UK, Ireland / What is in Poland that England doesn't have? [142]

Bartolome, the URL is not working...and no one is talking about getting rid of them, I am just saying that it's hardly a barometer of a richer society as you see less and less of them on the roads today.

Fixed :) Just a wee joke.
I would say that it's a barometer of a society _getting_ richer. Steady, but consistently.

You should carry on of these around with you

A car was good remedy for that.

Bart, you live in Glasgow, that's not even a good representaion of Scotland, never mind the rest of UK

Perhaps you're right, but big cities are very likely to host such patterns of behaviour. I visited London this summer and since I was using public transport I had the dubious opportunity to observe similar groups of youths.

I thought they stopped building Maluchs in 2000

Yes, they did, but it doesn't mean that people would get rid of them instantly.

UK, Ireland / How long before a newly arrived Pole can buy something on credit ? [24]

Anyway, tell him to pick up Autotrader (for free) at any petrol station and I'm sure he'll be able to find some dirt cheap corsa or micra.

You must also know that insurance companies here are very likely to rob you blind if you don't have a British driving licence (no matter how long have you had your national licence) and/or no-claim account. Therefore shopping around is essential (internet is full of offers though). Also he may have trouble with insuring car that is over 15 years old.

They've got Disco angolo instead. Just go upstairs on any double-decker out here where tracksuit-clad sh!theads play it with their fancy-schmancy wee effin' mobiles. I'm just so glad I've got a car and don't have to suffer this scum.

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

Well, you should no apologise - I'm a Polish in the UK and I never apologise for bad behaviour of my compatriots here (e.g. Boruc's antics) - they're not ME, they're THEM.

UK, Ireland / Integrating Polish people into the British society [150]

All well, but 'human rights' campaigners and illegals' lobbies won't allow it to happen. PC status quo has to be maintained after all. And now British taxpayers have to bail out banks that go bust due to the recession. As always, the rich will remain rich, and the poor will become even more poor.

UK, Ireland / First UK ID Card Design Launched [16]

I don't mind having an ID, however...

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is investigating the theft of computer files with the records of thousands of serving and former RAF staff on.

Life / Internet cowboys in Poland - Internet Providers [15]

To which i was told, we are the only people who can provide internet in that block, we have an agreement with the administrators, so you cannot change provider.

I think it may be some BS given to you in hope that you're an ignorant.
There are wireless options by telecoms, have you checked their offers ?

Life / Are Polish traditions dissapearing [93]

If witnessed in Silesia it may have been brought there by Lemkos in exile. I have heard a Lemko wedding celebration described by a person who has taken part in many of them and this event is on Day 1 of a 3-day celebration. There is a lot of singing involved, and a full day of fun.

I don't think so. The name suggests it's from the times when Silesia was one of parts of the Reich.

Life / Are Polish traditions dissapearing [93]

Can you name any Polish non-religious holiday tradition?

Polter Abend - in Silesia (perhaps not entirely Polish one, but practised in Poland anyway)
It's a crazy party a day before a wedding - men dress like wenches and women like lads. Not only the young ones, mind you.

Sorry G, but I would be inclined to go for one of these:

Unfortunately, The Little Mole is a Czech production.

The Greek coin is cool. But they stole the design from ancient Greeks.
