Life / Moving to Gdansk. Tuition, community, apartments questions [23]

Has anyone had experience of Polish tuition in the Gdansk

ive a course booked at the sopot school of polish for the first 2 weeks of april - looks the best in the 3Miasto...

Ex-pat community in Gdansk, are there any social kind of events or just a case of finding likewise people on forums such as these.

theyre there... just like most places... the expat community varies grealty... see if you can meet glenn in papryka on a wednesday night... he's an american and is good at making introductions... but lets face it... why limit yourself to hanging out with expats...?

I've been looking at apartments to rent for 6 month periods online and most of the decent ones seem to be around 2000zl a month

in most areas of gdansk/sopot this is at the higher end of the scale and will get you something pretty nice... check out this site for a better idea

i wonder what would you think if everyone in the Uk started to speak his own language??

i dont think anyone would care mate... you'd just get ignored...

the idea for most people behind speaking is communication... english is the universal language of communication whether you like it or not...

English people are one of the most hated...

yup... jealousy breeds resentment...

Love / Men attitude towards women in the Polish culture [82]

I have noticed about Central and Eastern European people is that they are phenomenonally good at networking

thats an interesting observation szar... everybody i know in poland knows someone who can sort something out... fair enough... but i found the concept of friendly cooperation sadly lacking... very little you scratch my back and ill scratch yours...

Study / Comparing Educational Standards in Poland vs other countries [88]

my first experiences of teaching in central europe - czech rep and poland - back in the early 9Os and at undergrad level showed that both systems were riddled with corruption... at every level... is this still the case...?

Food / Good Polish Wines [74]

Zielona Góra is one of two places in Poland with wine growing (mainly white wines; there is another wine growing region near the town of Warka in Masovia).

The first wineries around Zielona Góra were built in 1314. At Paradyż Abbey near Zielona Góra, monks have been making wine since 1250. The number of wineyards at peak production is estimated at 4,000 in the region, and 2,500 in Zielona Góra itself. The most famous wine is called "Monte Verde".

During Communist times, wine production was reduced, but since 1990 it has recovered. However, nowadays wine is no longer produced in Zielona Góra (the last factory was closed in the early 1990s).
