News / POLAND'S CREDIT CRAZE [34]

Poles are much more conservative with their money.

yes I have to agree with you on that one. Things will tighten up here credit wise when the wave of economic downturn does finally reach here although it will be less powerful than in western europe the banks will still raise the interbanking credit rates. the commercials that are funny in the us are the loan consolidation ones. where people are in debt from like 5 credit cards and dont even know how much they owe! sad but true

Life / Good Cinemas in central area of Warsaw [10]

so to answer your question there are cinemas at all the big malls such as arcadia, wola park, zlota terasa. Centrally Kino femina is one of the oldest. Silver Screen is also quite well known. For alternative films Luna is one of the more popular ones. If you need any help with locations let me know.

News / Donald Tusk - the worst PM of 3rd RP. [79]

without a majority its difficult for him to get much done. they are talking about some major restructuring in the near future however. they are talking about early elections and if his party gets a clear majority than he can get more done

Study / Student experiences with housing/finances in Wroclaw [11]

apparently there is alot of exploitive speculative housing practices here. Foreign companies from portugal for instance bought up alot of flats in warsaw. dormitories are cheap however 400zl or so per month untilities included. as well timing is important. at this time students are scrambling for housing so the old law of supply and demand comes in to the picture. best time is june july. its took me 2 months. you probably will have to pay a fee but dont pay ahead of time only when you sign the contract and 50% is pretty standard fee

Food / Vegetarian food in Poland? [83]

However, why don`t you give Polish sausage a try?

hmm perhaps because we are vegetarians... meat is nothing more than an animal that has been murdered

USA, Canada / What can I expect in Poland compared to the United States? [48]

Bread is generally not the same either. I miss some breads from the USA and while I can survive the bread here it is not my favorite.

what do u miss that great wonder bread? I love the bread in poland fresh and cheap dark bread

Produce quality is much lower.

I disagree completely the vegetables are fresh if u go to the fresh market excepting winter time and the taste is substantially better than in the us and they dont have gmo here. organic/non sprayed stuff is the same price as normal

Poland is not a "cheap" place to live for sure.

guess it depends on where u live and ur lifestyle. its half the price for me

another difference is u r less likely to get shot in poland

Food / Vegetarian food in Poland? [83]

a lot o vegetarian restaurants now a days showing up ..specially in Warsaw :)

very true and quite tasty as well. I am also vegetarian. My favorite is vega at kino femina. I give polish people a lot of credit. although they may not be vegetarian they still are happy to go eat at a veg restaurant. I know a few vegetarians who were not able to be veg until they left their home due to their mothers forcing them to eat meat. I even know one girl whose mother would mix meat in with her veg food...
