News / Sending money to Poland [32]

In the US you can send money through mail, but it's not a smart idea because it can get stolen or could get lost. If you do want to send it through mail, make sure it's registered and insured, that way if the person in Poland doesn't get it, you will get a refund.( I know this because I'm a Postal Worker)

Western Union works and so do bank transfers.

Life / The Change in the Role of Women in the Polish Society [32]

Everybody is different and nobody is perfect.
Many times you have to compromise. Talk it over because time goes by fast. You never know what tomorrow will bring, you might have an accident and your whole life changes. Do not take life for granted. If you love each other, you must nurture that relationship, it's the most important thing in the world. Talk it over, realize that that nobody is perfect and try to undertsand each other. It might take some time for her to get used to your wild side, but love will conquer all. Give it time, patience and understanding. You are still young and you are you, she is her.

Things always work out at the end.

Life / Poles love to send SMS [47]

But it's more fun getting sms's than just calling. Life can get boring and depressing sometimes, and you have to make it fun.

Study / Has any of you (foreigners) studied Polish for a year? [11]

I think it is worth your time to study Polish. If you are there studying, it's always a plus to know Polish. You never know when you'll need it. Maybe you'll meet a nice Polish girl someday? besides, I just heard that people should learn new languages and keep their brain working to fight against Alzheimer's Disease.

As far as the tuition goes, you should ask at the school where you are attending, as they will know the best.

Life / Poles love to send SMS [47]

I often send sms to Poland. I like it because sometimes you just want to say something to that other person and he might be busy at the time, and might not answer anyway. But you just wanted to say a few words and the other person has the option to look at the sms whenever they feel like it. It's like leaving a message on an answering machine, but in written form. And it is cheaper than calling all the time.

Life / Black American Living In Poland [283]

Wrocław. That's where our friend "Wrocław" is from. He's around here somewhere and he would know what's going on in his city. I was visiting Poland last month and I saw several interracial couples. Mostly black guys with white women and nobody was staring at them. The black guys behaved very cultural and polite and they seemed well accepted within the Polish community. As long as nobody causes trouble, Poland is slowly getting used to people with different color skin. Black people are not as common in Poland as in America but like glowa said, Poland is learning to accept diversity.

You'll be fine.

Life / Halloween in Poland? [77]

We all know that Valentines has become very popular in Poland. But is Haloween next?
In the US kids get dressed up and go "trick-or-treating" from door to door. There are also many contests for best costumes. Here's one of them:

Life / Wedding in Poland - my experience [39]

Never been to a Polish wedding in Poland, but have been to some in Chicago. They were excellent. The food, music, dances. And even though there were all Polish people there, they did not smoke inside the hall but outside. And there weren't that many who did smoke because many Poles who come to America work very hard and want to save their money so they quit smoking because it's too expensive.

Life / How many people really know English in Poland? [53]

I don't know the percentage, but people do speak English in Poland. There are always courses offered and it is taught in grade schools. I would say about 50%. The older people most likely don't know it. But English is very popular in Poland and many people want to learn it. Some are more advanced than others.

You can learn some Polish online.byki.com offers some free downloads. it might be a good start.
Look at plg here in this forum. He is learning Polish and always asks questions why this and why that. That's one guy who is dedicated on learning the Polish language.

Love / Polish interracial dating [333]

But Kozioł is right about one thing. Many blacks are looking for white women!!! At the University I went to, all the black guys were eyeing me up. When I walk around a black neighborhood in Chicago or Florida all the black guys are looking at me!!!!

So what Kozioł says is true about them looking at white women, because I have seen it with my own eyes.

News / Polish addresses [10]

The 9/13 is when a person lives in building nr9 apartment 13. sometimes it's written "9 m. 13". The "m" stands for mieszkania, which means apartment or home.

01-213 is the area code of that town. A small towm would have one area code, but a large town such as Warsaw has many different codes depending on the district.

News / Polish addresses [10]

Example:
Name: Krystyna Bolo
Street: Ul. Kurza £apa 9/13
City: 01-213 Jajawice

Poland doesn't have states. They have districts (Powiat). Sometimes it can be written in the address as well

Love / Polish interracial dating [333]

I know that's what you meant.
My best friend is half philippino and half American. Her kids are so cute, her daughter was a runner-up for miss Wisconsin. Can't wait to see your daughter! I bet that will be a surprise because she will look half like you or him, or maybe all like you!!

That's really exciting.

Love / What kind of girls do Polish men like, and why? [30]

Hmmmm interesting.
In America a lot of people fuse together the engagement and wedding ring so they become one huge ring and continue wearing it on the same finger, left hand.

Love / What kind of girls do Polish men like, and why? [30]

Do women wear both their wedding ring and band on the right hand together? Because I saw in a movie that a woman had her wedding ring on left hand, and band on the other. Not together like in th US.

Just wondering.
