Food / No Curry in Tri-city area...damnit. [8]

I went there when it first openned in 90 something. The restaurant was owned then by a Dutch guy and an Indian fellow. Food and service fantastic back then. Last ate there at the end of last summer, the food was good but service had gone very much down hill. I can smell curry from where I am sitting now. Sometimes its good to be in England :)

Washing machine in the bathroom, never heard of that.

Nothing too unusual about the washing machine in the bathroom - it does kinda make sense afterall

Shower in the kitchen on the other hand takes some getting used to...

You know who you are ;)

Life / I feel the gay rights movement is constrained Poland [90]

homosexuality is never going to be considered the "norm"

Could that be because homosexuality isnt the "norm" and probably never will be the "norm, in the UK or anywhere else?

That said, the UK is a much more accepting and tolerant society in most areas, when compared to Poland

Whilst many expats undeniably fall into Kilkline's category, there is also a growing number who are extremely ambitious and whose earning capabilities have the potential to be significantly greater than they would back in the UK.

Not wanting to steroetype, but characteristics of this group might inculde: educated, married to Pole, left good job in UK and sold house to relocate, significant finacial resources at their disposal, creative, ambitious and innovative, comfortable integrating, positive efforts to learn Polish

News / Earth Hour - possible in Poland? [62]

Great idea, just wonder if it would have more of an impact if the turned the lights off at 9pm rather than 9am. Not that I am a synic or anything.

Love / Do Polish men shave under their arms ? [45]

The secret to that is wash twice daily with soap and shower gel

Is it really necessary to wash with soap and shower gel? I find that one or t'other tends to work fine.

UK, Ireland / hospitals in the uk [34]

The NHS deadline for 'deep' cleaning in all hospitals is about to expire. I think I heard on Radio 4 today that something like 97% of all hospitals have met the deadline. Of course the are arguements that the whole thing was a publicity stunt which has diverted much needed funds from elsewhere in the NHS. Hmmm

Ooh. I just discovered that Lambeth is so called after the 'landing place for lambs', that is a harbour to or from which they were shipped.

Anyway

Has to be Boris for entertainment value if nothing more.

Food / Cost of Nescafe coffee in Poland. [49]

I went to a Polish coffee house last year and asked for a cappuccino. Simple enough request, wasn't being flash or anything. I got some sort of nescafe dishwater type stuff in a tall glass with whipped cream and a fukin glacier cherry on top. Slap me round the face with a wet kipper and cosh me over the head with a broken bottle I did my fukin nut. That's a lie actually. The waitress was a lovely women and doing her best so I drank my coffee meakly and said thank you very much.

He/she is just a coffee enthusiast surely?

drinking nescafe?

Surely not.

I couldn't do that! I cannot drink a bad cup of coffee for anyone, even if I was dying of thirst!

I so know where youre coming from. But I was so shoked I behaved in out of character.

Food / Cost of Nescafe coffee in Poland. [49]

VaFunkoolo is a reference to my fictional Italian heritage and my love of telling people exactly where to go. Places where the sun dont shine in particular. Nonetheless, its entirely possible we are related on your great grandfather's side as my mother too has a medal, although hers is for her strawberry pavlova.

The Va stands for 'go', as in vavavoom.

Yes, you are quite right, this was my reason for ordering a cupofchino. I am exceedingly proud of my make believe Italian heritage and my pasta scoffing roots.

Indeed, I recently made a trip to Chicago in search of Polish relatives and was taken to an Italian restaurant. I ordered a pizza and lo and behold the blighters bought me a pie. You can imagine my suprise.

I said mama mia, slap me round the face with a wet kipper and cosh me over the head with a broken bottle, this ainta no pizza. I wanta the thin and crispy eh you wannabe wop, gowa getta me the chef pronto, eh.

Actually that too is a lie. I ate one slice of the pie and it was delicious. Perhaps I am American.
