Genealogy / Has anyone taken Genealogy DNA tests? [87]

That is so cool! Thanks, Witek, I'm so glad to know that. Some day I'll get my genetic test done to see if I have R1a, too.

USA, Canada / Polish People and Events in Southern California [9]

Polka dancing clubs have events here and there. Poles often show up. I'm not really into it, so I don't know much about it.

Also, there used to be Polish folk dance groups performing at the L.A. County Fair, but those have been phased out in recent years.

News / Made in Poland products? [66]

At my local 99 Cent Store I found Loucks brand sesame snaps. Pretty tasty!

Genealogy / Oko surname - Rzeszow area [3]

Hi,

I can't really answer your questions about the surname. Seems like an interesting name; it almost has a kind of mystical connotation. One of your ancestors must have been a person of special vision to be named "Eye." One thing is for sure, there are probably a lot of people who if they did not know it was Polish would assume Oko was a Japanese name. I've noticed some Slavic names are like that, especially ones ending in "ko."

Travel / No Polish villages on google earth [13]

I noticed that too--I wonder why you can't get close-ups of Poland on Google. Is is a political issue?

Life / Asian and Polish culture - how do they compare? [24]

I always thought some of the more traditional Polish costumes looked Asiatic, although more Persian or Central Asian than Far Eastern.

Here is a traditional Polish depiction of a Mongol warrior:
