News / What are your 10 fave things about Poland? And 10 least favourite? [130]

Good things:
1. The food. Breads, cakes, desserts. Polish people are excellent cooks.
2. Scenery. Beautiful countryside, but too populated.
3. Good transit systems.
4. Flower shops everywhere.
5. Architecture. Castles and churches full of history.

Pissing in Poland. Hahahahaha!!!
If they didn't charge for using the tiolets, maybe they wouldn't piss so much all over!
I've seen guys in Poland go in the bushes or behind a building. I don't know what they do there....?
In the US, when you travel, there are rest stops, gas stations, restaurants, stores with free toilets.
In Poland there are the woods!!!!! Often you see pieces of sand-paper toilet paper floating around in the woods and when you go mushroom picking, you have to watch what you're stepping on!!!

Love / Rules for dating Polish girls [189]

Hahaha.. I like your perceptions Arrgghh! Generally that's how Polish men are viewed.
My sister lives in Boston and she knows a Polish guy who came from Poland a year ago, and he was telling her that he has to find himself a wife because he's tired of eating from cans and needs a wife to cook for him and clean. But the Polish woman was born and raised in a society where it's common for a woman to stay home and do housework and for a man to earn money.

In the USA women want to be equal to men and work outside the home, many times because they have to, to pay for all the bills, so the man has to cook and clean house and take care of the kids too. Not that they all do either. They come home from work, drink beer, read the paper or watch football, while the wife takes care of the kids, cooks dinner, cleans house all after a whole day at work.

Food / Green Fish Soup [4]

I'll be making it too, although the recipe I found was in Polish and for the peas they said "two handfulls" so two cups of peas might be a little too much, because some people have smaller handfulls than others.

I thought that was funny.

Life / How do Polish view others [116]

What do you like about France the most?
I've only been there as a little child, and a few years ago at the airport in Paris. I love their bakery. "Pain au chocolate"

Hmmm...France. Maybe I'll make that my next destination...

Food / Green Fish Soup [4]

I found this recipe:

Green Fish Soup
2 big filets of fish
4 small potatoes or macaroni
1/2 head broccoli
1 small green pepper
2 cups of frozen peas
1 big onion
2 glasses of milk
2 teaspoons of olive oil
2 teaspoons of chopped parsley
salt, pepper

Place whole fish in pot, add potatoes- pealed and diced and diced broccoli and pepper. Add peas, finely chopped onion and olive oil. Add enough water to cover the ingredients, add salt and pepper to taste. Boil about 20-25 minutes. When done, remove from stove and add milk and mix. Before serving add parsley. You can also add maggi.

This one is for Shelley....maybe it's the one she was looking for...?

Australia / Looking for some direction regarding Polish men in Australia [7]

Yes, Polish guys are shy.
They respect the woman more and appreciate what she does. In the US, women want to be equal to men, they don't like when a guy opens a door for them, etc., they are feminists, and American guys treat them with less respect than Polish guys.

These are just my observations. I'm sure there will be other opinions.
Just got done going through a very nasty divorce, American Court systems give equal rights to men, who could care less about children, but don't want to pay child support. In Poland they will give the mother the children, and Polish men respect the women more, therefore, that makes them more shy around them.

Language / Good sites, books, CDs to learn Polish? [8]

The Spanish "r" for example is the same as in Polish, while in English many POlish people can't pronounce the"r" properly.

But Spanish is the way to go in the US. Many things that you buy have instructions both in English and in Spanish.
Many Mexicans along the South Borders of the US. There is a need for for Spanish translators.
Yes, Spanish is very popular. I know a few words. I watch Dora the Explorer.

Kołaczki

Bake at 350 for 10 to 15 minutes or until slightly browned on edges. makes about 3 1/2 dozen.

Life / Old Polish Song~ Possibly children's [36]

Not many. I was forced to learn Russian in Poland since 5th grade. Then in high school in Poland we had to learn another language - French. But I already knew English and Polish since I was born. And now I'm learning Swedish.

I'm trying to catch up with my father. He knew 7 languages. He even wrote a book about Esperanto-an international language.

I'm learning Swedish. I really like it. It's easy to learn and fun.
My 5-year old daughter is listening on me and she's starting to speak a third language now.

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

There's a difference between visiting parents and living with them. I lived 30 miles away from my mom. Didn't see her for days and it was cool, I could go and do whatever I want, had my own house, cleaned it and decorated the way I wanted to and a person feels in control. But living with mother after that is harder. She's always asking or telling me what to do.She feels bad if I don't tell her where I'm going, etc. And she doesn't like it when I'm on the computer either!

I guess she's just being a mother.

Life / Wonderful Poland.......but the attitude of Polish people [150]

There were many concentration camps through out Poland, horrible experiments performed on people, millions of people died. Poland can't forget those easily. They are a proud nation, they are proud of who they are, they bravely fought during the war and maybe they don't trust foreigners too much yet?

WOW! You know about trees too!
We also had white pines with long, soft needles, but they loose their needles very fast.

Life / The Christmas Tree in Poland [25]

I used to sell christmas trees. I owned a christmas tree farm and sheared them in the spring, re-planted the cut ones, etc. Lot of tree growers in Wisconsin. There were blue-spruce, white spruce and balsam firs. They smell the best.

Food / Vegetarian food in Poland? [83]

Where in Warsaw do you live? I lived in Żolibórz.
Many bazars all over. Good home-grown vegetables, very tasty, smell good. In the US too many are genetically modified and artificially fertilized.
