BLS 65 | 188 11 Sep 2008 / #1I am an American trying to establish residency in Krakow. Among the many requirements is proof of health insurance (until I gain employment, I guess - the work permit will come a bit later). Medicover and the others discussed in this forum seem to be long-term solutions - any suggestions for short-term health insurance for an expatriate? Thanks!
dcchris 8 | 432 11 Sep 2008 / #2sure mate just go to PZU and tell them what you need. they will set you up with a 3 month contract but you only have to pay for the first month then they bill you but you dont have to pay. maybe its like 35zlactually now its 69zl
OP BLS 65 | 188 25 Sep 2008 / #3I tried to get this today at the PZU, but they refused. They told me I need private health insurance to satisfy my residency requirements. Was I at the wrong office? This office was at ul. Batorego 24 in Krakow. Thanks!
dcchris 8 | 432 25 Sep 2008 / #4pzu is private as far as I know. sorry I am in warsaw so I dont know krakow/ I just got hospitalization insurance from pzu. did you tell them that you needed it for the green card?
OP BLS 65 | 188 25 Sep 2008 / #5Yes - they still balked. Maybe I will try a different day and hopefully talk to a different person - I guess that is typical in Poland...
Somerled 5 | 93 26 Sep 2008 / #6Policy changes person to person here.I had insurance with PZU or some such outfit and after I signed the contract they upped the price. So I told them to **** off and now have it with another company thats $150 for the year. If you're interested I'll find out the details.
Somerled 5 | 93 26 Sep 2008 / #8Sure thing. I'll have to wait for my better half to get home since she knows the details (I try not to get too involved in my life).
Somerled 5 | 93 26 Sep 2008 / #10ok I found it (all by myself, too). The company is Polskie Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń S.A. (ptu.pl). The paper states its "Insurance of foreigners and Polish citizens who live permanently abroad, during they stay in Poland". It covers "personal accident", "medical expenses", and "third party liability in private life". Cost me 150 USD for a year and got me my residency.
