USA, Canada / Why would someone leave Poland for the US? [120]

Maybe Poland is not cracked up to be in what you people think. Why are so many poles trying to enter the US.. My parents came here in the early 1900, they never looked back.

Maybe people always think that the grass is always greener on the other side.

Palm trees suck. They split easily in woodworking ;)
In fact, palm tress are not really trees but grass.

Palm trees are not grown for wood work.. They are meant to bear fruit and sway in the breeze. And make Pina Coladas

Good luck boys to find those kind of girls..... very cheap challenge

Shucks, Diane. You just broke my heart. I was ready to fly to Europe just to meet you. You are a lot like many girls in the States. You get a guy all heated up, and then tell them that you are not in the mood, or have a headache. For shame on you.

Life / Moving back to Poland after 20 unhappy years in Canada and USA [70]

A family I know lived in the US for about 9 years and recently moved back to Poland

Hmmm, That is interesting. I suppose we all have our own reasons. In this case the father stayed. Damn, that must have been a devastating experience. A family torn apart.. Thats sad.

Being an American, I just could not see myself moving to another country. We have our faults, but there is no where in the world that I would want to live other in America.

In my estimation we have it all. Two oceans, the Gulf of Mexico, the great lakes, our redwood forest, numerous mountain ranges, deserts, and a melting pot of people speaking different languages.

But I suppose we all think different.

Didn't like it at first, then got used to it.

Washington DC or the state? Ok, now you had the best opf both worlds. So tell me. What is your choice, as a country to live in? I noticed once that your desire was to move to Colorado. LOL! I can just picture you on your Siwy Kon, roaming in the wilds of the Rockies.

Geeeze Krysia, this opens up a brand new can of worms. Just in the short time that I have been in here, I assumed that the education in Poland, and the rest of Europe was superior than our schools. I notice that the Europeans are much more familiar with history and politics than we Americans. We have more advanced universities, but Poland has great ones too. I met a lot of professional people from Poland, and they really impress me. Look at yourself. you master both languages very well. Do you have a Polish accent.. Ok, young lady.. I wont bother you anymore.

History / The execution of Private Eddie Slovik (A Polish American ) [4]

the only American soldier executed for cowardice in WW2.

Slovik was taken into custody and confined to the division stockade. The divisional judge advocate, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Sommer, again offered Slovik an opportunity to rejoin his unit and have the charges against him suspended. He offered to transfer Slovik to a different infantry regiment where no one would know of his past and he could start with a "clean slate". Slovik, convinced that he would face only jail time, which he had experienced and found preferable to combat, declined these offers, saying, "I've made up my mind. I'll take my court martial."

Language / Help with pronunciation of Gorecki Symphony [41]

Lets face it. Polish is one tough language to learn. I was born into it by my immigrant parents, but if I were in Poland today, I would have trouble. Modern day Poles use words that I never heard before. Maybe it is like America..It depends on what part of the country that one lives in.

Travel / Horse Riding in Poland [24]

Krysia, I have 65 acres of land in WV. I am seriously thinking of getting a couple of horses. I am interested in Kentucky trail horses, but I know so little about caring for them. I research on google and it scares the hell out of me about how much care is involved. I have a few questions for you.

Worming>> Do you do your own. How much?
Teeth. Does the teeth have
to be cleaned every year. Filling if necessary?

Water>>> I have a spring fed pond.. Is that ok?
Food.. Hay and oats.. What else?
Hooves. What does that involve? Are shoes necessary.?
How much pasture land?
What did the cowboys and Indians do to care for horse problems
I have a nice new barn with a concrete floor.. I read that this is not good for the horse.

If you answer this, I have more questions

Travel / Horse Riding in Poland [24]

Maze, during the winter - makes them lively. One thing to watch for during the spring and summer, if you put them to pasture, is Laminitis - when horse a eats succulent grass this can create inflammation in the Laminae - makes them lame.

If I put them out to pastre, how can I tell them what to eat. If I feed them hay and oats then put them out to pasture.. They are going to eat grass anyhow..

I told you that I am pretty stupid in caring for horses. It would be nice to own them though.. My property adjoins thousands of acres of State forest, loaded with deer, turkey, and some bears..I have an ATV, but it is too noisy.

I have no problem buying them food. The grass I save and build compost piles. For my garden. I can also use the manure to build up my compost pile. I save all of my leaves in the fall and run them through a shredder.. Makes great mulch.

On the concrete barn floor.. suppose that I would put pressure treated plywood in each stable? Would that work?

Life / Does anyone compost in Poland? [3]

I have 65 acres in West Virginia. I am a firm believer in compost.I remember my Granfather showing me how they did it in Poland. I save my grass clippings, kitchen scraps and horse manure.Keeping it wet and turning once a week, I grow my own worms. I shred fall leaves fore mulch.. It paid off for me.

History / Poles and Falaise pocket - WWII [90]

I remember my Grandfather telling this story. He was in the American third Army. The third Army completly routed the Germans in the south, and were closing the escape gap to entrap the whole German Army. Things went well, but The British commanded py Montgomery. could not close the gap. The troops fought well but due to foul ups in the rear, they failed to close the gap. Thus allowing a lot of Germans to escape.. Much to the dismay of SHAEF.

The next combat that the 1st would see was in September 1944, Operation Market Garden. On D-Day, both the 1st Parachute and 1st Air-Landing Brigades were landed at their DZ/LZ's. The 4th Parachute Brigade was scheduled to land on D+1 and the 1st Polish Parachute Brigade would arrive on D+2. As with all plans, the execution did not go as planned. The 4th landed 4 hours late due to fog over Merry ol' England. The 1st Polish Glider element arrived as scheduled; but, the parachute element did not arrive for another 2 days. This miscalculation, in conjunction with the intelligence boondoggle and poor planning by Montgomery and his staff, led to the destruction of the 1st Airborne Division.

According to my Grandfather, It is true that the Hitler fought Valiantly at first. But after the failure of the battle of the bulge they surrendered in droves, crying for their mothers. He told me that there were kids as young as thirteen.

Don't kid yourself, most Brits don't want the immigrants here - you're a bit foolish if you think that everyone is a fluffy liberal with open arms!

This isn't just happening in Sweden.
Liberalism and its misguided PC BS will spell the doom of civilized society.
Wake up, people, and tell the stupid PCers to STFU. They can go live elsewhere if they so want to experience "rich diversity".

Chill out Randall. You are not about to change anything. For whatever reason, these people believe in their liberal cause. The best thing is to allow them to do their thing. Let Them find out for themselves. I gave up.

Love / How can a black man get a Polish women [248]

This is a decent article.

This is all so true. I was born in 1960, and at that time the only minorities that I ever saw ,were huckster selling watermelons out of horse drawn wagons. As time went by I started to see them more often. Now we have the Latinos and the island people. They multiply like rats,so it wont be long before the Anglo White majority will be the minority. This will spell the end of America as we know it.

Which Russia won.

With the help of the western allies, by creating a western front to take the pressure off of the Russians by tying up German forces and armor that would have been used against them.

Fighting a war to protect American influence in the West.

No,by coming to the aid of a bunch of losers. Without Americans aid and supplies, all of Europe and Russia would be BBQ today.

Nothing, not a penny, America was fighting to stop a hegemony from rising in Europe, freedom of Europeans was an issue as far as newsreels were concerned, it was in reality cold hard politics.

Not a penny? Did you ever hear of American lend lease. Money that was not paid back.

Why us educated bastards who have some idea what we're talking about:)

Ps. I'm Polish. USA never EVER fought for my freedom, USA sold my country to Russia so dont you even dare calling me ungratefull or a bastard, if anyone is one its you, and not ungratefull just ignorant.

Poland does not owe USA anything, on the other side USA probably owes Poland its won war of independence (read up on Kościuszko), while i firmly believe US to be the greatest country and nation currently the only thing Poland owes you is a kick in the shin.

No ,America never fought for you.. I then wonder why Poland regained her independence. If not for the western allies, you would still be under Russian control.
