Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

You can't smoke in bus shelters.

They are raising the price of ciggies in increments until they reach a certain level. In other words they are trying to stop people from smoking by making ciggies too expensive. My L&M Lights have just gone up to 6.40 from 5.85

Love / Polish attitude towards sex [194]

There was a survey among teenage Russian girls a few years back. 90% aspired to be an Escort.

And in any other survey I imagine 90% aspired to be pop-stars. A year or two later reality kicks in.

I didn't say it was expensive. It's just an option. Mind you, I've only heard of one person doing it in Wroclaw.

Love / Polish attitude towards sex [194]

Escorts in Russia are among the elite, they make more on average than any other women.

Those at the top end are in a special group. I'm sure many of them can actually get through an evening/night without ever providing sex.

For the others. I stand by my comment

Love / Polish attitude towards sex [194]

Many girls in Ukraine would like to travel to Europe and do some prostitution, they see it as a way to luxury and quick, easy money.

Only those who have conditioned themselves into believing that what they are doing is right. When there is only one way out you look for a way to justify it.

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

David,

I have to agree that there is a lot of building going on in the nearby countryside. For me, it seems that small villages are getting bigger rather than building companies starting anew on a fresh plot of land.

I just wonder what foreign investors have in store for us. I also wonder If they understand the culture and tradition of countryside living. A beautiful English country scene won't work in Poland. It also worries me that people with money might try and buy up small villages, which will displace the local population. I see problems ahead for both sides and it will take good legislation to keep everyone happy.

Life / New English Language Magazine for expats in Poland? [24]

Do you guys thinks there is any need for it given there are all these expats forums?

It seems that most expats have a Polish partner, so for that reason I wouldn't bother.

I was thinking of a more low key affair

Are there enough expats to make a low key affair worthwhile ?

You would also have to take some of the Warsaw Voice, Poland Monthly and WBJ market.

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

there are probably not many options available to them.

True. But farmland is for farming, so don't expect to build a housing estate on the land.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

The fact is that many people in the building game are not qualified. It's learn as you go. But there comes a time when you get found out.

I only have to solve the mystery of why numeric/calculator pads are inverted compared to phone pads

I probably would have gone through my whole life not noticing this. Now I want to know the answer too.

Real Estate / Buying new buildings in Poland and price I was given [42]

You guys will have to wait until it is possible to buy houses in the countryside. That is, when there are less restrictions. If you get in quick you'll make your money, but it will be a different type of investment. Renovation and resale.

Why are you guys buying and then renting flats to students, who have no money.

I would of thought that you'd be better off renting high class accomodation to companies.

Life / Light switches in Poland versus Western Europe [14]

Why do light switches in Poland/Central Europe go the opposite direction to switches in western e

As I have been fitting some this week I can tell you that they are no different. You can install them either way up.

Electric light comes from England, but I have no idea if Swan invented the switch when he invented the bulb.

Genealogy / Family Pictures of loved ones in Poland [21]

Pictures would serve a practical purpose. It might be possible to put dates to pictures and pick out landmarks. For example: 1. It might mean the difference between searching in Poland or an adjoining country. 2. Style of dress can give you a date.

There are many things that you can learn from photos. They are an essential tool in Genealogy and might help to bring experts [in various fields] to the forum. They also help to understand the social history of the period.

History / Polish movies about Poland's role during WWII [20]

The box set has English subtitles.

What about 'Kloss'.

Hans Kloss and his Second World War daring-do.

All these shows might be for fun, but they do teach something.

Now, someone tell me what the programme is really called, please.
