Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Walkabout bars throughout the UK...

lol, its a theamed bar FFS - none of the staff in these places are even Australians so I fail to see your point...picking again are we Liza!

And you have the same with the English setting up English theme bars in America, Australia and New Zealand

I think the first bars set up in these country were set up by the English if Im not mistaken :)

There are many tolerate British people

Yes there are, thank you for noticing this.

its just a shame the intolerate minority are so vocal while the tolerant are usually quiet

You need to get out more - or maybe you dont mix socially with English people much...as you might see that in England there is a champion for some cause or another!

UK, Ireland / Question about flats/houses in Ireland/UK. [11]

You wont get much in Bristol for £120,000.

Your coucil tax will be depant on the property you buy - so anywhere from £80.00 - £150.00 per month

TV licence has to be paid upfront for the first year and then you pay by direct debit in that year for you next licence - so its £135.00 up front and then just under £12.00 per month after that.

Also Britain has just come in the top 3 for the most expensive countries to live in....so cost of living will be high - on top of your bills

Gas £50.00 (for a family of 4 adults)
Electric £40.00
Water rates £ this varies depending on type of house you have and if you have a meter
Council tax £100 plus
telephone / internet - £40.00 (maybe less depending on what package you want.

Ground rent (most properties are lease hold) - this depends on how old the property is and it is payable on a yearly basis - for an old house (1890 terrace) about £12.00 per year but for a newer house it can be anything up to £600 per year maybe more

Service charges - for flats anything up to a £2,000 per year (home owners not renting) again depending on where your flat is.

they are also thinking of introducing further changes to council charges.....

so if you can earn a good salary then its good but if you earn a low salary be prepared to have to do without.

sure no matter what country you go to in the world there is irish pubs. what is wrong with having the shops and nights in pubs. the english will never like the poles its simple they just like there own and thats it

You will find an Irish bar in most cities, this is correct - they are there to cater for tourists - not sure if you will find Irish staff behind the bar :)

Who said the English dont like the Polish, they have been living side by side for over 50 years.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

I think given half the chance the Polish would like to intergrate more,

I think personally that the English are a tolerant lot, but are becoming more protective over their country, its hard to walk down the road and every other shop you see is a kabab shop or a indian takeaway or and then a new wave of immigrants come over and now Polish shops are popping up (ironically so there is one next to my fav jewish delli :) ) and then there is Polish nights in bars and clubs, hmmm thats not intergrating that's as a friend of mine (who's Polish) said is - "creating a little Poland" so you see divides will deepen because of some of what the media say and because Polish people are creating a little peice of home here in the UK...Just same as you have areas that are predominently asian, you will have areas that are predominently Polish...

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

Most of Europe was greedy Jarek, we were not the only ones - the French and Dutch did quite nicely too :)

marrying for papers is not good because marriage is a loving relationship that should last.

how about marrying a cousin that you have never met who lives in a different country and has been brought up on a different culture?

Language / Any useful words to tell kids to behave? [19]

Hmmm, its always a difficult one, I had a very good friend (frends for nearly 30 years) and her son is the spawn of the devil - but in her eyes he is an angel!!! I just used to give him "that look" and he stayed away :)

News / Polish "brainbox" comes back to Poland from the UK for a better education [77]

well i think it's a matter of the edjucation system in the uk is absolutly awfull, it does not push children to strive for a better education, i was a very bright child and ahead of my class but because i excelled at sport i was pushed towards that and it did not matter to my teachers whether i was working to my potential but as long as i did some work and the level of this work was not really important to them.

Sorry buddy, but you obviously didnt push yourself, dont blame your shortcomings on other people.

I have several friends who are teachers and the problem in a lot of schools these days (im gonna get jumped on for this) is the fact the (in some cases) over half of the pupils in the class dont speak English - hmmmm dont take an expert to work out that its going to affect the other half of the class if they're not getting the time that they should be given by the teacher - and then there's the money aspect - classes are over crowded because we dont have the infrastructure in place in this country to cope with the influx of (not only Polish) immigrants....so you see as a result our education system is failing, I personally dont give a flying monkey about the foreign kids, I care about my nephews and nieces who are being affected by this.

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

TO Shelleys.

Well, like I alway say, if India and Pakistan are such wonderful countries, why do people risk their lives in crowded boats to get into the UK illegally and why go back to the "home land" for a wife / husband.

Hmm next you will be telling me that everyone has an education and live in a house with electricity and hot and cold running water!.

My thinking is quite broad thats why I know that poverty is rife in both of these countries and that they are corrupt and pretty dangerous places live....

UK, Ireland / Views of Poles in UK on Bulgarians/Romanians coming here? [62]

Lukasz has actually a good point there.

All nations have criminals but the statistics you linked to are deceiving. They show total numbers of crimes committed by nationals of various countries, but they fail to translate those numbers into per capita figures.

Let's use Home Office official data (URL, page 11) to complement those cited by you and let's compare Lithuanians, Poles and Romanians

Poles:
62% of immigrants , 2310 crimes , 37 crimes per 1%

Lithuanians
12% of immigrants, 856 crimes, 71 crimes per 1%

Romanians
less than 0.5% of immigrants, 1087 crimes, 2174 per 1%

Do you still think Poles are really the worst offenders among the immigrant in the UK?

I actually give up, because it would seem that its okay for Poles to committ crime in the UK because there are more of them than any others from Eastern Europe.. Has anyone got the stats on how many British people living in Poland committ crimes there :)

All I was doing was merely making a point and Doggie I hope you are not trying to say I'm anti Polish?

this one is for you doggie, you wanted to know who was committing the crimes :)

Lukasz

so do you agree with the above links? If so how would you feel if the UK brought about such a law - because recent figures showed that 1 in 5 crimes commited in London were committed by Polish people, which you have to agree is quite a high proportion.

Love / My girlfriend thinks she's pregnant! Pomocy!! [75]

On that group every woman is devastated. There is one woman who regrets her abortion so much that she cuts herself with a knife

I think there must have been more deep rooted problems, I have friends have had abortions and not been affected at all by it...I dont think its something to be taken lightly but the choice is there.

Love / My Stupid Friend [40]

Well my two of my best friends are male they have both stayed over at my house and stayed on the sofa (one did have an intrest in me but I told him no chance, the other is gay!) - I personally think that people should be able to chose who their friends are regardless of sex - trust is a big issue here! I worked in engineering for quite a few years and a lot of my good friends were male and my b/f at the time didnt have an issue with this....may be nauczyciel does have an interest in this woman or maybe he is just a really good friend, its not for us to judge...

UK, Ireland / London's Polish community...thinking about the Metropolitan Police. [15]

or you could just make a little effort to understand and respect the laws of the country which you live in... like other people

here here!

is that the way british people behave in greece and spain.. respecting their laws.. thanks we can learn so much from the british..

Yes and those causing trouble get fined very heavily so its a win win situation for the police and the country, in the UK it costs the tax payer to send them to court and then it costs the tax payer again to keep them in prison.....any none national should be kicked out and made to serve in prison in their own country! or maybe we should take the stance of the Spanish, Italian and Greek police and fine none nationals very heavily and then send them home!

Why on earth would be want a Polish speaking police force?????

UK, Ireland / Polish tramp dies in Wolverhampton. [17]

Wolverhampton, is looking at maybe renaming the place he lived after him. Or having some kind of memorial. Which I think is a touching tribute.

but he shouldnt have had to live and die like that in the first place, shame people didnt care more about him when he was alive!
