too.

I think your heading in the right direction with being practical. Your in a terribly scary place moving, marriage and step-parent and all you can do is try. I was that age when my father remarried. It's different for every kid and every situation but all you can do is try to adjust to him becasue he may not be keen on adjusting to you. Key is, don't try too hard.

I am sure you'll get it, and if you don't that's ok too. He's 13. He may need a couple years to come around once he figures out who he is.

So you can teach him some cultural things too. Should be fun. You could ship him some small gifts. Kids always love getting things in the mail! Give him an idea of who you are and what your culture is like. I've found that polish culture is very family oriented so I'm sure you'll be accepted. Plus, you have a lot to learn from him.

You both have a lot to teach each other! Sounds fun! He's 13 so impressionable and ready to be a "man". Sounds like this should be an amazing adventure for all 3 of you!

Language / Pimsleur language learning system, is it any good? [33]

BYKI.com! It's great! I did the Pimsler and that was good for speaking simple phrases but to learn to read and write try byki.com. It's free dowload to start and it's at your own pace so if your fast or slow, you can control it.

Travel / Golf (courses) in Poland! [25]

The golf courses I have seen so far and the golfers who play are both horrid. They have one part down though! The drinking! I'm suprised it's not as popular in Poland. In the states it's a Great drinking game :)

Love / Are all Polish girls skinny? [85]

Researchers have found another gene that may keep you from fitting in your jeans.

Personally I thinks it's something in the polish air. I got here and lost weight! I love Poland!

Love / What makes Polish girls tick - or is it just women in general....:-) [64]

Dazzer.

You sent your ex a card? You want to earn trust then knock it off! Us women know everything you do! She may notice your distance or your secretivness and feels like you are cheating. Maybe she has found the card you sent or saw the text message. If you care for this girl and you want her trust then earn it whole hearted! It discusts me when men want trust but only on their terms. You either need to decide if you want this girl or not. There's no inbetween with woman. You can't have your cake (Girlfriend) and eat it too (ex-wife). I don't think you have to confess love or make a lifelong promise, just show her you care how she feels. Don't use her until you figure out what you want, this month.... You divorced your wife for a reason, you think it's fixed now? Get your mind straight before stringing these 2 women along. Maybe you need to remove yourself from women all together for a bit. Time to be honest with yourself, your girlfriend and your ex-wife!

Love / What makes Polish girls tick - or is it just women in general....:-) [64]

Im not sure if you have ever had a long term relationship that has ended on good terms, people still meet for drinks and get on,

I have actually... but when a relationship starts with cheating it's bound to end with cheating. I have plenty of 1st hand knowledge on that too. She went in knowning he was married and he divorced for her so I can understand her fear. I agree she's made her bed and now she should lie in it. On the otherhand he's left enough destruction why create more? He pretends to feel concern but after all he's put these 2 women through, I think he's more concerned about himself coming out smelling like roses.

Law / Getting a visa to stay in Poland longer than 90 days... [14]

I don't remember well, but aren't you moving here for a girlfriend? Look into getting your temporary residence. It may be the better way to go. i looked into it but couldn't get one until I had a job. Also, my school was MORE than willing to help me with paperwork. I think ever situation and school is different though. Check out the temp. residence thing. It made more sense to me.

ps. still looking for my list.... I am afraid I have thrown it away.

News / Poland's overall view on the US? [38]

What is Polands view on the USA in general? In the US we assume everyone hates us. What does Poland think over all?

News / Poland's overall view on the US? [38]

I understand you, but am a little confused. It's strange for protests for sons and daughters to be brought back home? Are you saying they should protest for ALL troops to be brought home, not just American? Of course, the US only sees what the media wants to show and I feel like Poland may also be the same.

I am an American living in Poland and I have learned a lot since moving here. The media doesn't tell us everything back home. Now that I see that I am interested in what people think here.

Don't worry! You can't hurt my feelings! ; )

News / Poland's overall view on the US? [38]

We rebuild their cities. We have contractors kidnapped and killed trying to put the pieces back together for them. Soldiers are there protecting them the best they can. Setting up checkpoints into their cities to protect THEM! Troops are greeted by groups of children that end up being terrorists themselves.

I don't understand much about the war and what is really going on but I have met soldiers, my cousin one of them, and they do their best to protect. I have heard the stories and seen pictures. I think the US is bound to be attacked no matter what we do.

I am not saying I agree, disagree, or understand any of what's going on but I think we (the average everyday person) cares for everyone who dies in the fight against those who attack us.

I suppose being in the US when they attacked, I know the fear that was brought on. I remember that day perfectly well. I visited New York shortly after and although I was not directly efftected by the attack, my cousin was deployed shortly after. He will be able to sleep in his own bed this Sunday after 7 months.

Since we are the Super Power who out there is going to worry about our children and interests if we don't?

Love / I cheated on my girlfriend (I'm British, my gf is Polish) [167]

99nat122413 Nice! You said it perfectly! I am ashamed to say that I was cheated on and stuck around. He played the daily reminder game with me and it worked (among other things) All you can do is try to earn her trust back slowly. Baby steps. You thought things were tough before you cheated... just wait if she takes you back. If you are ready for the challenge then good luck. Once your cheated on, you never forget. You can forgive but you'll always wonder. No matter what she's always going to have the right to question you. It never goes away. In many ways it makes things stronger and others it makes things worse. Be strong and confident though, don't whimper and guilt her into taking you back. Be a man, admit your faults and work your arse off for the rest of your life making it right, because it will take that long.

Life / The perfect souvenir from Poland [28]

Life / The perfect souvenir from Poland [28]

I will have been here 9 months and my father is sure I went to have a child. He does not have internet so he hasn't seen pictures of me. He thinks it's funny and tells his friends I have lied to him and went to have a child. My boyfriend is a med student here and I got some ultrasound practice photos of his kidney and sent them to him. I don't think he will think his joke is funny anymore!

Been to Cepelia and there's really nothing there that strikes me. Something unique would be wonderful but I can't figure out what it is that I want.

Work / are there ANY young, American/British females in Poland? [15]

Elis I too questioned the amount of American/British ladies teaching english. I thought maybe I was the only one. I am on my second year of living/teaching. There are plenty of American girls studying medicine but they tend to stick together. I have met 1 other American girl but she was deep into her religious studies and we didn't quite get each other. I have plenty of polish friends but they don't appreciate my imported macaroni out of a box or a good margarita.

I think ladies are a little more shy then boys. Boys will let the world know they are there, us ladies are a little more quiet and reserved.
