Genealogy / Osiek near Oswiecim records, go to Krakow or Witkowice archives? Confusion on archives in Poland [7]

The LDS office was most helpful. If you have one locally, I would suggest you try them, if you haven't already done that.. I also suggest you try to find a website for the archdiocese nearest your town.

Well, I have an abundance of things I want to get, mainly before 1808.
I have records for 1808 and up, alot in Russian.. btw, anyone who knows Russian
I need you :) lol

anyway, wanted to try and get some nobility records, to which this stuff was
more then likely lost.

or if it exist, then, probably would have to go thru alot of records to find the names.
well cant say that really, because maybe they do have a way of getting it without
all the searching. P

USA, Canada / How 9 11 affected me as a Pole. [12]

I was born here

so, why did they do that, did you ever find out?

I also had to send in a paper, our family was here before the first world war.
were pretty much established. but of course, another brilliant idea.

I am sure it didnt pin point any terrorists while making this law.

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

MY mother was the best, no matter what. if we argued it was because she cared!

two women under the same roof do clash. because they want things their way.
has nothing to do with polish, had to do with beliefs. her generation did not go out
on saturdays to a bar, they went to the movies and came home early.

I was still young, and wanted to get out. she had every right to yell when it was under
her roof. because I find myself now thinking that way. I dont want to see my children
get hurt no matter where they go.

Parenting doesnt come with a book that says how to.

saint in comparison

all moms are saints!

Whole milk has more of those hormones than 2%.

Life / Poles need to learn to save! [73]

well, it could be a number of things which cause this, but I was questioning the
steroids they give the cows, people drink this stuff. its really disgusting. I went
and took a gallon back, because we opened it and it had this awful vitamin smell
to it. more then likely something added, to much of, or steroids.

Progress sucks when it involves harm to humanity.

my youngest loves carrots, I was surprised. but she eats emm raw, and now is
drinking orange juice daily, cant get enough of it, before i couldnt get her to
drink anything else but skim milk.

now she is on a juice kick- no complaints here. :)

I find it funny in America that obese women drink diet sodas and skinny ones drink the regular stuff

we all find it funny to. diet drinks are the worst!
read up on a article: says the aspartame causes phemeldahide <~cant spell lol
to create in your body-which is used to preserve dead bodies.

gross! just gross.

Life / Poles need to learn to save! [73]

Not saying that everyone would need to change, we did for our daughter.

her life was more important. she almost died at age 1 year.

I brought her into the hospital comatose, and with a sugar of 8
that is non-existant. we were sent to another hospital which deals with
larger issues that are more critical. and they discovered her liver was marbleized
and the enzymes were in the thousands. she was not eating huge amounts
of regular food, she was on baby food. and I would mash reg potato's.

But, the formula contained carnitine which is essential in breaking down fats and
carrying toxins thru the liver.

so when I switched to Milk (whole) which was only six days after the formula, she
became ill with a viral infection,,and the underlying played significant role ,hand in
hand so to speak with the obvious.

for a while they could only treat the obvious, because not enough was known
about the underlying. it was very frustrating.

I decided (prior to) a real Dx that she needed vitamins daily (told this would not stop
it) and also when in crisis to go strictly to low fats.
or no fats.

four years later , they decided to give me this vital information. one which I
had already honed in on from age 2. as we had to many hospital stays for it
to keep happening.

and as her mother and advocate, i had to learn my and know my Sh_t in order to
keep her healthy and alive as many children who have this do not make it.
her Dx is # 15 in the world that is how rare. not many children are dx at birth.
and it mimicks Sids.

For me...I can eat anything as long as it's in moderation. I excersize everyday..eat butter drink whole milk etc. people have been living on these fattening things for years why stop now? I do keep clear of the fast food, but might eat things that are just as fattening.

Not saying you would be wrong fisz, you do nothing wrong oh virtual hubby of mine
theres a certain someone who is feeling a bit cagey today.

Life / Poles need to learn to save! [73]

If you take it in ...and burn it off...no probs.......fatty foods were highly prized when we all scraped about for our food.......but now......we don't.......

Well, it was a reality check, as I can say, yes, I am guilty of loving Mcdonalds, now it
make me ill, Now they have some healthier choices, Grilled chicken salad, I am sure
there is "fat content" in it, but the choice of Chicken salad Vs a large big mac with
the cheese, dressing and all that fried garbage on it.

MY daughter has Metabolic Disorder, so she cant metabolize fats period.
she lives off carbs.
she also has hypoglycemia during viral infections and it can present itself during
normal activity as well.

our changing was for the better. even though I grew up with home cooked meals that
had more fat content in them. that was still much better then fast food.

Now when I shop, it takes me quite a few hours, as I check labels.
dont want to overload on the salt either. Blood pressure :)

Yes agreed, home cooked meals are better /We had to change our diets to work
with my youngest diet Low fat, because she has to have it, we do it also.

I cant even drink whole milk anymore, because its to thick (fat content)
and I saw on it was either oprah, or one of the talk shows, where this guy
measured the amount of fat using butter sticks with the amount of fat you drink
from whole milk and the sticks of butter were piled up from the ground to the height
of the guy explaining this. scarey.

Life / Poland and health care - Drs take "gifts" [3]

Well to this point I can understand, because pay is so low. Drs in America do get
way overpaid, and sometimes overpay themselves by cheatin insurance companies
but! they do get caught eventually.

That is a good thing, weeds out the bad ones who try and use social security
numbers of living and dead people.

There was a dentist, well respected, overwhelming patients. he had two offices
and advertised on tv here in our local area. then, we see a big write up in the paper
how he was laundering monies from insurance companies, making up names, and
collecting the cash. it was shocking.

you just dont know who you can trust now a days.

I think people are still treated whether they have 'extra' to give or not, but a 'lapowka' gets you a better place in the queue, or ocassionally, more personal attention etc.

Whew! had me extremely worried. as our cousins live in poland, of course, not as well
off . but managing, we send money, try to help. but I dont think the extended family
really truely knows how difficult it is for them.

so this is actually a learning experience, which i will share with all family here.
we are lucky to have what we have. things get taken for granted.

Life / Poland and health care - Drs take "gifts" [3]

Today Folks I was at work and met up with two nice sweet ladies from Albania and
from Romania. we got on the discussion of health care in Poland, and I brought up
the fact that Drs take "gifts" as well as getting paid. to which they commented
yes its true, and this is not only in poland but all over , in their countries too.

Now working in the health care field, it angers me to know that someone would take
money or not take care of this patient because they couldnt pay this dr for his service
which makes no sense to me because i never experienced it.

but, the other half of me , now realizes that the pay is also much less then what
a dr in the states would get.
I always wondered why we have so many foriegn drs on board over here. now I
know why.
Besa- albanian, explained to me that, here in the states, if someone were to get
a operation for say a hernia, costing $10,000 the amount in say Poland would only
be $300.00 for such a operation.

so pay is quite a difference. but, she also said, if you didnt have the money and needed
medical care, that pretty much you would die!

Please someone tell me this isnt true.

this topic bothers me alot. because I am in the health care field, and by standards
of practice, this would be exceptionally wrong /morally wrong.

my only hope is if there is truth to this, someone takes a bite out of crime, because
to me this is a crime to let someone die because of no health insurance. or no money.

at our hospital, if someone comes in with no money, no insurance, no nothing.
they get the same care as any other patient who has coverage.
the hospital eats the cost, but I am pretty sure its a write off for them.

anyone care to comment?

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

Krysia, when I moved out from my moms, she wanted me to come back and send
my brothers on their way, both were getting on her nerves, although we had
alot in common and got along most of the time, there was alot of things she didnt
approve of because it wasnt like that when she was young.

I find myself saying this to my own kids. i just hope I can keep our relationship strong
like it was with my mom. I frustrated her as much as she did me. but I think the love
outweighed any arguments we had.

your are right, it is her home, but, she too has to remember you are now adult
and have your own feelings, different views. and your not a child, although you are
still her child.

That was what came up with me and my mom, she always referred to me as the baby
her baby, yes I was the younger child, but when something went wrong, it was me
that everyone called. even my older sister.
talking about it, is better then avoiding it. even though I know where your coming
from, I remember my mom asking me why I dont come to her for advice or help.
she was right.

my husband is getting same response, his grandfather, who raised him, says now
why dont he come to me for advice? or anything else. he even asked me that.
I had no reason, only that I conditioned my self to be independent so I just do it all
my self. "survival"

but, his grandfather is up in age, and might not be here much longer, I point this out
to him, cause there will be a time when he wont be able to talk to him.

that is why I say that. yes, life is short.

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

I am not sterotyping, in general, when two women live under the same roof
its difficult, and Krysia is right, the generation gap, I had same problem as far
as having my own life while under my moms roof. she expected more from me
and we did fight , same as Krysia and her mom.

my brothers didnt get it as much as I did, although they did. but our heads
collided because I wanted to do things one way, and she another.

never said my mother wasnt great, no matter how much we fought, I loved her
with every ounce and wouldnt trade her for the world.
still miss her, and wish we could bump heads, hug, hold hands, talk , I could go on.

agree, he is looking for cheap help, that has to look a certain way. so if the customers
focus on the person waiting on them, the food must be god awful so they forget what
it tastes like. lol

but that is wrong to ask on a forum , any businessman who needs help can have
people apply to his business, and advertise in a regular news paper.

its called Help wanted ads Wine bar<~duh

It was sarcasm what I mean is`that Americans are famous for eating rubbish food and not knowing anything about the world outside the US.

NO I dont eat monkey brains if that is what you mean, so exposer to that would
make me puke!

I dont eat bugs , or prefer them in chocolate like they do in some other countries
and really dont care how much protein they have, If I had to eat them, I would only
if I was starving in a jungle. but dont find them a delicacy in no way because they
are part of a smaller food chain. and someone got mixed up on that when they
made the food chain! lol

some of the things eaten in other countries dont appeal to me, I agree on the garbage
food, pure veggies, fruit, meat starch, basically what is needed. and FYI Chinese is not
as healthy as you think , they cook with lots of grease , rice by itself is good, but the
other stuff is made in a vat of grease as well and was dubbed "not good for you"
and up there with MCDonalds.

News / American Interests in Poland [6]

well, I was looking at the easy side of it, mine were found the day I requested.
but i had town names , excact spellings, and birth dates for siblings.

I believe it could come into some long dragged out process. but at the same time
one record had me twistedly happy! I am sure the same would go for many
Polish-Americans/American Poles.

RIght now, where i see Majority of problems is the getting to Poland records.
they get all the info here gathered, but it stops. so of course Planning trips to
Poland are in the making once they establish where they came from or originated.
but , Many cannot take time from work, busy schedules, etc. to make trips and
many have said , I have visited, but didnt get a chance to look for records as they
made the trips with tourist groups and this was not part of the ciriculum.

Ive not had trouble with the records with town names. MY Problems are with early
records from 1700 to abt 1790 or so.
the only other problems is Archives and finding the correct one for the correct
locations.

I dont think I would advertise tracing that far back, we all know it would be
impossible , but there is some to be found. War and a number of things has
made it virtually impossible for some.

but, least a glitter of hope, and something to help out in area of education for
Poland.

reason I say that is, I have come across many possible family members who didnt
know their history, and found it to connect with mine. it was equally rewarding
for us both.

:) just a suggestion. Patrycja

News / American Interests in Poland [6]

What Interests American, Irish, British, etc about poland?
the Culture? the history? Other?

For me its a great deal of things. mostly the history, I am 3rd Generation so
it was unfortunate that I wasnt taught the culture, even though it was very
much a part of our familys life when my Grandmother was alive, when she died
it died along with her.

should have refrased the title to international Interests in Poland.

well you all get the point anyway :)

awww geese at least one post would do :) lol

I know American interest is growing. alot in the history , there are some
difficulties with families connecting with their roots. I seen Promise in this area
but not only with Poland, all over europe. ancestry is growing here, many have
discussed problems with finding their families in Poland, but not so much other
areas.

MY thoughts on this was that Students who are working their way thru college should
take up this task, charge a reasonable fee, and get the information that is needed.
it would not only help these college students, but the person who is looking and
cant make the trip to poland.

but there would have to be a base in each area. because of travel reasons.
man I dont even live there, but I have it all figured out!!

lol.
ps. I would be American base.
anyone care to share thoughts on this? bad Idea?? yes/ no

Ps. off to work. Have great day.
